British funeral director sentenced to 20 years in prison for fraud and desecration of remains

Former funeral director Robert Bush, 48, has been jailed for 20 years at Hull Crown Court after pleading guilty to 67 criminal charges. The charges include preventing a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation, fraudulent trading, and theft, spanning a period of nearly 12 years at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, East Yorkshire.

The police investigation, launched in March 2024 following a report from a casual worker, uncovered 35 decomposing bodies left uncovered and un-cremated at the business’s Hessle Road premises.

Investigators revealed that Bush had repeatedly provided grieving relatives with ashes belonging to strangers, including delivering young adult remains to the parents of a stillborn baby whose body was discovered stored in a paper bag on site.

Bush also stole thousands of pounds in charitable donations collected from mourners at memorial services.

Presiding Judge Nicholas Hilliard described Bush’s actions as “heartless” and motivated by greed, noting that his crimes caused pain and anguish on an incomprehensible scale.

Alongside the 20-year custodial sentence, Bush has been banned from acting as a company director for 14 years. The severe failure has prompted renewed demands across the United Kingdom for stricter statutory regulation of the funeral industry.

Iran says US violated Islamabad MoU

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the United States of violating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, saying the agreement called for an end to the war, rather than a 60-day ceasefire that would require an extension. In an interview with ISNA, Araghchi said the memorandum declared an end to hostilities and blamed Washington for the subsequent resumption of fighting. He clarified that the 60-day period mentioned in the agreement referred to negotiations aimed at reaching a final settlement, not a temporary ceasefire. Araghchi said Qatar and Pakistan, which acted as mediators, continue to exchange messages with Tehran and remain in contact with Iranian officials. However, he stressed that Iran has not yet decided to resume negotiations with Washington. On the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said Iran and Oman were continuing discussions on its management. He described the issue as separate from the Islamabad MoU and said Iran was working on a temporary route that could eventually become permanent. Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi rejected US President Donald Trump’s claims about the Strait of Hormuz. Writing on X, Gharibabadi said Iran would not surrender control of the strategic waterway because of threats, military displays or political statements. He stressed that Iran does not fear US pressure and retains authority over the Strait.

Ben Affleck spends 54th birthday with Garner amid JLo buzz

Ben Affleck marked his 54th birthday on Saturday, August 15, with a quiet family celebration. His former wife, Jennifer Garner, was among those who joined in marking the occasion. The two share three children together, Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14. According to a Daily Mail report, Affleck kept this year’s celebrations especially low-key, given that it marks his first birthday since losing his mother, Chris Anne. The family gathering took place in Santa Monica, where Garner and the children joined Affleck for an intimate celebration. For the outing, Affleck wore a white button-down shirt paired with blue jeans and matching sneakers. He was seen heading to a favourite local eatery over the weekend, accompanied by his two sons, Fin and Samuel. Garner arrived separately for the celebration, dressed in green fitted gym trousers, a black hoodie and a blue baseball cap. Despite both attending the same birthday outing, Affleck and Garner weren’t spotted together during the celebration itself. The appearance also holds added significance given recent speculation about Affleck’s personal life. This marks the former couple’s first public outing together since rumours began swirling about a possible reunion between Affleck and Jennifer Lopez. Affleck and Garner divorced in 2015 after ten years of marriage. Meanwhile, Affleck finalised his separation from Lopez in 2025, following roughly two years of marriage. Reports earlier this month suggested the two had been spending quality time together, including during a secretive getaway in Italy. An insider claimed Lopez feels genuinely thrilled to have reconnected emotionally with Affleck, despite their difficult split back in February last year. The source described Affleck as comfortable continuing to offer Lopez guidance and emotional support whenever she needs it. Neither Lopez nor Affleck has directly addressed the growing reunion speculation so far. For now, both the birthday outing with Garner and the reunion buzz with Lopez continue to draw significant attention from fans and entertainment outlets alike. With his personal life generating steady headlines in recent weeks, Affleck’s understated birthday celebration offered a rare, low-profile moment amid the ongoing speculation surrounding his relationships.

