TAXILA: A female TikTok content creator was shot dead and her teenage sister critically wounded in a broad-daylight attack near the Taxila bypass on GT Road, police said.

According to police sources, the sisters were travelling in their car when a motorcyclist intercepted them near the bypass and opened fire. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds, while their vehicle lost control and crashed into a dumper.

The content creator died at the scene, while her critically injured sister was initially taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Taxila, before being shifted to Islamabad for further treatment.

The victim’s brother told police that he had nominated two suspects in the case, alleging that a financial dispute between the woman and the accused had led to the targeted attack. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the shooting.

In a separate incident in Attock, police registered a target-killing case following the shooting deaths of two brothers in Malho village, within the jurisdiction of Rango Police Station in Hazro.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a village pond in the Chappri area of Jand. Rescue 1122 officials recovered the boy’s body and shifted it to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Police registered a case and began an investigation into the incident.

    CHAKWAL: Three minors were allegedly subjected to sexual abuse in separate incidents reported in Chakwal district, with police registering cases against the suspects and arresting three men, including a mosque imam, while two others were taken into custody after an alleged exchange of fire. The incidents, reported in the jurisdictions of Wanhar and Kallar Kahar police stations, have caused concern among residents and prompted calls for effective protection of children and swift action against those found responsible. In the first case, a 10-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a local mosque imam after other children attending Quran lessons had left the mosque, according to the complaint lodged by her father with Wanhar police. The complainant said his two daughters regularly went to a nearby mosque in Mohallah Bawa Khan Baig to learn Quranic recitation. On the day of the alleged incident, the imam allegedly sent the 5years younger sister home early and dismissed the other children after hearing their lessons. According to the complaint, the suspect then allegedly called the 10-year-old girl into a room and sexually assaulted her. The girl was allegedly threatened with a knife and warned that she would be killed if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Police registered a case against the imam and launched an investigation. The suspect was subsequently arrested in an injured condition during an operation in the Manara area, police said. According to police, a raid on Wasnal Road, Manara, to arrest the suspect when he allegedly attempted to flee after seeing the police party. Police said the suspect stumbled and fell while fleeing, causing a pistol allegedly concealed in his waistband to discharge. He sustained a gunshot wound and was arrested before being shifted to the Trauma Centre in Kallar Kahar for medical treatment. The suspect was identified as Maulvi Saqlain Hussain, son of Nazar Hussain, a resident of Manara. In a separate incident within the jurisdiction of Kallar Kahar police station, a 16-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who was staying at a local mosque in Shamsabad, near Khai village. According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, who is a prayer leader at the mosque, the suspect allegedly assaulted his son and later attempted to assault him again. The complainant said the boy had initially remained silent about the alleged earlier incident out of fear. However, when he went to serve food to the traveller staying at the mosque, a commotion was heard after some time. The mosque caretaker and the boy’s father allegedly reached the spot and saw the suspect attempting to assault the boy, prompting the suspect to flee, according to the complaint. The boy later informed his father about the alleged earlier incident as well. In the third incident, two men allegedly involved in the sexual assault of a Class 10 student were arrested in an injured condition following an alleged exchange of fire in Chak Nagri, an area falling within Wanhar police jurisdiction. According to police, the suspects and two unidentified accomplices had allegedly taken the student to a nearby forest several days earlier, subjected him to severe physical assault and sexually assaulted him. Police alleged that the suspects recorded the incident and subsequently used the video to blackmail and intimidate the student. A police team later raided the suspected hideout to arrest the accused, police said. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party along with their two unidentified accomplices. During the ensuing exchange of fire, the two wanted suspects sustained gunshot wounds, allegedly after being hit by firing from their own accomplices, according to police. The two unidentified men escaped under the cover of darkness and the forest terrain. The injured suspects were arrested and shifted to a medical facility for treatment. Police said further investigation and legal proceedings were under way. The three cases have highlighted concerns over the vulnerability of children to sexual violence and exploitation. Residents have called for prompt investigation of the allegations, protection of the victims and strict action against suspects if the charges are established in court. Police officials said investigations into all the cases were continuing and that further action would be taken in accordance with the law.

