Former boxing star Prichard Colon dies at 33 after brain injury

Former professional boxer Prichard Colon, once regarded as one of boxing’s most promising young talents, has died at the age of 33, years after suffering a devastating brain injury during a fight.

Colon, who was born in Puerto Rico, sustained severe trauma during his October 2015 bout against American boxer Terrel Williams. The injury left him in a coma and ultimately brought a sudden and heartbreaking end to a career that had appeared destined for success.

Before the fight, Colon had built an impressive unbeaten record. He won all 16 of his professional bouts, including 13 victories by knockout, and had emerged as a rising name in the sport.

However, the contest against Williams changed his life forever. Following the bout, Colon required emergency brain surgery after doctors discovered the seriousness of his injuries. He later regained consciousness, but the neurological damage was severe.

Colon needed round-the-clock care for the remainder of his life and was unable to return to the professional career that had once promised so much.

His family had remained by his side throughout the difficult years. His father, Richard Colon, announced his son’s death on Facebook, expressing his sorrow while also saying that Prichard was now in a better place.

Colon had been living with his family in Florida, where he died.

His story has remained one of boxing’s most painful reminders of the risks fighters face inside the ring. His rapid rise, unbeaten record and promising future were abruptly overshadowed by a single fight and its devastating consequences.

For fans who followed his career, Colon’s legacy extends beyond his record. He will be remembered as a talented young boxer whose career was cut tragically short and whose long battle after his injury drew attention to the potentially life-changing dangers of combat sports.

Post-mortems find no torture signs in Lahore custodial deaths

LAHORE: Post-mortem examinations of two women who died while in police custody in Lahore have found no visible signs of physical torture or assault, according to detailed medical reports. The women, identified as Anmol and Amina, had been detained in connection with a theft-related case. They reportedly became seriously ill while in custody and were taken to hospital. Both later died. The post-mortem examinations were conducted after their deaths. A medical board reviewed the findings before finalising the reports. According to the reports, no external injuries or marks suggesting physical violence were found on either woman. However, medical examiners observed dark spots on the lungs of both women. Blood clots were also found in their hearts. The reports stated that the liver, kidneys and stomachs of both women appeared normal. Samples of blood and internal organs have been sent for histopathological analysis. The testing is expected to help determine the precise cause of death. The findings come as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths. A separate judicial inquiry has also been completed under the relevant provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The magistrate who conducted the inquiry inspected the bodies and reported that there was no apparent evidence of physical torture. However, the inquiry report did not establish the final medical cause of death. It stated that the definitive conclusion would depend on the post-mortem and forensic examination results. Police had earlier said the women became critically ill while being moved between police units. Officials had raised the possibility of drug use or poisoning. Police also alleged that the women had a history of drug use and that withdrawal or another medical complication could have contributed to their deteriorating condition. Investigators were also examining whether the women might have consumed a toxic substance before their arrest. The families have rejected these claims and demanded an independent investigation. Relatives said they were initially informed about the case and asked to arrange legal assistance before learning that the women had died. The circumstances surrounding their detention and deaths have therefore remained under scrutiny. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the police station. Videos reportedly show the women inside the premises shortly before their deaths. The footage is expected to help investigators establish their movements and condition while they were in custody. The families have also raised questions about the handling and transportation of the bodies after death.

Rs2.68bn loan default at Bank of Punjab raises rec…

An internal report has revealed that 268 borrowers have defaulted on loans worth more than Rs2.68 billion at the Bank of Punjab (BOP), raising questions about the recovery of outstanding loans at the province’s government-owned bank. According to the report, each of the 268 borrowers has outstanding liabilities exceeding Rs1 crore. The list reportedly includes individuals, firms and companies with significant loan defaults. Sources familiar with the matter claimed that some prominent political and business figures may also be included among the borrowers. However, the identities and details of the alleged defaulters have not been independently verified. The reported figures have renewed concerns over the bank’s loan recovery mechanisms and lending practices. Large loan defaults can affect a financial institution’s liquidity and its ability to extend credit to other customers, particularly when recovery remains delayed. The Bank of Punjab is a major government-owned financial institution in Punjab and conducts both commercial and government-related banking operations. The Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank is another state-owned financial institution, but its activities are primarily focused on the cooperative sector. Banking experts have called for stronger monitoring of large loans, improved recovery mechanisms and greater transparency in lending by state-owned banks. They say timely recovery of defaulted loans is essential to protect public resources and maintain confidence in the banking system. The report has also raised questions about the circumstances under which the loans were approved and the steps taken by the bank to recover the outstanding amounts. The Bank of Punjab management has so far not issued an official statement confirming or rejecting the figures contained in the report. Further verification of the reported list, including the identities of the borrowers and the status of recovery proceedings, would be necessary before any individual or company can be held responsible for the alleged defaults.

