Expo Faisalabad 2026’ a springboard for MSMEs: SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan

LAHORE (July 25) – Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a robust and competitive ecosystem for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Speaking at “Expo Faisalabad 2026”, being held from July 24 to 26 at the Expo Center, Lahore, he emphasized that the sector remains central to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for sustainable economic growth, industrial development and export promotion.

He said Pakistan has militarily shown its prowess to the world and it’s time to show economic resilience and development.

He appreciated the efforts of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) for organizing the exhibition.

“Faisalabad is the industrial and textile heart of Pakistan and a major contributor to our exports and manufacturing sector. Platforms like Expo Faisalabad create valuable opportunities for entrepreneurs to showcase their products, build business partnerships and explore new markets,” he said.

The SAPM said the government has placed special emphasis on improving access to finance, promoting business formalization, enhancing exports and creating an enabling environment where entrepreneurs can innovate, invest and expand their businesses.

He appreciated SMEDA’s proactive engagement with the business community and its efforts to connect entrepreneurs with government support programmes through exhibitions and outreach activities across the country.

Earlier, CEO SMEDA Nadia Jahangir Seth said the Authority remains committed to supporting entrepreneurs through strategic partnerships and market-driven interventions.

“SMEDA believes that exhibitions such as Expo Faisalabad are powerful platforms for connecting entrepreneurs with opportunities, knowledge and government support services. Its participation reflects the commitment to promoting business formalization, improving competitiveness, facilitating market access and strengthening Pakistan’s MSME ecosystem through sustained engagement with the private sector,” she emphasized.

SMEDA has established a dedicated helpdesk where entrepreneurs and visitors are being briefed on the flagship initiatives, government support programmes and business development services. The helpdesk is also facilitating free registration of informal enterprises through the SME Registration Portal (SMERP), enabling businesses to formalize their operations and benefit from enhanced opportunities for growth, financing and market access.

As part of its capacity-building programme, SMEDA is conducting sessions on “Marketing Strategies for SMEs” and “Improving Product Quality for Export Markets”, equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge to improve competitiveness and strengthen their presence in domestic and international markets.

Expo Faisalabad 2026 has brought together leading manufacturers, exporters, investors, entrepreneurs and business support organizations to showcase Faisalabad’s industrial excellence and create new avenues for trade, investment and business collaboration.

    Lahore: Reinforcing its commitment to promoting education and supporting talented students facing financial hardships, Allah Wale Foundation (AWF) has approved scholarships for deserving students of the University of Rasul, Mandi Bahauddin. As part of the selection process, scholarship interviews were conducted on 5 August 2026 at AWF’s Mega Kitchen on Raiwind Road, Lahore. Following a comprehensive assessment, all 34 shortlisted students were awarded scholarships. The Scholarship Selection Committee comprised Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt, Director of the Scholarships Program; Dr. Shazia Lone, Finance Secretary; Mr. Majid Mustafa; and Qazi Muhammad Ali, representative of the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). The committee evaluated applicants on the basis of academic merit, financial need, and overall eligibility before making its recommendations. Under the approved financial assistance package, Rs. 962,000 has been allocated for tuition fees, Rs. 120,000 for hostel charges, Rs. 864,000 for mess expenses, Rs. 180,000 for transportation, and Rs. 1,212,000 as monthly stipends. The total value of scholarships approved for the current semester amounts to Rs. 3,338,000. Speaking on the occasion, AWF Chairman Shahid Lone commended the Scholarship Selection Committee for conducting a transparent and merit-based evaluation process. He emphasized that investing in education is, in essence, an investment in the nation’s future and the development of its human capital. Dr. Khalid Manzoor Butt stated that the Foundation’s financial support would enable deserving students to continue their professional education without financial barriers while empowering them to become responsible, self-reliant, and productive members of society. He added that the success of a student extends far beyond individual achievement, creating opportunities for entire families and contributing to the development of a more educated, prosperous, and progressive society.

