Delhi high court orders removal of Kala Hiran teaser, says Salman Khan’s reputation must be protected

The Delhi High Court has ruled against the teaser of Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy, directing that it be taken down within 24 hours. The film is widely believed to draw from Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case, and the court found that letting the teaser stay online could hurt the actor’s public image. Justice Jyoti Singh made it clear that if the makers did not comply, platforms including X and YouTube would be ordered to remove the relevant links themselves.

Khan had initially approached the court to protect his personality rights and won that protection early on. He then pushed further, asking for the film to be banned outright, insisting it mirrors his still-unresolved poaching case far too closely. His plea claimed the film features a character who looks just like him, wearing a bracelet he’s often seen with, and includes content he calls defamatory, including suggestions of underworld ties. He also flagged concerns that the film could interfere with his right to a fair trial, given that the original case is still active in both the Rajasthan High Court and the Supreme Court.

Adding to his argument, Khan’s petition referenced an incident involving producer Amit Jani, who reportedly ripped up a legal notice sent by Khan’s lawyers during a public interview, then claimed on social media that he was being threatened by the actor and underworld figures. Justice Singh didn’t hold back on this point, saying the teaser was actively harming Khan’s reputation with each passing day it remained accessible, and reminded the court that a person’s reputation, built over years, can unravel almost instantly.

Lawyers for the producer pushed back, saying the teaser never actually mentions Khan by name, does not rely on AI-generated visuals or deepfakes, and only reflects publicly known events, not anything exclusive to him. Khan’s side rejected that argument, maintaining that the resemblance was too obvious to ignore. They also noted he has already been acquitted in three of the four criminal cases linked to the incident, with his sentence in the last one currently on hold.

After watching the teaser during the hearing, Justice Singh observed that portraying an ongoing legal matter this way could border on contempt of court. The judge also addressed the responsibilities of digital platforms, noting that companies like Meta and Google can’t fully sidestep accountability, even without a pre-publication order. Khan has now been directed to share a list of specific links he wants removed.

PPP rejects Sindh division, calls province ‘red …

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has firmly rejected any proposal to divide Sindh into administrative units, with Sindh government spokesperson Saadia Javed declaring that the province remains a “red line” for the party. Speaking to the media on Monday, Javed said the PPP has never supported the division of Sindh and has no intention of doing so in the future. She argued that Pakistan’s current economic challenges and rising inflation make the creation of additional administrative units impractical, questioning how the government would finance such a move. Criticising the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), she described the demand for new administrative units as a political stunt. Javed questioned the performance of senior MQM leaders, including Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, asking what concrete steps they had taken to address the concerns of their voters or improve education and public services. She reiterated that Karachi is the capital of Sindh and stressed that any attempt to divide the province is unacceptable to the PPP. According to Javed, while some people in Punjab may favour the creation of additional administrative units, the people of Sindh do not share that view. Addressing Karachi’s civic challenges, she acknowledged that infrastructure development is underway but admitted that progress has not been as fast as residents expect. Referring to ongoing construction on University Road, she recognised the inconvenience faced by commuters and residents. She also shared her own experience, saying that despite living in Defence for four decades, her home still does not receive a regular water supply. Javed said the provincial government is working to resolve Karachi’s longstanding issues and insisted that all of the city’s problems should not be blamed solely on the current administration. She expressed confidence that visible improvements in Karachi would emerge by the end of the year. On the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit project, the spokesperson said work is progressing at a rapid pace, adding that the deadline for completing the mixed-lane track has been set for July 31.

