Heavy rain disrupts traffic, floods low-lying area…

Heavy rainfall disrupted routine life across Lahore on Saturday, leaving several roads, underpasses and low-lying neighbourhoods inundated and causing difficulties for motorists and pedestrians.

The downpour led to significant water accumulation in different parts of the city, slowing traffic and making several routes difficult to navigate. Residents in low-lying areas faced particular inconvenience as rainwater gathered on streets and roads.

According to rainfall figures recorded by the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa), Lahore received an average of 24.6 millimetres of rain. The highest rainfall was recorded at Lahore Airport, where 104mm was reported.

Kahna received 75.6mm, while 62.6mm was recorded at Hadiara Defence Road and 58.6mm at Manawan. Rainfall was also recorded in Tajpura, Mughalpura, Shadipura, Defence Phase-VI, Farrukhabad, Saggian, Lakshmi Chowk, Chowk Nakhuda and other areas.

Although the rain provided relief from the prevailing heat and brought cooler weather, waterlogging created problems for commuters and once again highlighted the challenges faced by Lahore’s low-lying areas during heavy showers.

Wasa Lahore mobilised field teams and heavy machinery to remove accumulated water from affected locations. Officials continued drainage operations at several underpasses, major roads and low-lying points across the city.

Wasa Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed inspected drainage activities at several key locations, including Mubeen Shaheed Underpass, Noor Jehan Road, MM Alam Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Qaddafi Stadium and Liberty Chowk. He also reviewed operations at Kalma Chowk Underpass and other emergency drainage facilities.

Officials said disposal stations in areas affected by power outages were being operated with generators to ensure that drainage work continued without interruption.

Wasa Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmed also inspected water drainage arrangements at several locations, including Shalimar Link Road, Bhagwanpura, UET and nearby areas.

Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Officer Abdul Rahim Shirazi directed traffic officials to remain present in the field and closely monitor traffic flow and vulnerable points during the rainfall.

Traffic police coordinated with Wasa teams to facilitate the removal of standing water and advised motorists to drive carefully on slippery roads. Drivers were urged to maintain a safe distance, avoid sudden braking and reduce speed.

Motorcyclists were advised to wear helmets and avoid unnecessary overtaking. Citizens were also warned against entering roads where floodwater appeared deep or unsafe.

Man arrested for allegedly behaving inappropriatel…

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in North Carolina after allegedly urinating on a family of four during a Morgan Wallen concert in Maryland last month. According to a statement shared by Maryland Transportation Authority Police on Wednesday, August 12, Jason Reed was taken into custody in North Carolina. Authorities said the incident happened during Wallen’s concert at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore in July. Reed is facing a second-degree assault charge in connection with the alleged incident. The arrest follows  tuan investigation by Maryland authorities after the family reportedly became victims of inappropriate behavior during the country singer’s performance. Police said the incident involved Reed allegedly urinating on all four members of the family. The disturbing act reportedly occurred while the concert was underway, turning what should have been an enjoyable family outing into an upsetting experience. Authorities continued their investigation after the incident and eventually identified Reed as the person allegedly responsible. His arrest in North Carolina demonstrates that investigators continued pursuing the case even after the suspect had left Maryland. The Maryland Transportation Authority Police shared details of the arrest on social media, bringing attention to the case. Officials did not indicate that the incident was connected to Wallen or his performance itself. Large concerts often attract thousands of fans, making crowd behavior and public safety an important concern for law enforcement. While most concertgoers attend to enjoy the music, incidents involving disruptive or inappropriate behavior can quickly affect other members of the audience. The alleged incident also highlights the challenges families can face at crowded events. Parents attending concerts with children generally expect to enjoy the experience in a safe and respectful environment. Reed’s arrest does not mean he has been found guilty. The allegations remain accusations, and the case will proceed through the legal system. A second-degree assault charge can carry significant legal consequences if a defendant is ultimately convicted. Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen continues his highly successful country music career, with his concerts drawing large crowds across the United States. For the family involved, however, the Maryland concert is likely to be remembered for an entirely different reason. What began as a night of live music and family entertainment allegedly ended with an uncomfortable encounter and a police investigation. As the legal process moves forward, authorities will determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the appropriate outcome of the charges against Reed.

