How far can you drive after low fuel light comes on?

If you fail to keep an eye on your fuel level while driving, your car could eventually come to a stop. When a car is about to run out of fuel, a warning indicator commonly known as the low fuel light illuminates on the dashboard.

But how far can you actually drive once this light comes on? The answer can be useful if there isn’t a fuel station nearby. However, there is no single answer as it depends on several factors including the car’s make and model, model year, driving habits, fuel efficiency and road conditions.

According to experts, once the low fuel warning light turns on, the vehicle cannot travel very far. The good news, however, is that it can usually go farther than many people expect.

Experts say the warning light typically comes on when the fuel tank has around 10 to 15 percent of its capacity remaining. On average, small cars can travel about 20 to 30 miles (32–48 km) after the light comes on while larger vehicles may cover up to 50 miles (80 km).

However, if the vehicle is old or the road conditions are poor, the remaining driving range may be significantly shorter. Cold weather can also increase fuel consumption reducing the distance the car can travel after the warning light appears.

Experts further caution that continuing to drive for an extended period after the low fuel light comes on may damage the engine although driving a few additional miles is generally unlikely to cause any harm.

The retrospective marks several crucial series and individual masterpieces that define Kollwitz’s career. Early landmark series included A Weaver’s Revolt (1890s) and Peasant War (1902–1908). They showed her skill in capturing collective resistance, class struggle, and the violent fallout of peasant rebellions. Her works like Woman with Dead Child (1903) and her recurring depictions of mothers shielding their young. This theme is also dominant in her famous Mütter (Mothers) lithographs. These works demonstrate her ability to channel deep personal empathy into universal symbols of protective instinct. Kollwitz produced woodcuts and sculptural works that transformed personal bereavement into universal anti-war statements. She was distilling the excruciating grief of losing her younger son, Peter, during World War I. Kollwitz’s artistic contributions extend far beyond historical interest. Kollwitz established herself as a genius of Expressionist printmaking. As a result, she achieved widespread international acclaim during her lifetime. More importantly, she radically prioritized the female experience, framing motherhood, domestic hardship. She expressed grief not as passive domestic occurrences, but as central, powerful forces within history and politics. Above all, she achieved all that during an era when the international art world was almost exclusively governed by male perspectives, MoMA exhibition underscores the artist’s meticulous process through rare working proofs and preliminary studies.   • How breakfast supports children’s mental health

    Health experts say that starting the day with a healthy breakfast is important for children’s energy growth and mental development.  However many children go to school without eating anything in the morning. This habit can affect their health mood and studies. Skipping breakfast is common among school going children. Some children do not feel hungry in the morning while others leave home without eating because they are in a hurry. Experts warn that this routine can lead to tiredness low energy poor concentration and irritability. According to Health line it is not only important what children eat for breakfast but also where and how they eat it.  Research suggests that regularly skipping breakfast or having breakfast outside the home may be linked to a higher risk of emotional and behavioral problems among children and teenagers. A spanish national health survey collected information from parents and guardians of 3,772 children between the ages of 4 and 14.  The study looked at their breakfast habits as well as their mental well being self esteem mood and anxiety levels. The findings showed that eating breakfast outside the home could have negative effects similar to skipping breakfast completely.  Experts believe that a balanced home prepared breakfast can support children’s physical growth as well as their mental and emotional well being. A nutritious breakfast may also help improve children’s memory attention and ability to learn.  These benefits can make it easier for them to stay focused in class and perform better at school. Experts advise parents to plan breakfast in advance if mornings are busy.  Some foods can even be prepared the night before. Most importantly parents should try not to send children to school on an empty stomach as a healthy breakfast can help them stay active, focused and ready to learn throughout the day.

  • Better Facilities in Turbat’s Hospitals

    Hani Rasheed  Turbat urgently needs better healthcare facilities. Although some improvements have been made, many patients still face shortages of medicines, medical equipment, and specialist doctors. Poor families often have to travel to other cities for treatment which is costly and difficult. Access to quality healthcare is a basic right and should be available to everyone. The authorities should ensure that hospitals are fully equipped, essential medicines are available, and qualified doctors and staff are appointed. Better healthcare services will reduce the suffering of patients and improve the well-being of the people of Turbat.

  • Remembering Maryam Mirzakhani

    When Maryam Mirzakhani approached complex mathematical problems, she did not rush to find immediate solutions. Instead, she unrolled large sheets of paper across her floor, sat down with markers, and drew intricate shapes, loops, and abstract surfaces. A ritual so visual that her young daughter described her rigorous research simply as painting. Behind those quiet, methodical sketches was one of the most brilliant mathematical minds of her generation. A scholar whose work reshaped our understanding of spatial geometry and dynamic systems forever. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, Mirzakhani’s early childhood ambitions centered on literature rather than numbers. She devoured books and dreamed of writing novels. However, during her high school years, her focus shifted dramatically as she discovered the creative, puzzle-like nature of advanced mathematics. Her extraordinary talent surfaced on the world stage when she represented Iran at the International Mathematical Olympiad, winning gold medals in back-to-back years at ages 17 and 18, including a flawless top score in her second appearance. After completing her undergraduate studies at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Mirzakhani moved to the United States to pursue graduate research. At Harvard University, under the mentorship of Fields Medalist Curtis McMullen, she tackled complex problems in theoretical geometry that had baffled researchers for decades. She earned her PhD at age 27, producing a doctoral dissertation so groundbreaking that it yielded multiple papers published in top-tier mathematical journals. Her career progressed rapidly, leading to a full professorship at Stanford University by the age of 31. Mirzakhani’s work specialized in theoretical areas such as hyperbolic geometry, Riemann surfaces, and moduli spaces. She’s expert in abstract concepts that involve understanding the geometry and dynamic possibilities of complex curved surfaces. While her research was firmly rooted in pure mathematics, it held profound implications for theoretical physics, quantum field theory and cryptography. In 2014, at the age of 37, Mirzakhani achieved a historical milestone. She was awarded the Fields Medal, officially known as the International Medal for Outstanding Discoveries in Mathematics. Widely regarded as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for mathematics, the honor is presented only once every four years to exceptional scholars under 40. Mirzakhani became both the first woman and the first Iranian ever to receive the award since its establishment in 1936. Despite national and international acclaim, Mirzakhani remained famously modest. She often referred to herself as a slow mathematician. She emphasized that true insight comes from patience, resilience, and a willingness to feel lost before finding a breakthrough. To her, mathematics was not about fast calculations, but about deep, enduring understanding. Tragically, her life was cut short. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, she continued her scholarly pursuits while fighting the disease. By 2016, the cancer had spread to her liver and bones. On July 14, 2017, Mirzakhani passed away at Stanford Hospital at the age of 40. Her passing sparked widespread tributes across the globe, with academic institutions, world leaders, and fellow scientists celebrating her contributions. Today, her legacy endures as a testament to human curiosity. Her life is an enduring inspiration for women pursuing careers in science and mathematics worldwide.    