Hammad Azam guides San Francisco Unicorns to thrilling GSL win

San Francisco Unicorns secured a hard-fought five-run victory over Perth Scorchers XI in their Global Super League (GSL) 2026 clash at Providence Stadium on Sunday, thanks to an outstanding all-round team performance led by Hammad Azam. After being put under pressure early in their innings, the Unicorns recovered impressively to post 152-8 in their allotted 20 overs. The foundation of the total was laid by Hammad Azam, who produced a composed unbeaten knock of 64 from 46 deliveries. The Unicorns’ batting line-up struggled at the start, slipping from 42-1 to 46-5 inside the opening six overs as the Scorchers’ bowlers dominated with the new ball. With wickets falling regularly, Hammad steadied the innings and prevented a complete collapse. He mixed caution with aggression, striking four boundaries and five sixes during his match-defining innings. His ability to rotate the strike while punishing loose deliveries helped the Unicorns recover from a difficult position and reach a competitive total. Chasing 153 for victory, Perth Scorchers XI also found themselves in early trouble. Opener Andre Fletcher was dismissed for just one in the opening over, while Joel Curtis managed only 16 before departing. Experienced batter D’Arcy Short anchored the chase with a patient 43, attempting to guide his side through the middle overs. He built useful partnerships with Usman Khan, who scored 14, and Ashton Turner, who contributed 13. Despite those efforts, regular wickets kept disrupting the chase and prevented the Scorchers from building lasting momentum. The turning point came in the 16th over when Short was dismissed with the score on 103-7, leaving Perth Scorchers XI with a difficult task in the closing stages of the innings. Just when the contest appeared to be slipping away, Brody Couch produced a spirited late assault to revive his team’s hopes. The lower-order batter blasted 23 runs from only 12 balls, smashing two fours and two sixes in an entertaining cameo. Couch and Akeal Hosein added 39 runs for the ninth wicket, reducing the target significantly and setting up a tense finish. Hosein also played an important supporting role with 16 runs as the pair pushed the match into the final over. However, the Unicorns held their composure under pressure. Hosein was dismissed on the penultimate delivery of the innings, ending the Scorchers’ hopes of completing a remarkable comeback. Perth Scorchers XI finished on 147-9, falling just five runs short of the target. With the ball, Ghulam Mudassar delivered a match-winning spell for San Francisco Unicorns, claiming four wickets at crucial moments to derail the Scorchers’ chase. His breakthroughs, combined with disciplined bowling in the closing overs, ensured the Unicorns successfully defended their total. Hammad Azam’s unbeaten half-century and Ghulam Mudassar’s four-wicket haul proved decisive as San Francisco Unicorns registered a memorable victory in a closely contested Global Super League encounter, strengthening their campaign with an impressive all-round performance.

The rise of Gen Z activism in India: A digital era…

India’s younger generation is increasingly shaping public debate through digital platforms, demonstrating how social media has become a powerful tool for civic engagement and political participation. Unlike previous generations that relied heavily on traditional media or established political organizations, many members of Generation Z use platforms such as X, Instagram, and YouTube to share information, organize campaigns, and amplify public concerns. The growing influence of digital activism reflects a broader global trend. Young people are more connected than ever before, enabling them to discuss social, educational, economic, and political issues in real time. Social media allows ideas to spread rapidly, encourages public participation, and provides a space where diverse opinions can be expressed. As a result, youth-led campaigns can attract national and even international attention within a short period. Peaceful civic participation remains one of the most effective ways for citizens to express their views. When protests and public campaigns remain non-violent and focused on dialogue, they can encourage discussions between governments, institutions, and the public. Digital platforms complement these efforts by helping organizers communicate with supporters, share updates, and raise awareness about issues that affect young people. At the same time, digital activism also presents challenges. Information shared online may not always be accurate, and misinformation can spread quickly if claims are not verified. For this reason, responsible use of social media is essential. Participants, journalists, and readers alike should rely on credible sources, verify facts, and encourage respectful discussion rather than polarization. The increasing involvement of Gen Z in public affairs highlights the importance of youth voices in a democratic society. Young citizens often bring fresh perspectives on education, employment, governance, and social justice. Their participation can contribute to meaningful conversations about policy and accountability while encouraging greater civic engagement among their peers. As digital technology continues to evolve, the relationship between social media and public participation is likely to become even stronger. Governments, civil society organizations, and educational institutions will need to adapt to this changing landscape by promoting digital literacy, transparency, and constructive dialogue. Regardless of political viewpoints, the rise of digitally connected youth demonstrates that technology is transforming how citizens engage with public issues, making informed participation and responsible communication more important than ever.

Speaking on the occasion, SEF Managing Director Gahanwer Ali Laghari said the Foundation’s mandate extended beyond improving access to education and academic outcomes. “Alongside quality education, we want our students to develop leadership, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
