Japan’s PM shares funny cockroach story

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has shared a surprising story about finding a cockroach at her official residence in Tokyo.

The 65 year old prime minister recently answered questions about the residence on X, formerly known as Twitter. She was more scared of a Cockroach than a ghost

One person asked Takaichi if she had ever seen a ghost at the official residence which has been the subject of various ghost stories.

She said she had never seen a ghost there but she did have a frightening experience with a cockroach.

Takaichi explained that she had never seen a cockroach while living in accommodation provided for lawmakers.However after moving into the prime minister’s official residence she once spotted one near her feet. She said she had carefully cleaned the floor under her dining table and removed food crumbs. So when a cockroach suddenly appeared she was hocked.

Why she did Not Kill It

Interestingly, Takaichi decided not to kill the insect. She explained that she has loved the Japanese manga Phoenix since childhood.

The story focuses on themes of life death and rebirth. Because of this she said she could not bring herself to kill the cockroach.

Instead she thought that perhaps the insect was also part of the long cycle of life and rebirth. So, she left the cockroach in the room and walked away.

Her secretaries took action

Takaichi said she tolerated the situation for some time and hoped the cockroach would eventually leave on its own. However when she told her secretaries about it they became frightened.

One of them eventually arranged an operation to remove the unwanted visitor. After that Takaichi did not see another cockroach at the residence.

She felt surprisingly lonely

The funny part of the story came afterward. Although Takaichi felt relieved that the cockroach was gone she admitted that she also felt a little lonely and sad.

She said she experienced both relief and a strange sense of loneliness after the insect disappeared.

    Scientists claim to have discovered a fascinating cosmic mystery. According to them, it is a “black hole star” about the size of our solar system and glowing with extremely bright red light. First observed by James Webb Space Telescope Scientists have been using the James Webb Space Telescope to study distant galaxies in the universe. Their interest in this phenomenon increased after the discovery of the galaxy Maisie’s Galaxy (CEERS 1) and other early-universe objects. In a study published in the journal Nature, researchers named the red-light phenomenon MAM-BH1. They said its completely red appearance and disappearance at specific wavelengths are so dramatic that it cannot easily be compared with other known cosmic objects. Computer simulations suggested that rather than being an extremely massive star, the object is actually a black hole that shines like a star. If the scientists’ interpretation is confirmed, it could indicate that many of the mysterious red dots observed across the universe may also be black hole stars. Rohan Naidu believes that these types of black hole stars could play an important role in the evolution of galaxies.

The fisherman then releases the octopus back into the water. Experts explain that an octopus has hundreds of suction cups on its eight arms. These help it hold onto different surfaces and objects firmly. The octopus may have reacted defensively because of the unusual situation and tried to protect itself by holding on tightly.

    Experts reveal how ancient Egyptians built pyramids?

    The centuries-old Egyptian pyramids have long remained a major focus of interest for people and scientists. For years, scientists have been trying to solve the mystery of how such massive pyramids were constructed in ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Now, a possible answer has emerged. Earlier, it was believed that ropes and sledging systems were used to transport stones to the upper sections of the pyramids. However, evidence discovered near the Nile River suggests that experts of that era had already mastered advanced construction techniques centuries before the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza in the desert. Archaeologists have excavated a 5,000-year-old cemetery-like site near the eastern bank of the Nile River. Two tombs discovered there have construction styles remarkably similar to those of the Egyptian pyramids built centuries later. The walls of these tombs were thicker at the bottom and gradually became narrower toward the top. This design provided greater stability to the structures. Similar techniques were later used in the construction of step pyramids and other large pyramids. Researchers also discovered evidence of ancient methods used to cut stones and wood which were employed in the construction of the tombs. The tombs were discovered in Egypt’s Jabal al-Tayr region where people have been buried for thousands of years. The style of these tombs resembles the tombs of kings in Abydos, one of Egypt’s oldest cities. This suggests that advanced construction techniques may have been widely known across Egypt even before the construction of the pyramids. Researchers said the tombs provide a glimpse into experimental construction methods that may have eventually led to the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. Experts said preliminary analysis indicates that the construction style of these tombs was quite similar to that of the pyramids associated with Egypt’s First Dynasty. Egypt’s First Dynasty ruled the country around 3100 BC. According to Egypt’s Tourism Minister, Sherif Fathy, the new discovery will help researchers understand how these construction techniques evolved throughout ancient Egyptian history. Earlier, in May 2024, researchers discovered a buried branch of the Nile River beneath the desert that once flowed around more than 30 pyramids thousands of years ago. This discovery helped solve the mystery of how ancient Egyptians transported extremely heavy stones to the pyramid construction sites. The 40-mile-long branch of the river once flowed around the Great Pyramid of Giza and other pyramids. Thousands of years ago, it gradually became buried beneath desert sand and agricultural land. According to the research, the presence of this ancient river explains how 31 pyramids were constructed between approximately 4,700 and 3,700 years ago in a valley that has now become a deserted strip of desert. The valley is located near Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and is home to the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only surviving wonder of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. A study published in the journal Nature Communications reported the discovery of this ancient branch of the river. The research team used radar satellite technology to identify the hidden river channel. Surveys of the area and analysis of samples confirmed the presence of the ancient river. According to researchers, the river was once very powerful but may have gradually become buried under sand because of drought around 4,200 years ago. The Great Pyramid of Giza is located just one kilometer from the bank of this buried river. Around 2.3 million stone blocks were used to build the pyramid with each block weighing between 2.5 and 15 tons. Researchers said the ancient river also provides clues about why pyramids were built at different locations. They explained that the river’s course and flow changed over time which may have led Egyptian rulers to construct pyramids at different locations.

