Gold rates decline by Rs1,000 per tola

Gold prices continued to fall in bullion markets across Pakistan on Wednesday. The latest decline provided some relief to buyers as local rates moved lower.

According to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association, the price of gold decreased by Rs1,000 per tola. The new price was recorded at Rs426,436 per tola.

The decline was also seen in the price of 10-gram gold. Its rate fell by Rs857. The price reached Rs365,600.

The latest reduction comes amid continued movement in gold prices in both local and international markets. Gold rates in Pakistan are influenced by global prices, currency movements and trends in the domestic bullion market.

The international market also recorded a decline. The price of gold fell by $10 per ounce and reached $4,040 per ounce.

The fall in international prices has also contributed to the downward movement in domestic gold rates. Local jewellers and traders closely monitor global prices when determining daily gold rates.

Gold remains a popular investment and savings option in Pakistan. Changes in its price can affect both investors and consumers planning to purchase jewellery.

The latest decline may offer some relief to customers who have been facing higher gold prices. However, market rates can change quickly depending on international developments and currency fluctuations.

Jewellers are expected to continue monitoring the international bullion market. Any major movement in global gold prices could have a direct impact on domestic rates in the coming days.

For now, the latest figures show a downward trend in gold prices in Pakistan. The per-tola rate has fallen by Rs1,000, while the price of 10 grams has declined by Rs857.

He said modernising the institutions and bringing them in line with contemporary requirements remained a key priority. Naqvi also asked the heads of all affiliated institutions to submit comprehensive two-year transformation plans for their respective organisations. He said the government aims to transform every institution under the Ministry of Interior along modern lines and improve its overall efficiency. “The goal is to make every institution under the Ministry of Interior exemplary and public-friendly,” Naqvi said, stressing the need to set clear targets and ensure their timely achievement to provide citizens with better facilities and quality services. The minister also highlighted the performance of the ministry’s institutions during the Hajj operation, noting that the absence of any reported drug-smuggling case during the operation reflected improved performance and stronger enforcement measures. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry also addressed the meeting and said a culture of poor performance had previously existed in federal institutions. He said the government had taken steps to change that mindset and was now focusing on target-based, result-oriented and performance-driven work. Chaudhry stressed that all institutions must focus on measurable outcomes, improve efficiency and work collectively to deliver better services to the public.

Mir Raza Ali, a resident of Karachi’s Pakistan Employees Cooperative Housing Society (PECHS), went missing on July 28 after leaving his home at around 4:09 a.m. in an online taxi. His body was found two days later in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police said the victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and his body was recovered in a severely deteriorated condition, indicating that it had remained at the location for some time before being discovered. Investigators have also revealed that all of Mir Raza Ali’s social media accounts were deactivated a day before his body was found, adding another element to the ongoing probe. Authorities are continuing to review CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and digital records as they work to determine the motive behind the killing and identify those responsible for the crime.

    KARACHI: Petrol pump dealers across Pakistan have announced an indefinite closure of fuel stations from August 15. The decision comes amid an ongoing strike by goods transporters. Talks between the government and transport representatives have failed to resolve their differences. The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association announced the decision on Tuesday after a meeting of representatives from different parts of the country. Association Chairman Malik Khuda Baksh said dealers had given the government 72 hours to address their concerns. He warned that petrol stations would remain closed until the dealers’ demands were accepted. The dealers are mainly seeking an increase in their commission on petrol sales. They are demanding an 8% margin on petrol, saying the existing rate is no longer sufficient to cover rising operating costs. Baksh said the association represents around 14,000 dealers and that members were under growing financial pressure. He said dealers had previously postponed their strike after receiving assurances from the government that their concerns would be addressed. According to the association, the government was given additional time to resolve the issue, but the deadline passed without a satisfactory outcome. The dealers had earlier agreed to delay a planned nationwide shutdown following talks with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. At the time, government representatives assured the dealers that their longstanding concerns would be considered. However, the latest announcement indicates that no final agreement has been reached. The dealers have also raised concerns over the mechanism used to determine fuel prices. They have called for greater clarity and timely implementation of decisions concerning petroleum margins. The announcement comes as the country’s goods transport sector remains affected by a separate strike. Transporters have continued their wheel-jam protest after talks with federal and provincial authorities failed to produce a breakthrough. Major mining operators, including Ivanhoe Mines, which runs the Kamoa-Kakula copper complex in partnership with Zijin Mining,indicated that domestic processing facilities, such as the on-site smelter and the Lualaba copper smelter in Kolwezi, process the majority of local yields. Analysts note that because the vast majority of Congolese copper and cobalt is already refined locally into cathodes and hydroxides prior to shipment, the new policy primarily aims to eliminate remaining concentrate exports while standardising royalty collections across trace mineral by-products.
