‘Jana Nayagan’ roars past Rs 200 crore worldwide in just four days

Vijay’s latest release, “Jana Nayagan”, is gaining serious momentum at the box office. The film has already crossed Rs 200 crore globally within its first four days, boosted by a strong surge in earnings on its opening Sunday.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the movie earned approximately Rs 32 crore net in India on Day 4 alone. That marks a 10.7% increase compared to Saturday’s Rs 28.90 crore haul. With this latest jump, the film’s total domestic net now stands at Rs 124.75 crore, while its gross collection has reached Rs 145.98 crore.

This achievement makes “Jana Nayagan” only the second Tamil film this year to cross the Rs 100 crore mark within India.

Suriya’s “Karuppu” still holds the lead among Tamil releases in 2026, with a lifetime total of Rs 198 crore. However, “Jana Nayagan” appears to be closing in fast. It has already surpassed several other releases this year, including “Parasakthi” at Rs 53 crore and “Love Insurance Kompany” at Rs 43 crore, while also overtaking “Dragon” (Rs 102 crore) and “Sikandar” (Rs 104 crore).

Internationally, the film added another Rs 10 crore in gross earnings on Sunday, bringing its overseas total to Rs 71.50 crore. Combined with domestic numbers, the worldwide tally now sits at Rs 217.48 crore after just four days in theaters.

Breaking down Sunday’s collections by language, the Tamil version contributed Rs 27.30 crore net, followed by Hindi at Rs 3.35 crore and Telugu at Rs 1.35 crore. Theater occupancy remained robust in Tamil Nadu, averaging 69% overall and climbing to nearly 78% during evening screenings. Meanwhile, Hindi and Telugu versions saw comparatively modest occupancy, hovering between 21% and 24%.

Regionally, Tamil Nadu continued to lead ticket sales, generating Rs 22.50 crore in gross revenue on Day 4. Karnataka followed with Rs 4.75 crore, then Kerala at Rs 2.85 crore, and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana combined for Rs 2.05 crore. The remaining regions across India contributed Rs 5.02 crore, pushing the total Day 4 domestic gross to Rs 37.17 crore.

Directed by H Vinoth, “Jana Nayagan” features a notable ensemble cast alongside Vijay, including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, and Mamitha Baiju rounding out the lead roles.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has sought responses from the federal government and the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports over the reported non-renewal of the passport of Arshad Khan, popularly known as “Arshad Chaiwala.” Justice Umair Majid Malik heard the petition filed by Arshad Khan, with Barrister Umar Ejaz Gilani representing him in court. The petitioner’s counsel told the court that Arshad Khan is an entrepreneur who has promoted Pakistani culture internationally. According to the counsel, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) verification board has already cleared Arshad Khan’s identity. His Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) is also active. The court was informed that Arshad had applied for renewal of his passport on August 20, 2025. However, despite the passage of nearly a year, the renewed document had allegedly not been issued. The lawyer said Arshad had repeatedly contacted the office of the interior secretary to resolve the matter but had not received a satisfactory response. He also informed the court that a legal notice had been served on the interior secretary. Despite the notice, no response was reportedly received. Arshad has asked the high court to direct the authorities to issue his renewed passport without further delay. His petition also seeks a declaration that the continued failure to issue the passport is unlawful and violates his fundamental rights. During the hearing, Justice Umair Majid Malik observed that the court would first obtain the position of the relevant government authorities before examining the matter further. The IHC subsequently issued notices to the Director General Immigration and Passports and the federal government through the interior secretary.

