This change effectively upgrades their entry privileges and averts a feared full reversion to the visa-on-arrival system that would allow only fifteen days, require expensive fees, and possible imposing paperwork.

The decision comes after earlier moves to revoke the temporary 60-day visa-free scheme that had been extended to Indians and 92 other nationalities. While that broader 60-day exemption faced scrutiny over potential misuse and security concerns, the latest adjustment specifically benefits India by replacing what had become an expected visa-on-arrival requirement change with a straightforward 30-day visa exemption for tourism and short business purposes. Indian visitors typically stay an average of just 7.2 days, making the new 30-day allowance more than adequate for most trips without the added cost or paperwork of a visa on arrival.

This places India among a select group of six nationalities receiving enhanced privileges under the revised rules, alongside countries such as Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, and the Maldives. The overhaul also standardizes treatment for all European Union member states and trims the overall list of countries eligible for visa-free access.

The changes are to balance tourism promotion with better controls. By moving Indians to the 30-day visa-free category instead of keeping them on visa on arrival, Thai authorities hope to reverse the nearly 20 percent decline in Indian arrivals that followed the feared interim tightening of rules. The policy shows responsiveness to market feedback from a key growth demographic for Thai tourism and comes after a major pushback campaign on the change from Indian and tourism associations.

Importantly, the new measures are not immediate. They will take effect 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette. That exact date has not been announced as of press time. Until that publication occurs and the waiting period elapses, current entry practices largely continue, meaning most travelers are still experiencing the 60-day stamps on the ground amid the transitional phase. Foreign nationals who arrive before the revised rules activate will be permitted to complete their originally granted stay.

The Cabinet also announced complementary steps, including a 15-day visa-free option for a small number of countries and adjustments to visa-on-arrival access for others. Broader efforts to strengthen screening through the Thailand Digital Arrival Card system will accompany the updates.

For Indian travelers, this represents a net positive outcome. Instead of shifting to a paid, shorter visa-on-arrival process as some had worried, they will transition directly from the temporary 60-day exemption to a reliable 30-day visa-free entry once implemented. This should ease planning for holidays, family visits, and business trips while removing previous financial barriers.

Travelers are encouraged to keep an eye on official announcements from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs or embassies regarding the exact Gazette publication date. In the meantime, consulting with airlines and preparing standard supporting documents such as proof of onward travel and sufficient funds remains advisable, as immigration discretion always applies.

Overall, the move shows Thailand’s interest in sustaining tourism inflows from India while addressing administrative and security priorities.     Lahore – Scholarships worth more than Rs60 million have been announced for 500 students with students from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also benefiting from the scholarship program. According to details, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has arrived in Skardu with a scholarship initiative from the Punjab government for students of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Punjab Education Minister will distribute scholarships worth more than Rs60 million among around 500 students from seven educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan at a ceremony tomorrow. Speaking to the media, Rana Sikandar Hayat said that the Punjab government does not believe in any kind of discrimination in education. He said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif believes in providing equal educational opportunities to young people from all provinces. He said that under the Chief Minister Punjab’s Honhaar Scholarship Scheme, quotas have been allocated for students from all provinces and students from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are currently benefiting from the program. The provincial education minister announced that he would visit Azad Kashmir within the next few days to provide scholarships to its students as well. He said that every promise made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to the youth of Azad Kashmir would be fulfilled.
