BJP lawmaker alleges son-in-law married 25 women

An Indian politician has accused his son-in-law of fraud after allegedly discovering that the man had married around 25 women using different identities.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Gyan Tiwari, who represents the Sevata constituency in Uttar Pradesh, filed a complaint against his son-in-law’s family. He alleged that his daughter was deceived into marrying a man who had concealed his alleged criminal background and previous relationships.

According to the complaint, Tiwari’s daughter Pragya married Prakhar Trivedi in 2024. Prakhar is the son of Anuj Trivedi, a resident of Chandrawal.

Tiwari alleged that Anuj presented himself during the marriage arrangements as a well-known real estate businessman based in Mumbai. He claimed that the family had also received positive information about the prospective groom from local sources and influential people before approving the marriage.

However, the lawmaker said his family later learned about Prakhar’s alleged activities through social media and other sources.

Tiwari alleged that Prakhar had used fake identities to establish relationships with women in different Indian states, particularly Maharashtra. He further accused him of allegedly obtaining large sums of money from several women.

The politician claimed that Prakhar had entered into around 25 marriages. The allegations have not been independently established.

Tiwari said the revelations caused severe emotional distress to his family. He also said that the incident affected his reputation as a public representative.

Following the allegations, Tiwari said he had severed social and personal ties with the accused family and brought his daughter back home.

Police said a case had been registered following Tiwari’s complaint at the Reusa police station. Anuj Trivedi and his son Prakhar Trivedi have reportedly been arrested as the investigation continues.

Authorities are now investigating the allegations of fraud, the alleged use of multiple identities and the claims involving several marriages.

Kuwait keeps bottled water purchase limit to prevent panic buying

Kuwait’s Ministry of Social Affairs has confirmed that restrictions on bottled water purchases will remain in place as part of efforts to discourage panic buying and ensure supplies remain available for everyone. Under the current rules, shoppers can buy no more than five cartons of bottled water per invoice at central markets and cooperative society branches across the country. The ministry said all cooperative societies are required to enforce the purchase limit without exception. Officials have instructed the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies to make sure every branch follows the directive and prevents customers from making unusually large purchases. Authorities believe the measure will help stop unnecessary stockpiling that could leave other shoppers without access to essential supplies. According to officials, the restriction is purely a precaution and should not be seen as a sign of a shortage. The ministry stressed that bottled water production remains stable and factories continue to operate at full capacity. Regular deliveries are being made to markets and cooperative stores, ensuring that supplies remain sufficient to meet consumer demand. Officials explained that the temporary limit is designed to promote fair distribution and prevent panic buying during the current situation. They said excessive purchasing by a small number of customers can quickly create empty shelves, increase crowding at stores and trigger unnecessary public concern even when supplies remain adequate. The ministry also confirmed that it is closely monitoring the implementation of the policy. Cooperative societies that fail to follow the instructions or violate the regulations could face action from the authorities. Officials urged retailers to strictly apply the purchase limit so that bottled water remains available to all consumers. Residents have been encouraged to buy only the amount they genuinely need and avoid hoarding. The ministry also warned against spreading unverified information or rumors that could create unnecessary fear and encourage panic buying among the public. Officials emphasized that responsible purchasing will help maintain steady supplies and prevent disruption in the market. In a separate development, Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced a new legal framework for e-commerce platforms to improve consumer protection and regulate the country’s rapidly growing online marketplace. The regulations were introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 109 of 2026 and officially came into force on July 8. They apply to all digital platforms involved in selling, ordering and delivering products within Kuwait. The new rules clearly define the responsibilities of online platforms, merchants, delivery companies and consumers. Officials said the regulations are intended to create a more transparent business environment while encouraging fair competition and supporting future investment in the digital economy. Under the updated framework, companies operating electronic platforms must obtain the required licences and comply with existing laws. They are also required to strengthen cybersecurity measures and protect their digital systems and customer information from cyberattacks, data breaches and misuse. Authorities believe the updated regulations will help build greater public confidence in online shopping while ensuring higher standards of safety and accountability across Kuwait’s expanding e-commerce sector.

US makes visa bond programme permanent, raises limit to $20,000

The United States has announced that its visa bond programme will become permanent, introducing stricter financial requirements for certain foreign travellers seeking business and tourist visas. Under the new policy, US consular officers will have the authority to require applicants from 50 countries to post a refundable bond of up to $20,000 before a visa is issued. The programme applies to B1 (business) and B2 (tourist) visas and is aimed at reducing the number of visitors who overstay their visas. According to a notice published in the Federal Register, the decision follows the completion of a pilot programme launched in 2025. Officials said the trial demonstrated that visa bonds could be an effective tool for improving compliance with US immigration rules. The new regulation will officially take effect on August 3. During the pilot phase, applicants could be asked to pay bonds of $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000. The updated rule removes the $5,000 option and increases the maximum bond amount to $20,000, giving consular officers greater discretion when assessing visa applications. The programme covers citizens of 50 countries, with 30 of those nations located in Africa. US authorities say the selection is based on factors such as visa overstay rates and immigration compliance. The move is part of President Donald Trump’s broader immigration agenda, which focuses on tightening border controls and strengthening enforcement of immigration laws. The administration argues that stricter visa policies are necessary to protect national security and discourage individuals from remaining in the United States beyond the period allowed by their visas. However, immigration advocates and civil rights organisations have criticised the decision, saying the higher financial burden could discourage legitimate travellers, including tourists and business visitors, from applying for US visas. They also argue that recent immigration measures have made legal entry into the United States increasingly difficult through higher fees, expanded social media screening, and stricter visa requirements.