Rubina Ashraf urges greater awareness of postpartum depression

Rubina Ashraf, one of Pakistan’s most respected television veterans, recently spoke about the importance of recognizing postpartum depression and supporting women through pregnancy and motherhood. Appearing on a morning television show, the actress shared her thoughts on the emotional and psychological challenges many women experience before and after childbirth, emphasizing that these struggles deserve greater awareness and compassion. Having spent decades in the entertainment industry as an actress, director, and producer, Rubina has earned widespread recognition for her memorable performances in dramas such as Pas-e-Aaina, Tapish, Kasak, Do Bol, Khuda Aur Muhabbat 3, and Iqtidar. She also received praise for directing the acclaimed drama serial Ruswai. Beyond her successful career, Rubina is a devoted mother of two, and her daughter, Nawal Tariq, has also established herself as an actress in Pakistan’s television industry. During the conversation, Rubina highlighted how discussions around postpartum depression were almost nonexistent in previous generations. She explained that society traditionally viewed childbirth as a routine responsibility for women, often overlooking the immense physical and emotional changes they experienced. According to Rubina, people now need to understand that pregnancy is far more than a physical process. She said that a woman undergoes significant transformations in her body, skin, hormones, and emotions, making the journey both physically demanding and mentally exhausting. While pregnancy is often associated with happiness and excitement, it can also bring anxiety, stress, and emotional vulnerability. She stressed that pregnancy-related anxiety and postpartum depression are genuine medical and psychological conditions rather than signs of weakness. Rubina noted that many women silently struggle because their emotional health is ignored or misunderstood. Without proper care and emotional support, these feelings can develop into severe depression, affecting both the mother and her family. The actress urged families to become more aware of these challenges and encouraged them to provide women with understanding instead of judgment. She explained that a pregnant woman should not be expected to manage every household responsibility while dealing with the physical and emotional demands of pregnancy. Instead, she needs kindness, patience, and reassurance from those around her. Rubina particularly emphasized the crucial role of husbands during this period. She said that a husband’s support should begin during pregnancy and continue after childbirth, as these months can be among the most difficult in a woman’s life. Emotional encouragement, practical help, and compassion can make a significant difference in a mother’s mental well-being and recovery. She added that expecting mothers often feel overwhelmed because they are trying to balance multiple responsibilities while their bodies and emotions are constantly changing. Without a supportive environment, these pressures can become unbearable. Rubina’s heartfelt remarks have resonated with many viewers, drawing attention to the importance of maternal mental health. As awareness of postpartum depression continues to grow, her message serves as a reminder that emotional well-being is just as important as physical health during pregnancy and after childbirth. By encouraging empathy, open conversations, and stronger family support, she hopes more women will receive the care they need during one of the most life-changing phases of their lives.

Luigi Mangione pleads guilty to federal charges in killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

Luigi Mangione has entered a guilty plea in Manhattan federal court regarding the December 2024 fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare Chief Executive Officer Brian Thompson. Appearing before US District Judge Margaret Garnett in prison attire, the 28-year-old formally admitted to targeting and shooting Thompson, confirming that he acted with full knowledge that his actions were illegal. During his statement to the court, Mangione detailed his preparations leading up to the attack. He explained that after suffering years of severe back pain and struggling with the health insurance system, he researched UnitedHealthcare’s annual investor conference. Mangione admitted to impersonating an institutional investor to gain event details, manufacturing firearm components using a 3D printer, and traveling to Manhattan specifically to shoot the executive. The guilty plea resolves federal stalking charges that carry significant prison time and eliminates a federal trial. Following the hearing, Mangione’s defense team filed motions requesting the dismissal of pending state murder charges in New York, arguing double-jeopardy protections. However, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office affirmed its intention to proceed with state prosecution.

Iran warns Oman deal does not mean Hormuz is fully…

TEHRAN: Iran has cautioned that its emerging understanding with Oman over the management of the Strait of Hormuz should not be interpreted as a guarantee that the strategic waterway will immediately reopen to normal international shipping. The clarification came after Iran and Oman agreed on a temporary maritime corridor intended to facilitate navigation through the strait. Iranian officials stressed that the arrangement remains limited and does not amount to a full restoration of commercial traffic. Mukhtar Haddad, editor-in-chief of Iran’s Al-Wefaq newspaper, told Arab media that Tehran and Muscat had been discussing the management of the waterway for some time. He said the talks could lead first to a temporary agreement and eventually to a permanent arrangement, but neither step should automatically be seen as a decision to fully restore shipping. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also sought to temper expectations, saying Tehran and Muscat had agreed on a new temporary route but that the understanding did not mean the strait would be completely and immediately reopened. Gharibabadi said Iran remained in a state of war and had made clear to mediators that conditions during an armed conflict could not be treated in the same way as normal circumstances. He added that the United States would need to fulfil its obligations under an earlier memorandum of understanding before Iran considers fully reopening the waterway. Under the joint Iranian-Omani framework, the proposed maritime corridor would be temporary. Russian media reported that vessels entering the Persian Gulf would pass through Iranian waters, while ships returning from the Gulf would use Omani waters. The reported corridor would operate like a two-way maritime route and have a width of about 11.25 kilometres. Iran and Oman are expected to hold further negotiations over the next 30 to 60 days to discuss the possibility of establishing a permanent navigation arrangement. The developments come as the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of a wider regional security crisis. The waterway is one of the world’s most important energy routes, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, claimed that the US Navy had removed or neutralised all mines in international waters of the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that any vessel that attempted to lay new mines would be destroyed. Despite the temporary corridor agreement, Iran’s latest statements underline that a complete reopening of Hormuz remains a separate and politically sensitive issue. For shipping companies and global energy markets, the distinction could prove crucial: a limited navigation arrangement may ease some pressure, but it does not yet signal a return to normal maritime traffic.
