‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ sequel confirmed

LOS ANGELES: Fans of the popular romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days have reason to celebrate as a sequel to the 2003 film is officially moving forward, more than two decades after the original became a rom-com favourite.

The upcoming project is being developed by Paramount Pictures, with actress Kate Hudson, who played the lead character in the original movie, attached as a producer.

Details about the sequel are currently being kept under wraps. The storyline has not been revealed, and no official cast announcement has been made so far.

However, there is growing speculation that Hudson and Matthew McConaughey could return to their famous roles as Andie Anderson and Benjamin Berry. Neither actor has officially confirmed a return at this stage.

The original film centred on Andie Anderson, a journalist working for Composure magazine. She takes on an unusual assignment to write an article explaining how a woman could make a man end a relationship within 10 days.

Her target is Benjamin Berry, an advertising executive who becomes involved with her without knowing the real reason behind her behaviour.

Benjamin, meanwhile, has his own secret challenge. He makes a bet that he can make Andie fall in love with him within the same period.

Their competing plans lead to a series of misunderstandings, romantic moments and comedic situations. The film eventually turns into a genuine love story despite both characters initially having hidden motives.

McConaughey’s casting was reportedly not straightforward. Hudson previously revealed that the studio did not initially consider him the obvious choice for the male lead.

She said she pushed for McConaughey because she believed the two actors had the right chemistry for the film.

Hudson later explained that she wanted to work with him because they had a competitive energy and could challenge each other on screen. She credited his commitment and focused approach to acting as important factors behind their successful pairing.

Her decision proved successful. The chemistry between Hudson and McConaughey became one of the film’s biggest attractions and helped turn the movie into one of the better-known romantic comedies of the early 2000s.

McConaughey has also spoken positively about the film years after its release. He has described it as one of his favourite romantic comedies and said its popularity has continued to benefit him financially.

The actor previously joked that the movie remains his biggest source of so-called “mailbox money”, referring to the continuing income he receives from its popularity and repeated screenings.

Directed by Donald Petrie, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was a commercial success when it reached cinemas in 2003.

The film was made on a reported budget of around $50 million and earned nearly $180 million worldwide.

Over the years, the movie has developed a strong following and become a staple of the romantic-comedy genre.

The announcement of a sequel has therefore generated considerable interest among fans who have long wanted to see what happened to Andie and Benjamin after the events of the original film.

For now, Paramount has not disclosed the sequel’s release date, storyline or confirmed cast. Any return by Hudson and McConaughey will depend on official confirmation from the studio and the actors

Pakistan faces critical shortage of warehouse faci…

Pakistan’s healthcare system is facing a significant logistical challenge, as the country lacks a dedicated warehouse to store emergency medicines and medical kits supplied for disease outbreaks and public health emergencies, according to sources within the Ministry of National Health Services. The revelation has raised concerns about the country’s preparedness to manage essential medical supplies, particularly those intended for large-scale disease prevention and treatment programs. Health Ministry sources disclosed that Pakistan does not even have a designated warehouse for storing medicines purchased under the country’s Hepatitis C elimination initiative. The absence of proper storage facilities has forced health authorities to rely on temporary arrangements that fall short of standard warehousing requirements. According to officials, the District Health Office (DHO) in Islamabad has converted parking areas into makeshift storage rooms to accommodate the growing stockpile of medicines and medical supplies. Temporary structures and storage racks have been installed to protect the supplies until a permanent solution becomes available. While the emergency arrangement has helped address immediate storage needs, officials acknowledge that it is not a long-term replacement for a purpose-built medical warehouse designed to safely store pharmaceutical products and emergency health equipment. The shortage of storage space has become even more pressing following the arrival of hundreds of medical kits donated by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Ministry sources said the UN agency recently supplied 742 Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) and Family Planning kits to support Pakistan’s maternal and reproductive healthcare services. However, authorities are struggling to find adequate space to safely store the newly received supplies, creating additional logistical challenges for the health sector. Officials also revealed that medicines for approximately 1.6 million patients have already been procured under the Prime Minister’s Hepatitis C Elimination Programme. The large-scale procurement is intended to strengthen Pakistan’s campaign against one of the country’s most widespread infectious diseases, but the lack of dedicated storage infrastructure threatens to complicate distribution and inventory management. Health Ministry sources explained that temporary storage rooms were established in 2023, when additional racks and shelving units were installed to accommodate the increasing volume of medicines. These facilities were developed as an interim solution until permanent warehouse infrastructure could be built. Despite these efforts, experts believe that the growing number of medical supplies and emergency response materials requires modern storage facilities equipped with appropriate environmental controls, inventory management systems, and security measures to ensure the quality and effectiveness of medicines. Responding to concerns, Islamabad District Health Officer Dr. Rashida said that the medicines currently being stored in the temporary facilities are not deteriorating or losing their effectiveness. She maintained that health officials are taking the necessary precautions to preserve the supplies under existing conditions. At the same time, Dr. Rashida acknowledged the urgent need for a dedicated warehouse and confirmed that letters have been sent to development partners requesting support for the establishment of proper storage infrastructure. The shortage highlights broader challenges within Pakistan’s public healthcare system, where expanding disease-control programmes and increasing international assistance have outpaced the development of essential logistics and storage capacity. Health officials hope that with support from development partners and international organizations, permanent warehouse facilities can be established to strengthen the country’s ability to respond to public health emergencies and ensure the safe storage and timely distribution of life-saving medicines and medical supplies.