PTI founder not in solitary confinement

The Islamabad High Court on Thursday heard petitions challenging the alleged solitary confinement of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. During the proceedings, Advocate General (AG) Islamabad Naveed Hayat Malik informed the court that the two prisoners were not kept in solitary confinement, adding that they were being provided facilities even better than B-class prison standards. Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro presided over the hearing. The petitioners were represented by Barrister Salman Safdar, while the jail superintendent was also present in the courtroom and submitted a detailed report regarding the facilities provided to the high-profile inmates. Advocate General Malik clarified that the detainees were not isolated due to punitive measures but as a security protocol. He noted that the inability of petitioners’ families to meet them did not constitute solitary confinement. Meanwhile, Jail Superintendent Sajid Beg explained that solitary confinement legally means locking an inmate in a single cell for 24 hours—which, he emphasized, was not the case for Imran Khan. The PTI founder, he said, was housed in a compound consisting of seven interconnected cells, allowing free movement. Additionally, a convicted inmate was permanently assigned to accompany him, further disproving the solitary confinement claim. The superintendent also disclosed the amenities provided to Khan. He was given access to a television set, newspapers, and books. Both Urdu and English dailies are being delivered daily, and more than 500 books have been provided to him so far—with nine more recently added to his cell. However, Barrister Salman Safdar, representing the petitioners, painted a contrasting picture. He informed the court that on the Supreme Court’s directive, he had visited Imran Khan as a friend of the court and noticed his deteriorating eyesight. According to Safdar, Khan expressed satisfaction with his food, security, and bathroom facilities but pleaded: “Just save my eyesight.” Safdar further alleged that for seven months, he was not allowed to meet his client, and it was only after the intervention of the Chief Justice that a meeting was arranged in April, lasting barely 65 minutes. Out of that brief meeting, the PTI founder spent 60 minutes complaining about mental torture and restrictions on meetings. He claimed he was under 22-hour isolation while Bushra Bibi faced 24-hour confinement. Safdar also pointed out that the TV provided in the cell had no functioning channels. In a disturbing revelation, Safdar informed the court that Imran Khan’s 68-year-old sister, Aleema Khanum, visited Adiala Jail 38 times without being granted a single meeting. The PTI founder has also been deprived of telephonic conversations with his sons for the last eight months. Safdar argued that this psychological torture is far more severe than physical violence and urged the court to intervene. He requested that a panel of three lawyers be formed to visit the jail and independently assess the conditions. He also demanded that Imran Khan be allowed a weekly phone call with his sons and that the jail authorities submit an affidavit committing to this arrangement. Justice Soomro noted that he had previously visited jails in Sindh when he was a senior judge there, but Aleema Khanum interjected, urging the judge to personally visit Adiala Jail to ascertain the reality. After hearing all parties, the court directed them to submit written reports and relevant legal references, after which an appropriate order would be issued.

Scarlett Johansson reflects on how Hollywood red c…

Scarlett Johansson is opening up about the evolution of Hollywood’s red carpet culture, revealing how the expectations placed on actors have shifted dramatically since she began her career. The Oscar-nominated actress says today’s approach to fashion and public appearances is far more polished and strategic than it was when she first entered the entertainment industry. Speaking in a recent interview, Johansson reflected on the early years of her career, recalling a time when red carpet events felt more relaxed and less focused on creating viral fashion moments. According to the actress, celebrities once had greater freedom to express themselves without the intense scrutiny that now comes with every public appearance. (People) Johansson explained that, in the past, actors often selected outfits based on personal preference rather than carefully planned branding strategies. Today, however, red carpet appearances have become an important part of celebrity image-building, with stylists, fashion houses, and social media all playing significant roles in shaping a star’s public identity. The Black Widow star acknowledged that fashion remains an exciting part of the entertainment industry, but she believes the pressure surrounding high-profile events has increased considerably. Every outfit is now analyzed instantly across social media platforms, where fans and fashion critics closely examine every detail. She noted that celebrities were able to experiment with different styles without worrying that every fashion choice would become the subject of widespread online discussion. The actress also reflected on how digital media has transformed celebrity culture. Before the rise of social media, red carpet moments were largely limited to television broadcasts and magazine coverage. Today, images circulate around the world within seconds, making fashion an even bigger part of an actor’s public presence. (Vanity Fair and People) Despite the changes, Johansson said she still enjoys attending premieres and industry events. She praised the creativity of designers and stylists while emphasizing that confidence and authenticity remain more important than following every trend. For her, the best fashion moments are those that genuinely reflect a person’s personality rather than simply chasing headlines. Johansson’s comments have resonated with many fans, who praised her honest perspective on the realities of modern Hollywood. Some agreed that celebrity fashion has become increasingly commercialized, while others argued that social media has also given stars more opportunities to connect directly with audiences and showcase their individual style. As one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actresses, Johansson has attended countless premieres, award shows, and international film festivals throughout her career. Her reflections offer a rare behind-the-scenes look at how celebrity culture has evolved over the past two decades.
