Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced that the Joint Public Action Committee has responded positively to his proposal for establishing a Reconciliation Commission to help resolve the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He said the committee’s response included several recommendations that would be carefully reviewed as part of the consultation process.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Bilawal said he had received the committee’s formal reply regarding the proposed commission. According to him, the response reflects a willingness to consider an institutional mechanism that could help address the current situation through dialogue and consensus.

Bilawal emphasized that his immediate priority is to help bring the ongoing crisis to an end, provide urgent relief to affected citizens, and restore normal life across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He described every loss of life as a national tragedy and stressed the importance of finding a peaceful and sustainable solution through constructive engagement.

The PPP chairman welcomed the committee’s readiness to move forward with the proposed Reconciliation Commission, saying it represents a positive step toward resolving outstanding issues. He added that the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has also endorsed the proposal, which he intends to examine in detail before further consultations.

Bilawal said the next phase of the process would involve discussions with the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Following these consultations, the AJK leadership is expected to seek initial feedback from the federal government and other relevant stakeholders to determine whether there is sufficient common ground to advance a mutually agreed framework.

According to Bilawal, broad-based consultation among all stakeholders is essential to ensure that any solution enjoys public confidence and contributes to lasting stability. He expressed hope that the proposed commission could provide a structured platform for dialogue while addressing the concerns of all parties involved.

The development comes at a time when efforts are underway to reduce tensions in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and restore normal public life. Bilawal reiterated that meaningful dialogue, cooperation, and timely relief for affected communities remain central to his approach. He expressed optimism that continued engagement between the committee, the AJK government, and federal authorities could pave the way for a consensus-based resolution to the crisis.

    Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of eight mountaineers following the devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, while the search continues for two missing climbers. The Alpine Club president said that during the latest phase of the operation, the bodies of four Nepalese climbers and one Chinese mountaineer were successfully recovered and transported from the mountain. He added that rescuers have also identified another climber’s body. However, it is located in an inaccessible area, making immediate recovery impossible because of dangerous terrain and the continued risk of avalanches. Search teams are still looking for the remaining two missing climbers. Rescue officials said every effort is being made to locate them despite severe weather, snow-covered slopes and difficult mountain conditions. The tragedy has shocked Pakistan’s mountaineering community and highlighted the dangers faced by climbers attempting to scale some of the world’s highest peaks. Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram mountain range, is one of Pakistan’s tallest mountains and attracts climbers from around the world each year.

    ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.15% during the latest week, taking the overall annual inflation rate to 9.11%, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The statistics agency issued its weekly inflation report, showing mixed price trends for essential commodities. According to the report, prices of 20 essential items increased during the week, while nine items became cheaper. Prices of 22 commodities remained unchanged. Onion recorded the sharpest increase, with its price rising by 24.68% in one week. The price of gram lentils also increased by 3.35%. Chicken became 2.45% more expensive during the week. Prices of several other household essentials, including yogurt, garlic and tea, also recorded increases. The report showed that some major commodities became cheaper. Tomato prices declined by 1.26% during the week. Petroleum prices also decreased. Petrol became 2.35% cheaper, while diesel prices fell by 0.29%. The prices of sugar, eggs and potatoes also recorded declines during the week. The latest figures indicate continued fluctuations in the prices of essential commodities. While several food items became more expensive, reductions in petroleum prices and some food products provided some relief to consumers. The weekly inflation figures are closely monitored as they reflect short-term changes in the prices of goods commonly purchased by households. The annual inflation rate, meanwhile, provides a broader picture of price increases across the economy.