Thank you for calling us Cockroaches’: activist reacts to Indian Education Minister’s resignation

Following the resignation of Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief Abhijit Dipke addressed a protest rally at Jantar Mantar and thanked those who had referred to young people as “cockroaches.” Speaking at the demonstration, Dipke directly addressed Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, saying that if the chief justice had not used the term, he would not have returned to India and the protest movement would never have begun. According to Indian media reports, the youth-led campaign began after a Supreme Court hearing on May 15. During a case concerning the designation of senior advocates, Chief Justice Surya Kant reportedly compared some young people to cockroaches, saying they struggled to find employment and opportunities in their professions. The chief justice later clarified that his remarks were directed at people holding fake law degrees and were not intended to describe unemployed youth generally. However, the statement quickly spread across social media and triggered widespread criticism. The following day, Abhijit Dipke, a student based in Boston and a former communications strategist for the Aam Aadmi Party, announced the formation of the Cockroach Janta Party in a satirical social media post. Dipke presented the group as a platform for young people who considered themselves “cockroaches” — including unemployed youth, active social media users and those critical of the existing system. The campaign gained momentum as public anger increased over allegations surrounding a National Eligibility Test (NET) paper leak. Dipke returned to India in early June and began leading protests at Jantar Mantar. The protesters’ main demand was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations. The movement later received wider attention when social activist Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28. He ended the hunger strike after 26 days following written assurances from the government. The assurances included a commitment that peaceful protesters would not face criminal cases. The government also agreed to consider examination reforms and accountability measures in Parliament. It further agreed to consider a proposal for compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the reported paper leak. Despite the end of Wangchuk’s hunger strike, the Cockroach Janta Party continued demanding Pradhan’s resignation. The protests continued even after demonstrators were reportedly subjected to a baton charge on July 20. Growing pressure eventually led to Pradhan stepping down. In his resignation, Pradhan said he was leaving his position with the future of students in mind. He also said the decision was necessary to prevent anti-national elements from taking advantage of the situation at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere across the country.

Two of Pakistani television’s most beloved actresses are set to share the screen in what is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated drama productions of the year. Mehwish Hayat and Hiba Bukhari will both appear in Rutba, a mega drama series coming to ARY Digital that has already generated considerable excitement online since the news broke. The drama is written by Umera Ahmed, whose work consistently draws large audiences and critical attention in equal measure. It is directed by Haseeb Hassan, who has built a strong reputation for handling ensemble productions with care and precision, and is produced by Six Sigma and Next Level Entertainment. The cast assembled for Rutba is a genuinely impressive one, bringing together Mehwish Hayat, Hiba Bukhari, Saif Ali Khan, Zahid Ahmed, Talha Chahour and others in what promises to be a story of considerable scope. The news was confirmed by Saif Ali Khan during a recent interview, where he spoke about being part of the production alongside several of the show’s other key cast members. The confirmation sparked immediate excitement among fans of the actors involved. Mehwish Hayat is one of Pakistani drama and film’s most consistent and high-profile performers. She has delivered hit after hit across both mediums, with drama serials including Dil Lagi, Meray Qatil Meray Dildar, Dayan and Mirat-ul-Uroos cementing her standing as one of television’s most capable leading ladies. On the big screen, she has been part of two of Pakistani cinema’s biggest commercial successes, Punjab Nahi Jaungi and London Nahi Jaunga, both of which crossed major box office milestones and established her as a genuine film star rather than simply a television name. Hiba Bukhari has built her own formidable body of work across the same period. Her performances in Deewangi, Fitoor, Meray Humnasheen and Jaan Nisar have made her one of the most consistently watched actresses on Pakistani television, with a fanbase that follows her work with considerable loyalty and enthusiasm. The online response to the Rutba announcement has reflected exactly that. Fan comments flooded in with excitement over the pairing, with particular curiosity around the roles that Hiba Bukhari and Saif Ali Khan will be playing. Some fans expressed anticipation over the prospect of seeing Hiba in a new and different kind of character, while others simply celebrated the fact that two of their favourite actresses would be appearing in the same production. With Umera Ahmed’s writing, Haseeb Hassan’s direction and a cast of this calibre, Rutba arrives with substantial expectation behind it. No air date has yet been announced, but the confirmation alone has been enough to put the drama firmly on the radar of Pakistani television audiences well ahead of its premiere.

