This change effectively upgrades their entry privileges and averts a feared full reversion to the visa-on-arrival system that would allow only fifteen days, require expensive fees, and possible imposing paperwork.

The decision comes after earlier moves to revoke the temporary 60-day visa-free scheme that had been extended to Indians and 92 other nationalities. While that broader 60-day exemption faced scrutiny over potential misuse and security concerns, the latest adjustment specifically benefits India by replacing what had become an expected visa-on-arrival requirement change with a straightforward 30-day visa exemption for tourism and short business purposes. Indian visitors typically stay an average of just 7.2 days, making the new 30-day allowance more than adequate for most trips without the added cost or paperwork of a visa on arrival.

This places India among a select group of six nationalities receiving enhanced privileges under the revised rules, alongside countries such as Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, and the Maldives. The overhaul also standardizes treatment for all European Union member states and trims the overall list of countries eligible for visa-free access.

The changes are to balance tourism promotion with better controls. By moving Indians to the 30-day visa-free category instead of keeping them on visa on arrival, Thai authorities hope to reverse the nearly 20 percent decline in Indian arrivals that followed the feared interim tightening of rules. The policy shows responsiveness to market feedback from a key growth demographic for Thai tourism and comes after a major pushback campaign on the change from Indian and tourism associations.

Importantly, the new measures are not immediate. They will take effect 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette. That exact date has not been announced as of press time. Until that publication occurs and the waiting period elapses, current entry practices largely continue, meaning most travelers are still experiencing the 60-day stamps on the ground amid the transitional phase. Foreign nationals who arrive before the revised rules activate will be permitted to complete their originally granted stay.

The Cabinet also announced complementary steps, including a 15-day visa-free option for a small number of countries and adjustments to visa-on-arrival access for others. Broader efforts to strengthen screening through the Thailand Digital Arrival Card system will accompany the updates.

For Indian travelers, this represents a net positive outcome. Instead of shifting to a paid, shorter visa-on-arrival process as some had worried, they will transition directly from the temporary 60-day exemption to a reliable 30-day visa-free entry once implemented. This should ease planning for holidays, family visits, and business trips while removing previous financial barriers.

Travelers are encouraged to keep an eye on official announcements from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs or embassies regarding the exact Gazette publication date. In the meantime, consulting with airlines and preparing standard supporting documents such as proof of onward travel and sufficient funds remains advisable, as immigration discretion always applies.

Overall, the move shows Thailand’s interest in sustaining tourism inflows from India while addressing administrative and security priorities. He reportedly became unconscious during the physical activity. Police officials immediately arranged an ambulance to take him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Ishaq was shifted to the hospital’s emergency department for medical assistance. However, doctors said that he had already died while being transported to the hospital. The young man could not be revived after reaching the medical facility. The incident occurred during the physical testing stage of the Islamabad Police recruitment process. The test requires candidates to take part in physical activities as part of the selection procedure. The sudden death of the young candidate has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, police have not yet provided further details about the exact cause of death.     Two tribal elders killed in South Waziristan

    Two tribal elders were shot dead by unidentified armed men in the Zarmilan area of Toi Khulla tehsil in Lower South Waziristan on Sunday, according to police District Police Officer (DPO) Shah Hassan identified the victims as Haji Gul and Malik Badshah, both members of the Suleman Khel tribe. Police said the two elders were travelling from Gul Kach towards Zarmilan when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle near Darozanda. Both men sustained multiple bullet wounds and died at the scene, while the attackers escaped. Police registered a preliminary case at Toi Khulla police station and launched an investigation. DPO Hassan said officers were examining all possible aspects of the incident and working to identify and arrest the suspects. The killings come amid growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Lower South Waziristan. The district has witnessed a rise in targeted killings, bomb attacks, kidnappings for ransom, extortion and attacks on police and security personnel over the past 18 months. Tribal elders and their relatives have increasingly become targets of violence. The trend has raised concerns about the safety of influential tribal figures, who have traditionally helped resolve disputes and maintain peace through jirgas and other local mechanisms. In May, prominent tribal elder and chief of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe, Malik Tariq Wazir, was among three people killed in an IED blast near Gulshan Plaza in Wana’s busy Rustam Bazaar. Four others suffered injuries in the explosion. Police said explosives had allegedly been planted near the plaza overnight and detonated in the morning as Malik Tariq passed through the market in a vehicle. He had also been abducted by armed men in December 2024 but was later released following efforts by tribal elders and local mediators.     Bilawal accuses PML-N of undermining Shehbaz

The third phase was originally scheduled for August 10 across the Poonch division. However, the AJK Election Commission has revised the schedule because of security concerns. Under the revised plan, polling on August 10 will be held only in Bagh and Haveli districts. Elections in Poonch district and Pallandri in Sudhnoti district have been postponed. The Election Commission said it took the decision after receiving a report from the AJK home secretary highlighting concerns about the law and order situation in parts of Poonch and Pallandri. The decision follows clashes between protesters and law enforcement personnel in Rawalakot on July 27, which reportedly resulted in several casualties. Tensions have persisted in Rawalakot since early June, with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) organising periodic protests and sit-ins. The group has been demanding the abolition of 12 seats in the AJK legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir.

    Death toll in Quetta coal mine blast rises to 34

    QUETTA: The death toll from a deadly coal mine explosion near Quetta has climbed to 34 after rescue teams recovered the bodies of eight more miners from the site. The incident occurred at a coal mine in the Sorange area, where dozens of workers were underground when a powerful methane gas explosion ripped through the mine. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a total of 42 miners were trapped following the blast. Rescue teams have managed to recover 34 bodies so far, while efforts continue to locate the remaining workers. Officials said the operation is being carried out under difficult conditions, with emergency personnel working around the clock to reach those still inside the mine. The mine owner confirmed that 42 labourers were present in the mine at the time of the explosion. Preliminary findings suggest that methane gas accumulated inside the mine, triggering the deadly blast. Balochistan Chief Minister has ordered an immediate report on the incident and directed authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. He warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible if negligence or safety violations are established. Coal mining accidents remain a recurring concern in Balochistan, where hazardous working conditions and poor safety standards have claimed numerous lives over the years.