Audiences often attended screenings dressed as characters from the movie, helping turn the production into one of cinema’s most enduring cult classics. Curry first played Dr. Frank N. Furter in the original London stage production of The Rocky Horror Show in 1973. He later reprised the role for the film adaptation, appearing alongside Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick. Curry appeared in numerous films, frequently playing villains or eccentric characters. His credits included Clue, Legend, Annie, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, The Three Musketeers, The Shadow, Muppet Treasure Island and Charlie’s Angels. His career extended well beyond cinema. He worked on numerous animated productions for film and television and won a Daytime Emmy Award in 1991 for his voice performance in Peter Pan & the Pirates. The actor became particularly associated with flamboyant and larger-than-life villains. His distinctive laugh, expressive face and commanding voice allowed him to bring a memorable theatrical quality to even supporting roles. Despite appearing in some critically unsuccessful productions, Curry remained candid about his career. He occasionally acknowledged his weaker performances with humour and continued to embrace challenging and unusual roles. Born on April 19, 1946, in Grappenhall, Cheshire, Curry studied drama at Birmingham University before pursuing a career in theatre. His career was affected by health problems later in life. He withdrew from a British stage production in 2011 because of ill health. Despite these challenges, Curry continued working in entertainment. He returned to the big screen in 2024 with an appearance in the horror film Stream. Curry was also a singer and composer. He performed with his own rock band and released several albums during his career. He lived in Los Angeles and never married or had children.

Homenet Pakistan urges protection of democratic ma…

Lahore, July 2026: HomeNet Pakistan, in partnership with AwazCDS/PDA, organized a high-level policy dialogue with Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs), including members of the Standing Committee on Local Government, to discuss legislative reforms aimed at promoting a stronger, more inclusive, and constitutionally compliant local government system in Punjab. The dialogue brought together parliamentarians, civil society representatives, and governance experts to exchange views on the future of local governance and explore ways to strengthen democratic institutions at the grassroots level. The session focused on ensuring political continuity, enhancing public participation, and improving the effectiveness of elected local governments.   Opening the event, Mr. Zia ur Rehman, Chief Executive of AwazCDS-Pakistan, highlighted the constitutional importance of Article 140A, which requires the devolution of political, administrative, and financial authority to elected local governments. He stressed that an effective local government system is essential for democratic governance and improved public service delivery. He urged the Punjab Assembly to introduce legal and institutional reforms that would safeguard democratic continuity, ensure the timely conduct of local government elections, and strengthen the autonomy of elected local bodies.   During the session, Ms. Ume Laila Azhar, Executive Director of HomeNet Pakistan, presented a set of policy recommendations designed to reinforce democratic governance at the local level. She emphasized the need for a stable and party-based electoral framework for local governments, noting that frequent legislative changes have weakened institutional continuity. She referred to the replacement of the Punjab Local Government Act 2022 with the Punjab Local Government Act 2025 as an example of policy shifts that have contributed to delays in restoring elected local governments across the province. She called for legal safeguards to prevent repeated delimitations and unnecessary postponements of local government elections. HomeNet Pakistan also recommended a transparent and representative mechanism for filling reserved seats allocated to women, youth, minorities, workers, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. According to the organization, such measures would promote broader democratic participation and ensure that local governments better reflect the diversity of society.   In addition, the organization emphasized the importance of returning key municipal responsibilities—including water supply, sanitation, solid waste management, and local infrastructure development—to elected local governments. It proposed that provincial and district administrations should primarily provide technical guidance and institutional support rather than directly managing these essential services. The dialogue was attended by Ms. Sumbal Malik Hussain, Ms. Fizzah Maimona Rao, Ms. Somia Atta, Ms. Rukhsana Kausar, Ms. Farzana Abbas, Ms. Nasreen Riaz, and Ms. Attia Hanif, alongside representatives from civil society organizations and governance experts. Responding to the recommendations, the participating MPAs appreciated the constructive engagement and acknowledged the importance of strengthening democratic local governance. They reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to transparency, institutional reforms, and democratic accountability, expressing confidence that these principles would continue to guide the ongoing local government reform process. The parliamentarians informed participants that the delimitation process had made substantial progress, with geographical boundaries largely finalized. They stated that the remaining objections were expected to be addressed by the end of July 2026. Following the completion of the statutory process, they expressed optimism that the election schedule would be announced, paving the way for timely local government elections. The MPAs also committed to sharing the recommendations emerging from the dialogue with the Honorable Speaker of the Punjab Assembly and pledged to advocate for legislative reforms that promote constitutional compliance, political continuity, and an empowered local government system capable of responding effectively to citizens’ needs. Concluding the event, HomeNet Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with parliamentarians, government institutions, and civil society partners to advance democratic governance, strengthen inclusive representation, and support the timely restoration of empowered elected local governments across Punjab.

