Iran unleashes drone barrage on US bases

The conflict between Iran and the United States intensified on Friday as Iranian military officials claimed to have carried out drone attacks on several military facilities used by US forces in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. The developments came after fresh US airstrikes on Iranian targets, signalling another major escalation in the months-long regional confrontation.

According to Iranian military statements, “Arash” attack drones targeted US military warehouses and troop positions at Camp Udairi, Camp Doha and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. Iranian officials said the attacks focused on weapons storage sites, military equipment and logistical facilities. They warned that further military action would continue if attacks against Iran persisted.

Iran also claimed responsibility for drone strikes on Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain and Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan. Iranian state media reported that fuel storage areas, aircraft hangars, maintenance facilities and accommodation used by US personnel were among the intended targets.

However, there was no immediate confirmation from the United States, Bahrain, Jordan or Kuwait regarding the reported attacks. Officials in those countries also did not immediately report casualties or significant damage.

Meanwhile, US forces reportedly carried out fresh airstrikes on an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval headquarters in the northern Iranian town of Zibakenar. Iranian authorities said the facility was hit but added that initial assessments showed no casualties.

In Iraq, several explosions were reported near Erbil International Airport, where US-led coalition forces are stationed. Witnesses reported hearing air defence systems in operation while drones were seen flying over the area. Smoke was later observed rising near the airport complex.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any country assisting the United States in military operations against Iran would be held responsible under international law. He said Tehran reserved the right to respond with measures permitted under self-defence.

Araghchi also criticised Washington over comments suggesting frozen Iranian assets could be used to compensate for damage caused to commercial shipping. He warned that confiscating another country’s assets would create a dangerous international precedent and undermine global financial stability.

The military escalation has also affected global energy markets. Concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea have sharply reduced tanker traffic through key shipping routes. Shipping data indicated that only one oil tanker crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, the lowest daily figure in more than two months.

The situation worsened after attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea increased fears of further disruption to global energy supplies. Rising tensions pushed international oil prices above $100 per barrel, raising fresh concerns about inflation and the global economy.

US President Donald Trump warned that Iran and the Iran-backed Houthi movement would face severe military consequences if attacks on commercial shipping continued. He said Washington was prepared to respond forcefully to any further threats against regional security and international maritime trade.

Tom Holland and Zendaya celebrate exclusive post-wedding event

Hollywood stars Zendaya and Tom Holland have reportedly celebrated their marriage once again with an intimate wedding ceremony in England, months after quietly tying the knot earlier this year. The couple, who have remained one of the entertainment industry’s most private pairs, reportedly took a break from their demanding work schedules and international press commitments to mark the special occasion with a close circle of family members and friends. The private celebration was held at the luxurious Beaverbrook Hotel in Surrey, located near Kingston-upon-Thames in southwest London, an area closely connected to Holland’s upbringing. The exclusive venue, known for its historic charm and scenic surroundings, was reserved exclusively for the couple and their guests for the special event. The lavish Victorian estate spans approximately 370 acres and has welcomed numerous high-profile visitors over the years. Its rich history and secluded location made it an ideal setting for the couple’s intimate celebration away from the public eye. To maintain complete privacy, strict security measures were reportedly put in place throughout the event. Guests and staff members were required to follow a no-phone policy, ensuring that no photographs or videos from the ceremony were shared publicly. The precaution reflected the couple’s long-standing commitment to keeping their personal lives out of the spotlight. According to reports, the wedding celebration was designed to remain entirely confidential, with organizers taking significant steps to prevent any details from leaking before or after the event. The ceremony allowed the newlyweds to celebrate their relationship in a relaxed and private atmosphere surrounded by their closest loved ones. Zendaya and Holland’s romance began after the two met while filming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016. Although speculation about their relationship circulated for years, they largely kept their romance private and rarely discussed it publicly. Their relationship continued to grow over the years, and the pair reportedly became engaged in 2024. Fans have closely followed their journey ever since, with the couple frequently earning praise for balancing their successful careers while maintaining a low-profile personal life. Earlier this year, speculation about their marriage intensified after Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, publicly indicated that the pair had already exchanged vows. While neither Zendaya nor Holland has officially shared details of their wedding, reports of the private ceremony in England have further fueled excitement among fans around the world. Despite their global fame, the couple continue to prioritize privacy, choosing intimate celebrations over highly publicized events as they begin the next chapter of their life together.

