Forensic report reveals new findings in Mir Raza c…

KARACHI: The forensic examination of a shirt belonging to Karachi youth Mir Raza has been completed. The report has been received by the police and is now being examined as part of the investigation.

According to investigative sources, traces of hydrochloric acid were reportedly detected on the shirt during the chemical analysis. The sources also said that substances associated with a sedative were found in a blood sample taken from Mir Raza.

The chemical examination was conducted to determine whether the shirt contained any material that could help investigators understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. The findings are expected to be considered along with other forensic evidence collected during the investigation.

Investigators also reported the presence of gunshot residue (GSR) on the waist area of Mir Raza’s shirt. Sources said the concentration of GSR was higher around the waist section. They said this finding could provide investigators with important information about the direction and circumstances of the shooting.

However, the forensic findings are expected to be assessed alongside other evidence before investigators reach any final conclusion. Police are also examining other aspects of the case to establish what happened.

Meanwhile, further shortcomings in the investigation have reportedly emerged. Investigative officials said several important steps had not been completed despite days having passed since the incident.

According to officials, geofencing of the crime scene has not yet been carried out. Geofencing could help investigators identify mobile devices that were present in or around the area at the relevant time.

Officials also said that Mir Raza’s mobile phone data had not been obtained. The phone record could potentially help investigators establish his movements and identify contacts or activities around the time of the incident.

Another issue raised by investigators concerns Mir Raza’s smartwatch. Officials said its forensic examination had also not been conducted. Such devices can sometimes contain information about movement, activity and other data that may assist an investigation.

The latest findings have added new elements to the case. Investigators are now expected to examine the forensic report along with other available evidence.

The police are also facing questions over why some investigative procedures were not carried out earlier. The family has previously called for a thorough investigation and answers about what happened to Mir Raza.

On July 17, petrol was priced at Rs. 310.71 per litre, while high-speed diesel was available at Rs. 323.30 per litre. As of July 29, petrol is being sold at Rs. 335.81 per litre, whereas diesel has climbed to Rs. 388.38 per litre, marking one of the steepest short-term increases in recent years. Although consumers witnessed two minor reductions in petrol prices during this period, the relief was limited. Petrol prices were cut by Rs. 0.35 per litre on July 21 and by Rs. 1.00 per litre on July 27. Diesel prices, however, have not been reduced since the daily pricing mechanism came into effect. International oil markets experienced a sustained upward trend after July 17, contributing to higher domestic fuel prices. However, between July 25 and July 28, global petroleum prices fell sharply, with reports indicating a decline of approximately 12% across major international benchmarks. Despite this significant drop in global prices, Pakistani consumers have not yet received any corresponding reduction at the pump. The absence of immediate relief has sparked concerns among motorists and businesses, particularly those heavily dependent on transportation and logistics, where fuel costs directly affect operating expenses. Economists note that lower international oil prices, if sustained, could create room for a reduction in domestic fuel prices in the coming days. Any adjustment, however, will depend on several factors, including exchange rate movements, government taxes and levies, freight costs, and the pricing formula adopted by the authorities. With inflation continuing to squeeze household budgets, many consumers are hoping the recent decline in global oil prices will soon translate into lower petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan, easing transportation costs and reducing pressure on the overall cost of living.

Faruqui questioned whether the government was giving sufficient importance to courts and due process. She also claimed that a large majority of reported child abuse cases had occurred in Punjab. The PPP leader questioned the effectiveness of governance in cities where children and vulnerable citizens do not feel safe. Another PPP leader, Shahla Raza, also accused the PML-N of manipulating the Azad Kashmir election process. Raza claimed that the PML-N had entered the elections expecting to secure around 12 seats. She alleged that irregularities were reported in several constituencies because the party feared an outcome similar to the political situation in Gilgit-Baltistan. Raza said the alleged incidents demonstrated serious concerns about the credibility of the electoral process. She claimed that the Election Commission had received 26 complaints before 1pm on election day. She also alleged that election-related material was taken from police personnel and that gunfire occurred during the incidents. Raza further claimed that a PPP member of the National Assembly was shot. The PPP leaders called for greater transparency in the electoral process. They also urged authorities to investigate complaints submitted during polling. PPP leader Palwasha Khan said her party remains an ally of the PML-N at the federal level. However, she stressed that the PPP would not remain silent if it believed that the government was taking an incorrect step. Khan said the president has constitutional powers regarding official summaries and can act according to the law. She made it clear that the PPP considers itself a political partner rather than a subordinate of the PML-N. She warned that the government could face difficulties in achieving its political objectives if it ignored concerns raised by its allies. The allegations have added to political tensions surrounding the Azad Kashmir elections. The PPP and PML-N are coalition partners at the federal level. However, differences between the two parties have emerged over the election process and political developments in Azad Kashmir.