Mahira Khan faces backlash over Gaza fundraiser appearance

LONDON: Pakistani actor Mahira Khan has faced criticism on social media after attending a fundraising event in London in support of Palestinians affected by the Gaza crisis. Khan appeared at the event in a peach outfit by designer Saniya Maskatiya. Videos and pictures from the gathering quickly circulated online. Many people praised the actor’s appearance and her interaction with attendees. However, some social media users questioned her participation in the event. Critics focused on Khan’s previous associations with international brands. Some users referred to her work with L’Oréal and Pepsi while discussing her public support for Palestine. They questioned whether her commercial endorsements were consistent with her stance on the Gaza crisis. The format of the event also attracted criticism. Some users felt that the gathering appeared to focus partly on Khan’s career and public image rather than concentrating entirely on humanitarian fundraising. Videos from the event showed Khan engaging with guests and discussing different aspects of her professional life. She also participated in activities on stage. These moments prompted mixed reactions online. Some users argued that a humanitarian event should remain focused on the suffering of Palestinians and efforts to support those affected by the conflict. Others defended Khan’s participation. They said celebrities can use their public platforms to raise awareness and support humanitarian causes. The debate has also highlighted wider questions about celebrity activism. Many public figures support humanitarian campaigns while maintaining commercial partnerships with major international companies. Social media users often scrutinise these relationships. The discussion can become particularly intense when the causes involve politically sensitive international conflicts. Khan has remained an influential figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. She has built a large following through her television and film projects. Her public appearances also regularly attract significant attention. Her fashion choices, professional projects and social activities frequently become topics of discussion online. The latest controversy is therefore not limited to her appearance at the London fundraiser. It has also sparked a broader debate about the responsibilities of celebrities who publicly support humanitarian causes. Supporters believe Khan’s presence can help draw attention to the Palestinian cause. Critics, meanwhile, want greater consistency between celebrity activism and commercial endorsements.

Chris Evans shares good reason to prioritize his w…

Chris Evans has opened up about the major shift in his perspective on acting, explaining why he has become far more selective about the projects he chooses to take on. The actor, best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has previously spoken about how fame and the demands of Hollywood affected his personal life. Over time, Evans said he learned that simply staying busy was not enough. The work itself needed to feel meaningful. In a recent discussion about his career, Evans explained that filmmaking requires an enormous level of commitment. From preparation and filming to post-production and promotion, a project can consume months of a person’s life. Because of that, he now believes a role needs to be something he genuinely cares about rather than an opportunity he accepts simply because it is available. (Vanity Fair) That mindset represents a significant change from earlier in his career. Evans previously admitted that he became increasingly anxious in his late 20s as his career grew. He questioned whether Hollywood was bringing him closer to the person he wanted to become or pushing him further away from himself. Those concerns became particularly important when he was considering the role of Captain America. (GQ) Although the role ultimately transformed his career, Evans has never treated acting as something he must do constantly. After completing his Marvel commitments, he took a step back from Hollywood and spent more time away from the intense pressure surrounding blockbuster filmmaking. His approach has also influenced the way he views new projects. Evans has said that directing taught him just how demanding the filmmaking process can be. After directing Before We Go, he realized that a project requires a strong emotional connection to remain fulfilling throughout the long production process. (Vanity Fair) That lesson appears to have shaped his choices today. Evans recently returned to the Marvel universe for Avengers: Doomsday, but his comeback was not something he agreed to immediately. He revealed that Marvel presented him with numerous ideas over several years, but none felt right until the latest opportunity came together. He said he wanted to protect what Captain America meant to him rather than return simply because fans wanted it. (Geo News) His decision highlights a broader change in the actor’s priorities. Evans no longer appears interested in filling his schedule simply to remain visible. Instead, he wants his time and energy to go toward stories that genuinely excite him. For the actor, prioritizing work does not necessarily mean working more. It means choosing better. After years of enormous success, Evans seems comfortable with saying no and waiting for the right opportunity. His career may now move at a slower pace, but his latest perspective suggests that he values purpose, personal happiness and meaningful creative work more than simply being everywhere at once.

Lahore police station assault case sparks mass sus…

Lahore: A shocking alleged sexual assault inside Lahore’s Ghaziabad Police Station has triggered the suspension of the entire station staff, including the Station House Officer (SHO), as authorities investigate the incident. According to police officials, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran allegedly brought a young woman to the police station on the pretext of questioning her. Her family had gone to the police station to report her missing but were informed during the process that she had already returned. Following the allegations, the accused ASI was arrested, while the investigation in-charge was also suspended.