Olivia Culpo reveals birth plan for second baby as…

Olivia Culpo is opening up about the realities of preparing for baby number two, offering fans an honest glimpse into her birth plan while husband Christian McCaffrey gears up for another demanding NFL season. The former Miss Universe, who is currently in her third trimester, admitted that this pregnancy feels very different from her first as she navigates motherhood alongside her husband’s football commitments.  In a recent TikTok “Get Ready With Me” video, Culpo shared that she has been feeling especially emotional as McCaffrey prepares to return to training camp with the San Francisco 49ers. While many fans associate the NFL season with September kickoffs, Culpo pointed out that players report for training camp in late July, meaning the family’s routine changes well before the regular season begins.  The 34-year-old model also revealed that she will deliver her second child via a scheduled C-section. Having undergone a cesarean delivery with her first child, daughter Colette Annalise McCaffrey, last year, Culpo explained that a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) is not an option for her. As a result, she and McCaffrey carefully planned the procedure around one of the NFL star’s lighter workdays, allowing him to be present for the birth before returning to his team shortly afterward.  Although the arrangement is bittersweet, Culpo remains optimistic. She admitted that knowing McCaffrey will head back to football soon after the baby’s arrival makes this experience very different from welcoming their first child. Still, she expressed gratitude for the strong support system surrounding her, saying she is thankful for her family, friends, and those helping her through the transition.  Culpo and McCaffrey have been together since 2019 and tied the knot in June 2024. They welcomed their first daughter, Colette, in July 2025 before announcing in May 2026 that they were expecting their second child. Their pregnancy announcement, shared on Culpo’s birthday, featured heartfelt family photos and sonogram images, delighting fans across social media.  As the couple prepares to expand their family, Culpo’s candid update has resonated with many parents who understand the challenge of balancing family milestones with demanding careers. Despite the emotional adjustments ahead, she remains focused on welcoming her newest addition while celebrating the unwavering support she shares with McCaffrey, proving that teamwork extends well beyond the football field.

Iran says Hormuz cannot be seized by ‘tweet or w…

Iran has rejected US threats over the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, with Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi declaring that the waterway cannot be taken over through a presidential order, social media post, aircraft carrier or election speech. Gharibabadi’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump threatened to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory, according to Iranian media reports. The comments have added another layer of tension to an already volatile confrontation between Washington and Tehran. Writing on X, Gharibabadi said the strategic waterway could not be brought under American control through political statements or military pressure. He argued that decisions concerning the strait remained in Iran’s hands. “The Strait of Hormuz was, is and will remain Iranian,” Gharibabadi said, stressing that Tehran would determine when the passage could be opened or closed. The deputy foreign minister also said Iran was not intimidated by American threats and would continue its blockade until Washington acknowledged what he described as its “strategic defeats” and abandoned what he called unrealistic expectations. Trump has separately warned that he could soon announce plans to designate the Strait of Hormuz as US territory. His reported comments have intensified concerns over the future of one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Arabian Sea. A major disruption to traffic through the narrow waterway could have significant consequences for global energy markets because substantial volumes of oil and gas pass through it. Iran’s latest statement therefore carries significance far beyond its dispute with Washington. Any prolonged confrontation around the strait could affect commercial shipping, energy supplies and international markets. The exchange of threats also highlights the broader strategic struggle between Iran and the United States, with both sides showing little sign of backing down. For Tehran, the message is clear: control of Hormuz is being presented as a matter of sovereignty and national security, while Washington’s threats are being dismissed as insufficient to alter Iran’s position.
