TEHRAN: Iran’s acting Defence Minister, Seyed Majid Ibn al-Reza, has declared that Tehran will continue strengthening its military capabilities by treating every threat from its adversaries as genuine, even as the United States signals a renewed diplomatic effort.

His remarks came after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington had postponed a planned military strike against Iran in favour of restarting negotiations aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement posted on social media platform X on Monday, Ibn al-Reza said Iran viewed recent statements from its enemies as part of a broader campaign of psychological and cognitive warfare. However, he stressed that Tehran would not dismiss any warning, regardless of its nature.

“We consider every threat to be real and deserving of a serious response,” the acting defence minister said, adding that Iran’s strategy was to transform every external challenge into an opportunity to reinforce its military preparedness and national defence.

He said the Iranian armed forces would neither be caught off guard nor remain passive in the face of rising regional tensions. Instead, every warning or hostile statement would serve as a catalyst for expanding the country’s defensive capabilities and maintaining operational readiness.

The comments underscore Iran’s continued emphasis on deterrence at a time when uncertainty surrounds the future of US-Iran relations and broader security dynamics across the Gulf.

Earlier, President Trump announced that the United States had suspended plans for military action against Iran after requests from Tehran and several Middle Eastern countries to give diplomacy another chance.

Writing on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump claimed the US military had been fully prepared for an operation of unprecedented scale, describing it as one of the largest potential military actions since the Second World War.

According to Trump, the proposed negotiations focus on two key objectives: ensuring the immediate and uninterrupted reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for global shipping and addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes, carrying a significant share of global oil exports. Any disruption in the waterway has the potential to affect international energy markets and regional stability.

While Washington has presented the renewed talks as an opportunity to prevent further escalation, Iranian officials continue to insist that the country will not relax its military vigilance during the diplomatic process.

The latest exchange of statements reflects the delicate balance between diplomacy and deterrence, with both sides signalling a willingness to negotiate while simultaneously emphasizing military preparedness amid persistent regional tensions.

He instructed police personnel to treat women with respect and ensure that female complainants as well as women taken into custody are not kept at police stations after Maghrib. According to the directive, police officers must adopt procedures that protect women’s privacy and dignity while dealing with complaints or investigations. The decision comes in the wake of growing concerns over crimes against women and follows the arrest of a Lahore police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman with a mental health condition. According to police, the woman had left her home and did not return for several hours. Her family later learned from a local resident that a plain-clothes police officer had taken her away on a motorcycle. The victim later alleged that the officer took her to another location and sexually assaulted her. Following the allegations, police registered a case against the accused officer. DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza ordered an immediate and transparent investigation, directing investigators to proceed strictly on merit. The incident also led to disciplinary action within the police department, with 78 police officials reportedly suspended as authorities launched an internal review of the case. While police officials say the new directive is intended to safeguard women, some critics argue that restricting women’s presence at police stations does not address the root problem. They contend that law enforcement agencies should instead focus on ensuring police stations remain safe and accessible for women at all hours.

    Mir Raza’s exhumation set for Saturday

    The exhumation of Karachi youth Mir Raza will be conducted on Saturday to determine the cause of his death after authorities reinstated the previous medical board for his second post-mortem examination. Police and other relevant authorities have been directed to make arrangements for the exhumation. The post-mortem is scheduled to begin at 11am on Saturday. The medical board, which had earlier been reduced to five members, has now been restored to its previous eight-member composition. According to the notification, Dr Samia Syed will serve as the board’s convener. Dow University Professor Dr Naseem Ahmed will perform duties as a pathologist, while Dr Farah Wasim has been included as a forensic expert. CPLC officer Amir Hassan Khan will serve as a forensic identification expert. Dr Kamran, Dr Sri Chand and Dr Daniyal Mirza will also continue as members of the board. The decision came after Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, expressed serious reservations over changes to the medical board. The exhumation had initially been scheduled for Friday but was postponed following the dispute over the board’s composition. Mir Hussain had said he would not allow the exhumation until the previous medical board was restored. His lawyer, Jibran Nasir, also rejected the newly formed board and sent notices to the police and health secretary. He alleged that political interference was affecting the case. Nasir demanded that the exhumation and post-mortem be conducted by the same eight-member board that had originally been constituted by the Karachi police surgeon on court orders. Case background Mir Raza Ali Khan went missing from the Pakistan Employees Housing Society (PECHS) area on July 28. His body was recovered from Gulistan-e-Johar two days later. According to police, Raza had left home at around 4:09am in an online taxi. His body was later found in a severely damaged condition, with a gunshot wound to his chest. Police said all of Raza’s social media accounts had been shut down a day before his body was recovered. Investigators have sought his phone records and information about people who had been in contact with him from the relevant telecommunications company. The driver of the online taxi Raza had used has also been questioned. According to his statement, he dropped Raza at his destination in Gulistan-e-Johar. Raza’s father previously said his son was due to marry on August 30 at Bait-ul-Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. He said Raza had been extremely happy about starting a new chapter of his life.