Israel raises concerns over Trump’s Gaza plan

Israel has raised concerns with the United States over a Gaza peace plan praised by President Donald Trump after Hamas reportedly agreed to discuss disarmament. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel had shared its objections with US officials and stressed that the publicly released version of the proposal did not reflect its position. Israeli officials also accused Hamas of rebuilding its military capabilities and recruiting fighters since a ceasefire announced by Trump in October. Israel has continued carrying out strikes in Gaza despite the truce, while the conflict has seen a reduction in overall violence. Trump described Hamas’s reported agreement as a “major milestone” in efforts to end the war and claimed that Israel welcomed the development. However, Netanyahu’s office said Hamas’s alleged military preparations showed that the group could still pose a serious threat to Israel. It argued that any long-term agreement must include the complete, verifiable and irreversible disarmament of Hamas. An Israeli official said Israel would not withdraw its forces from Gaza under the proposed framework until it could confirm that Hamas had fully surrendered its weapons. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continued after the Hamas announcement. Palestinian authorities said Israeli attacks on Sunday killed at least 13 people. According to Palestinian authorities, more than 73,000 Palestinians have died in Israel’s military campaign in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Sher Afzal Marwat urges government to rethink deci…

National Assembly Member Sher Afzal Marwat has said that the government appears to be stuck on an issue that could negatively affect its public image and political standing. Marwat said the government needed to carefully consider its decisions and avoid taking positions that could ultimately damage its reputation among the public. He emphasized that decisions involving ordinary citizens, particularly matters related to healthcare, should be approached with greater understanding and consideration.   Commenting on the issue of medical treatment, Marwat said there was nothing wrong with a patient choosing to receive treatment at a private hospital at their own expense. He argued that if an individual is willing and able to pay for medical services privately, the government should not necessarily object to that choice.   According to Marwat, people should have the freedom to decide where and how they want to receive medical treatment, particularly when they are using their own resources. He suggested that restricting such choices could create unnecessary controversy and may not serve the interests of either the government or the public.   Marwat further stressed that the government must think carefully before making decisions that could have political or social consequences. He said that authorities should assess both the immediate and long-term impact of their policies instead of becoming fixated on a single issue. His comments come amid ongoing public debate over government decisions concerning healthcare and access to medical facilities. The issue has drawn attention because healthcare remains a sensitive matter for citizens, particularly those who seek timely treatment and may prefer private hospitals because of availability, facilities, or personal choice. Marwat’s remarks also highlight the broader question of how governments should balance public-sector policies with individual rights and choices. While governments have a responsibility to regulate healthcare and ensure that citizens have access to affordable and quality treatment, individuals may also want the option of using private healthcare services when they can afford them. The lawmaker maintained that the government should adopt a practical and carefully considered approach rather than allowing political disagreements to influence decisions that directly affect citizens. In his view, policies should be designed in a way that protects public interests while also respecting individual choices. He warned that continuing to remain focused on an issue without considering its wider implications could harm the government’s political standing. According to him, the government needs to recognize how its decisions are perceived by the public and make choices accordingly. Marwat’s statement reflects growing calls for greater flexibility and careful decision-making in matters that affect ordinary people. His comments suggest that governments can avoid unnecessary criticism by taking public concerns into account and ensuring that their policies remain focused on practical solutions. The National Assembly member ultimately urged the government to reconsider its approach and make decisions after carefully examining their possible consequences. He emphasized that thoughtful policymaking is essential to maintaining public confidence and avoiding decisions that could damage the government’s image. The remarks underline the importance of balancing government policy with the rights, needs, and preferences of citizens, particularly in sensitive areas such as healthcare.