US judge dismisses bribery and fraud case against Gautam Adani despite procedural concerns

A US federal judge has formally dismissed criminal bribery and fraud charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, bringing an end to a high-profile prosecution while issuing a sharp rebuke over how the Department of Justice handled the case. US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis approved the Justice Department’s request to drop all charges with prejudice, permanently barring prosecutors from refiling the case. The decision closes an investigation launched in 2024 that accused Adani and senior executives of paying over $250 million in bribes to Indian officials to secure solar energy contracts while misleading American investors. In a 47-page order, Judge Garaufis voiced deep concern over procedural irregularities, noting that senior Justice Department official R. Trent McCotter negotiated the dismissal directly with Adani’s defence team without consulting the FBI agents and career prosecutors handling the investigation. The judge also scrutinized whether Adani’s public pledge to invest $10 billion in the United States and create 15,000 jobs influenced the outcome. While Garaufis ultimately concluded the investment promise did not legally dictate the government’s decision, he warned that the unusual handling of the case raised troubling questions about public perception of equal justice. The dismissal follows efforts by Adani’s legal team, led by prominent attorney Robert J. Giuffra Jr., who argued that much of the alleged conduct occurred outside US jurisdiction and no longer aligned with federal enforcement priorities. Adani, who maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, welcomed the ruling in a statement, expressing deep respect for the judicial process.

Permit documents reveal fresh details about Taylor…

Newly surfaced permit documents have offered fans a closer look at how Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce planned one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year. The superstar couple exchanged vows earlier this month during a lavish yet highly private ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While they have largely kept details of the celebration out of the public eye, official event permits have now revealed how carefully every aspect of the wedding was organized. According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the main wedding celebration began at 5 p.m. and continued until 4 a.m. the following morning. The permits also outlined a multi-day schedule, with an intimate rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 guests taking place the evening before the ceremony, followed by the larger wedding celebration attended by around 1,000 guests.  The paperwork also confirmed that extensive road closures were approved around Madison Square Garden to accommodate guest arrivals, security operations and event logistics. Several nearby streets were temporarily closed, while police officers and traffic personnel were deployed throughout the area to manage crowds and ensure the safety of attendees. The large-scale security operation reflected the extraordinary level of public interest surrounding the wedding.  The newly revealed documents also highlight just how much planning went into maintaining the couple’s privacy. Reports indicated that the event featured a strict no-phone policy, while guests and staff were asked to follow confidentiality measures designed to prevent photos or videos from leaking online. Those efforts appear to have been successful, as very few authentic images from the ceremony have surfaced since the celebration.  Preparations inside Madison Square Garden were equally impressive. Sources previously revealed that the iconic venue was transformed into an elegant wedding setting featuring custom décor, greenery, canopies and a specially designed reception space while preserving the arena’s unique character.  The wedding reportedly brought together family members, close friends and a long list of celebrity guests from the worlds of music, sports and entertainment. Despite its grand scale, those in attendance have largely respected the couple’s wishes for privacy, allowing Taylor and Travis to celebrate away from constant public attention.  The permit documents provide the clearest picture yet of how the high-profile celebration was executed. From carefully timed arrivals and extensive security measures to a multi-day schedule, every detail reflected meticulous planning. While fans remain eager to learn more about the wedding, the newly released documents show that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce prioritized one thing above all else: creating a memorable celebration that remained intimate despite the world’s attention.