    Palaeontologists have identified a new species of Late Triassic dinosaur from fossils discovered on the shores of Lake Kariba in northern Zimbabwe, offering fresh insights into prehistoric ecosystems across southern Africa. Musango was an early sauropodomorph, an evolutionary precursor to massive four-legged herbivores like Diplodocus, though this earlier relative was lightly built and walked primarily on two legs. He also rejected a video circulating on social media that purportedly showed a meeting between him and Imran Khan, describing the footage as fake. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s orders regarding the PTI founder’s treatment should have been implemented. According to Gohar, Imran Khan’s medical treatment was a straightforward matter and there was no justification for preventing his transfer. He said whoever stopped the transfer or changed the plan at the last moment had made the wrong decision. He acknowledged that the PTI also had concerns about Imran Khan’s security but said the government had never informed the party that security concerns were preventing his transfer to Shifa International Hospital. Gohar further said the party’s core and political committees had already made their position clear through official statements, asking supporters and party workers not to go to Shifa Hospital. Instead, Imran Khan was transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). However, Gohar claimed that the required treatment was not provided there either. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s directions could still be implemented if the relevant authorities were willing to act on them. The PTI chairman also revealed that the party’s petition had been assigned a case number in the Supreme Court and that a request had been submitted for an early hearing. He said the united opposition would now adopt a joint strategy in both the National Assembly and the Senate. Addressing allegations that the PTI had violated court orders, Gohar rejected the claim, saying the party had not disobeyed any Supreme Court directive. He clarified that Imran Khan’s sister had spoken publicly and confirmed that he had been taken to PIMS. Gohar said the PTI’s contempt petition was intended to seek implementation of the Supreme Court’s orders. He described it as a civil contempt matter rather than an attempt to challenge the court. He also mentioned that Noorain Niazi had been pleased after meeting Imran Khan the previous Tuesday.     Consumers continue to bear a substantial burden of taxes, levies and distribution margins on petroleum products, with a significant portion of the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) going towards government charges and other components rather than the basic fuel cost. According to official documents, petrol is currently priced at Rs327.62 per litre, while the basic cost of the product stands at Rs197.69 per litre. This means consumers are paying around Rs130 per litre in the form of petroleum levy, taxes, freight-related charges and margins. The documents indicate that the government has imposed a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre on petrol, making it one of the largest components of the additional charges paid by consumers. In addition to the petroleum levy, petrol carries a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre and customs duty of Rs21.24 per litre. The price also includes an inland freight equalisation margin of Rs7.48 per litre. Meanwhile, oil marketing companies (OMCs) receive a margin of Rs7.87 per litre, while petroleum dealers are entitled to a margin of Rs8.64 per litre. Taken together, these taxes, levies, freight charges and commercial margins add a sizeable amount to the underlying cost of petrol, resulting in a significant difference between the basic product cost and the final price paid at filling stations. Diesel also carries substantial charges A similar situation is visible in the pricing structure of high-speed diesel. According to the documents, the basic cost of HSD has been calculated at Rs264.76 per litre, whereas its notified consumer price stands at Rs380.86 per litre. The difference of approximately Rs116 per litre represents taxes, levies and various margins included in the final price of diesel. The petroleum levy on HSD stands at Rs74.28 per litre, while a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre is also included in the price structure. Consumers are additionally paying Rs15.68 per litre in customs duty on HSD. The inland freight equalisation margin accounts for another Rs4.63 per litre. The pricing structure also provides Rs7.87 per litre as the margin for oil marketing companies and Rs8.64 per litre as the dealers’ margin. The figures highlight the significant role played by government levies and other charges in determining retail petroleum prices. While the basic cost reflects the underlying price of the petroleum product, the final amount paid by consumers also incorporates a range of taxes, levies, freight costs and margins. The petroleum levy remains one of the most prominent components of the pricing structure for both petrol and diesel.