    Stephen Baldwin has opened up about one of the biggest decisions of his career, revealing why he stepped away from mainstream Hollywood despite enjoying major success in the 1990s. The actor said he deliberately chose a different path from fellow movie star Tom Cruise, explaining that fame and blockbuster success were never his ultimate goals.  Baldwin, now 60, reflected on his career in a recent interview with People, looking back at the period following his acclaimed performance in the Oscar-winning film The Usual Suspects. Instead, Baldwin said he decided to walk away from that path after experiencing a profound change in his personal life.  “I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise and have to make $100 million at the box office,” Baldwin said, adding that he preferred living a simpler life over chasing blockbuster success. He stressed that the comment was not intended as criticism of Cruise but as an explanation of his own priorities and ambitions.  According to Baldwin, everything changed in the early 2000s when he became a born-again Christian. His spiritual journey began after a Brazilian housekeeper working for his family shared what he described as a prophetic message, saying he and his wife, Kennya Baldwin, would one day dedicate their lives to ministry. Although skeptical at first, Baldwin said his perspective shifted after attending Christian events with his sister Beth Baldwin.  One event featuring Christian skateboarders particularly inspired him. The experience led him to create Livin It, a faith-based skateboarding video that combined extreme sports with Christian teachings. The project became a success and eventually grew into a nationwide ministry that took Baldwin to more than 125 churches over four years. That, he said, was the moment he realized his future was no longer in mainstream Hollywood.  Since then, Baldwin has focused on producing faith-based content while remaining active through podcasts, speaking engagements and independent projects. He admitted that his outspoken religious beliefs and political views may have made him less appealing to traditional Hollywood studios, but he has no regrets about the direction his life has taken.  The actor also credited his family for keeping him grounded. Married to Kennya Baldwin since 1990, he said his wife has been his “anchor,” while describing his faith as the foundation of everything he does.     The Pakistan Stock Exchange started the week with a strong rally on Monday. The benchmark KSE-100 Index gained more than 5,000 points during intraday trading. The sharp rise came as investors welcomed the pause in fighting between the United States and Iran. The index opened with strong buying activity. By 9:50am, it had risen 4,501 points to reach 175,522.53 points. The previous close was 171,021.20 points. The upward movement continued during the morning session. By 10:30am, the index had gained 5,069 points and reached 176,090.08 points. The improved geopolitical situation boosted investor confidence. The United States and Iran have paused their military strikes. The development has raised hopes for renewed diplomatic efforts. Investors also expect the easing of tensions to support shipping activity through the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is important for global energy supplies. Any prolonged disruption can push oil prices higher and increase pressure on economies that depend on imported fuel. The latest development also affected global oil markets. Crude prices fell sharply as investors reacted to the temporary halt in hostilities. Brent crude briefly dropped below $90 per barrel. It fell more than 7% at one stage during early trading. US West Texas Intermediate crude also declined. The fall in international oil prices could provide some relief to Pakistan’s economy. Pakistan spends a significant amount on energy imports. Lower oil prices can therefore help reduce pressure on the country’s import bill and external account. Market analysts said the improvement in geopolitical conditions could also influence the State Bank of Pakistan’s monetary policy decision. Awais Ashraf, director of research at AKD Securities, said investors were expecting the central bank to maintain the policy rate. The State Bank is also expected to assess developments in the Middle East. The impact of recent floods on Pakistan’s economy will also remain under consideration. Analysts said the continuing decline in inflation and a relatively comfortable external account could support monetary easing in the coming months. However, economic activity and money supply trends remain important factors for policymakers. The strong rally follows a difficult week for the PSX. The KSE-100 Index had fallen by around 2.7% last week. The index lost 4,782 points and closed at 171,021.20 points. Rising tensions between the United States and Iran had increased uncertainty in financial markets. Higher international oil prices also added pressure. Investors had remained cautious because of concerns that the conflict could expand across the region. Monday’s sharp recovery shows how quickly market sentiment can change when geopolitical risks decline. Despite the strong gains, analysts remain cautious about the outlook. Further developments between Washington and Tehran will remain important. Global oil prices will also influence investor sentiment. The prime minister expressed hope that Prince Mansour’s latest visit would build upon earlier discussions and lead to the signing of memoranda of understanding and agreements in several sectors. He described the current period as an ideal opportunity to strengthen cooperation through both government-to-government and business-to-business partnerships. The Saudi delegation showed interest in investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, ports, highways, airport outsourcing, real estate, energy, power distribution and information technology. Prime Minister Shehbaz welcomed the proposals and assured the delegation of Pakistan’s support for mutually beneficial investment ventures. Prince Mansour thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and reaffirmed the Saudi government’s and business community’s commitment to expanding business-to-business ties with Pakistan. During its visit, the delegation is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior government officials and representatives of the private sector. PM Condemns Pishin Terrorist Attack Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack on labourers working on a road construction project in the Suranan area of Pishin district. The prime minister expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He denounced the targeting of hardworking citizens as a cowardly act and reaffirmed the government’s determination to combat terrorism. He stressed that the nation remained united against terrorism and that terrorists and their facilitators would not be permitted to undermine peace and stability in the country. The prime minister also prayed for the departed souls and for strength and patience for the bereaved families.