  • Robot dogs take over night security

    As artificial  intelligence enters more parts of daily life even security jobs are beginning to change. In Atlanta robotic dogs are now being used to guard homes and residential areas  at night. According to foreign media reports the new system has been introduced at residential complexes in the US city of Atlanta where robotic dogs have replaced human guards for night patrols. Equipped with cameras sensors and AI technology the robot dogs move around the complexes and monitor their surroundings. They can detect unusual or suspicious activity while human operators control and monitor them from a distance. At first some residents found the robots unusual but they have gradually become  familiar with them.  Residents say the robots provide a new layer of security and may help reduce crime in the area. With AI developing rapidly robotic security could become more common in homes apartment buildings streets and shopping areas in the future.

  • Algorithmic moderation and the shadow-ban dilemma

    By Raheel Waqar I attended a workshop under the project titled “Digital Trust and Free Expression in the AI Era” at the Department of Media and Development Communication, University of the Punjab, supported by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) last week. During the discussions on digital trust, I remembered that a few months ago, I received a call from a friend who is a small business owner and runs a modest page selling handcrafted candles. She told me that her posts had suddenly stopped getting reaching people. No warning. No explanation. Her engagement dropped overnight, and when she contacted the platform, she received a flat, nonanswer. She wasn’t banned. She wasn’t warned. She was just… quieter. That is essentially the shadow-ban dilemma, and I believe it is one of the least discussed problems of trust in the age of AI. There is a reason for algorithmic moderation exists. The volume of content shared on a platform daily is far too large to be managed by humans alone. AI systems can now detect hate speech, misinformation, spam, and harassment faster than an entire team of human moderators. Theoretically, this creates a safer and more livable Internet. But where I differ from current structure is that moderation operates as black box, and the worst offender is shadow banning, silently restricting a user without informing them. If a platform explicitly rejects you, you can appeal, argue, or move on. Shadow-banning removes even the most basic dignity. You face punishment without knowing the charges; you are not shown the evidence and are rarely given any avenues for reclamation. I genuinely believe that trust is the digital currency. We bring our voices, our business, and our relationships to these platforms, expecting something close to a level playing field, even if imperfect. Shadow-banning violates that implied contract. It assumes the rules are clear while relying opaque algorithms, and doubt becomes corrosive. Users begin to question each drop in engagement. Was it the algorithm? Was it just a bad week? Did I say something wrong? This uncertainty leads to confusion and self-censorship, which is not healthy foundation for a digital public square. Moreover, the phenomenon of shadow-banning disproportionately effects those without influence, legal support, or the media visibility. A major creator, with millions of followers, may get a quick, individualized explanation when something goes wrong. My friend, the candle-seller, heard nothing. This imbalance is significant if free expression online is to be practiced, not not merely discussed — by everyone. I don’t believe that the solution is to eliminate moderation entirely. The combination of harassment, spam, and bad-faith users who overwhelm others makes a total freeforall unusable within minutes. As anyone who has used an unmoderated platform knows how quickly it becomes impossible to navigate when spam and abuse take over. When people are constantly shouted down, free expression is not free. However, there is a difference between moderation and invisible moderation. Platforms can reduce the reach of harmful content without disrespecting or degrading the users by withholding explanations. The technology to notify users already exists. What is missing is the will. In my own re-design of this system, three principles would guide it: A user should be notified, not in a lucky screenshot of a “test” a month later, but in a clear, timely notice to explain the general reason that their content or reach is being limited. It is not theatre; it is meaningful appeal. Many platforms claim to offer appeals, but these are often routed to another algorithm or a human who skims for a few seconds. Real appeal is a true second look with actual power to correct an error. Not all infractions are equal and deserve the same silence and indefinite containment. It is not the same as coordinated harassment campaigns; it is not borderline, or an honest mistake, or satire. There is nothing impossible for this. It is a matter of priorities. Transparency costs platforms something; it exposes them to scrutiny and disagreement. I am not opposed to algorithmic moderation. Used responsibly, it can make the internet more habitable space for all, particularly for those who are disproportionately targeted by harassment and abuse. However, moderation that is not transparent is not safety; it is control disguised as safety. In a world where artificial intelligence systems increasingly decide who is heard and who is quietly muted, we must hold these systems accountable for their explanations. Platforms that merely claim that they know how to handle moderation, do not build trust. Trust is constructed by showing their work. Shadow-banning is not just a technical issue; it is a question of what kind of digital public square we want to inhabit and whether we will insist on honest, accountable moderation.