Elizabeth Olsen makes rare appearance with newborn in Los Angeles

Elizabeth Olsen has made a rare public appearance with her newborn child in Los Angeles, weeks after reports emerged that the actress had quietly welcomed her first baby. The WandaVision star was spotted taking a walk in Los Angeles on August 15. She appeared to be enjoying a relaxed outing with her newborn son while being accompanied by her partner, Robbie Arnett. Olsen kept a low profile during the outing. She wore a wide-brimmed hat and appeared to take precautions to keep the baby protected from the sun. Arnett was seen walking alongside her as the family spent time outdoors. The appearance comes around two months after reports surfaced that Olsen was expecting her first child. The actress had not publicly announced her pregnancy at the time. Neither Olsen nor Arnett has officially confirmed details surrounding the baby’s arrival. The couple has also kept information about the child’s name, gender and birth date private. The latest photographs are therefore being viewed as the strongest public indication that the couple has welcomed their first child. Olsen has previously spoken about the possibility of becoming a mother. In a 2021 conversation with SiriusXM, she discussed the challenge of balancing her acting career with the possibility of having children. The actress also recalled speaking with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about how pregnancy could affect her professional commitments while working in the entertainment industry. In December 2025, Olsen reportedly reflected on motherhood and marriage during a podcast appearance. She said she had once been uncertain about whether she wanted to get married or have children. Her relationship with Arnett eventually influenced how she viewed those possibilities. Olsen and Arnett have maintained a notably private relationship. The couple began dating in 2017 and became engaged in 2019. They later married privately before the COVID-19 pandemic, with Olsen eventually confirming the marriage during interviews. The couple has generally avoided putting their personal life in the spotlight. They have preferred spending private time together rather than frequently appearing at public events.

PM Shehbaz orders expansion of digital services fo…

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expand digital consular services for overseas Pakistanis, improve facilities at Pakistani missions abroad, simplify the complaints system and speed up the digitization of document attestation and official transactions. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the directives came during a meeting chaired by the prime minister in which officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistani ambassadors serving in various countries, and senior representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Investigation Agency, the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments briefed him on ongoing reform efforts. Shehbaz said overseas Pakistanis represent a valuable asset for the country and that providing them with every possible facility remains a top government priority. Officials told the meeting that a QR code system has already been rolled out to simplify procedures for power of attorney, property transactions and document attestation for Pakistanis living abroad. The prime minister welcomed the initiative and directed authorities to prominently display the QR codes at Pakistani embassies and missions worldwide to improve access to the digital complaints registration system. Shehbaz also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to launch a dedicated awareness campaign encouraging overseas Pakistanis to use the QR code based system when filing complaints. The meeting was told that the ministry has recently introduced an evening shift at its Islamabad office to make services more accessible to citizens, and that document attestation services have also been launched at the Asaan Khidmat Centre in Islamabad. Officials further reported that the ministry has introduced courier based attestation services and linked its verification system with databases maintained by the Higher Education Commission, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission, the National Database and Registration Authority and the National Police Bureau, a step that has significantly cut processing times. The meeting also heard that the apostille system has reduced document attestation to a single step process. Officials said work is now underway to fully digitize the system, with the National Information Technology Board developing a mobile application that would allow digital verification of documents including birth and death certificates, marriage registration certificates and family registration certificates, among other official records. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attended the meeting alongside federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State Awn Chaudhry, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa and other senior officials. The push to digitize consular services reflects a broader effort by the government to modernize public sector delivery and reduce bureaucratic delays, an initiative that has gained momentum in recent years as authorities look to integrate various state databases and cut down on the paperwork burden faced by citizens both at home and abroad.

Karachi petroleum dealers consider options as dispute over strike call looms

Plans for a nationwide closure of petrol pumps entered a new phase after dealers in Karachi refrained from immediately supporting a shutdown call issued by petrol pump owners. The Petrol Pump Owners Association had instructed fuel outlets to close across the country from midnight following inconclusive negotiations with Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik. However, the Karachi Petroleum Dealers Association did not move to align with the closure order due to disagreements between the two bodies. To address the situation, the Petroleum Dealers Association scheduled an executive committee meeting to consult with counterparts across Pakistan and evaluate the seven-day deadline set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA). The meeting’s outcome will decide whether the association proceeds with a nationwide strike or pursues alternative methods of protest. The Petroleum Dealers Association stated that the government has requested an additional week to resolve outstanding demands and assured dealers that its concerns will be addressed. The association noted that it will consider the government’s request during its internal consultations and formally communicate its final strategy to OGRA and relevant state authorities.