Malik Riaz seeks intervention over Bahria Town ass…

Bahria Town founder Malik Riaz Hussain has appealed to senior Pakistani officials for intervention over the ongoing actions against his company and family. In a detailed appeal, Riaz raised concerns over the freezing, seizure and auction of Bahria Town properties. He claimed that assets worth around Rs238.6 billion have already been auctioned or taken into possession. He further alleged that some properties are currently facing auction and sale proceedings. According to the appeal, development projects worth approximately Rs372 billion have also been suspended. Riaz expressed concern over what he described as the forced takeover of Bahria Town assets. He alleged that several properties were being sold at prices far below their actual market value. He maintained that legal proceedings related to several properties and other actions are still pending before the relevant courts and forums. Despite this, he alleged that some Bahria Town assets were being taken over and sold before the legal disputes had been fully resolved. The Bahria Town founder also raised concerns over alleged threats against him and members of his family. He claimed that a person accused of threatening him and his family with serious consequences, including death threats, remains free. According to Riaz, an FIR was registered against the alleged individual. He also said that the matter later came before the High Court. However, he claimed that despite the FIR and court intervention, the accused person has not been taken into custody. Riaz urged senior officials to take notice of the situation. He asked them to review the actions being taken against Bahria Town and its properties. He warned that continued freezing, seizure and auction of the company’s assets could have wider economic consequences. The appeal also highlighted the potential impact on ongoing development projects. Riaz claimed that projects worth billions of rupees have been affected by the current situation. He argued that prolonged uncertainty could affect workers, contractors, investors and other parties associated with the projects. Riaz further alleged that the valuation of some assets did not reflect their actual market worth. He claimed that properties were being sold at unusually low prices. He called for the relevant legal procedures to be followed before any further action is taken against the company’s assets. The appeal comes amid ongoing legal and financial disputes involving Bahria Town and its properties. Riaz has asked the authorities to intervene and examine the allegations raised in his appeal.

Ali Gul Pir pushes back against parenting advice

Comedian Ali Gul Pir has spoken about the unsolicited advice new parents often receive in Pakistani society, using his trademark humour to challenge some of the common warnings directed at mothers and fathers. Gul Pir recently became a father to a baby boy, Salar, with his wife, Dr Azeemah Nakhoda. He used a social media reel to share his thoughts on the comments and expectations that often surround first-time parents. One of the first issues he addressed was the common warning that having a baby means saying goodbye to a good night’s sleep forever. Gul Pir questioned the idea, saying babies eventually settle into routines and begin sleeping for longer periods. He also rejected the belief that becoming parents means their personal lives are effectively over. According to the comedian, every family has a different experience and the difficulties faced by one set of parents should not automatically be presented as the future of every new parent. Gul Pir also spoke about another common belief — that children and pets should not live together. As a dog owner, he disagreed with the idea and referred to research suggesting that children who grow up around pets may develop fewer allergies and greater compassion. The comedian then turned his attention to questions about having a second child. He joked that people who constantly ask about expanding their family should not expect to receive personal updates. His response also highlighted how intrusive questions can become overwhelming for new parents. Gul Pir suggested that couples should be allowed to make decisions about their families without constant outside commentary. He also criticised people who comment on women’s bodies shortly after childbirth. Gul Pir questioned why women are often expected to quickly return to their pre-pregnancy appearance. His broader message was about the pressure Pakistani society can place on people whenever they enter a major new phase of life. Gul Pir said big life changes naturally involve sacrifices. However, he argued that people should focus on the positive experiences that come with those changes instead of constantly warning others about what they might lose. The comedian welcomed his first child, Salar, last month. He publicly announced the arrival of his son on Father’s Day by sharing family photographs and pictures of the gifts he received for the occasion.