    How canvas and color rescued Winston Churchill

    When history pictures Sir Winston Churchill, it summons the same iconic image of the stoic wartime leader. This typical leader with a bulldog scowl possesses cigar clamped between his teeth and a V-for-victory sign raised to a resilient nation. Yet behind the fierce political maneuvers lay a deeply sensitive man fighting severe emotional exhaustion. There’s a major landmark exhibition in London, titled Winston Churchill: The Painter. It has kept Britain’s titan grounded: his lifelong, intense passion for oil painting. The 1915 Catalyst Churchill did not pick up a paintbrush as a youth or a rested pensioner. He was forty years old and engulfed in the darkest catastrophe of his career. Following the disastrous Gallipoli campaign in 1915 during the First World War, Churchill was stripped of his post at the Admiralty. He got abruptly casted into political exile. So, he felt his mind consumed by overwhelming anxiety and listlessness. He had described himself as a deep-sea creature suddenly hauled to the surface. He suffered from a terrifying drop in pressure. In desperation, he picked up a set of children’s paints belonging to his young family members. What began as a tentative experiment to stave off despair quickly blossomed into an obsession. As Churchill would later recall, The Muse of Painting came to my rescue. The canvas provided something his turbulent political career rarely allowed: a realm where he held absolute command over every stroke, texture, and hue. From Cautious Strokes to Bold Expressionism The exhibition traces Churchill’s artistic maturation across five decades and more than fifty rare works, many loaned from private collections where they have remained hidden from public view for generations. Initially guided by artistic mentors such as Sir John Lavery and Sir William Nicholson, Churchill’s early works were cautious and subdued, capturing war-torn landscapes on the Western Front during his subsequent military service in France. However, as his confidence grew, so too did his appetite for vibrant color and energetic compositions. Influenced by French Post-Impressionism, Churchill developed an eye for brilliant light and rich pigment. He famously declared his disdain for muted palettes, writing that he felt genuine pity for poor, timid browns in favor of unapologetic cobalt blues, emerald greens, and fiery terracottas. Whether rendering the lush water garden at Chartwell or capturing the sun-drenched architectural marvels of Marrakech, Churchill painted with the same he brought to the House of Commons. Morocco, in particular, held a magical appeal for him. He returned there six times, captivated by the dramatic contrast between the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and the luminous desert plains. Art as Solace and Soft Diplomacy For Churchill, painting was never a mere hobby to kill time; it was a psychological anchor and a companion through severe personal tragedies. When his three-year-old daughter Marigold tragically died of sepsis in 1921, or when political fortunes ebbed during his wilderness years in the 1930s, Churchill retreated to his studio at Chartwell. Surrounded by paint tubes housed in old cigar humidors, he labored for hours at his easel, finding peace in the disciplined focus required to translate nature onto canvas. Beyond personal healing, his artwork doubled as subtle political allegory and warm diplomacy. Paintings like The Beach at Walmer (1938) depicted a historical cannon watching over innocent swimmers. This artwork hinted at his growing anxiety over looming European conflict long before others acknowledged the threat. Later in life, he frequently gifted canvases to world leaders, bodyguards, and trusted confidants, using his art as a bridge of personal warmth.  A Portrait of the Man Ultimately, exploring Churchill’s canvases fundamentally reframes our understanding of one of history’s most formidable figures. The bold brushstrokes reveal an individual far more vulnerable, contemplative, and joyful than the uncompromising statesman of public memory. By stepping behind his easel, we discover that the stubborn courage that helped save the free world was nurtured, in no small part, by the quiet sanctuary of color and light.  

  • Pakistan’s Next Strategic Advantage: From Labour Mobility to Global Talent

    By Tahseen Ullah  For decades, labour migration in Pakistan has largely been viewed as a response to unemployment and poverty. While this perspective has served its purpose, it no longer reflects the realities of today’s global economy. In the twenty-first century, labour mobility has become far more than an economic necessity—it is a strategic investment in human capital, national competitiveness and economic diplomacy. Countries that can produce skilled, certified and globally competitive workers will hold a distinct advantage in an increasingly interconnected labour market. As ageing populations, declining fertility rates and persistent labour shortages reshape developed economies, demand for skilled workers is rising across Europe, East Asia and other advanced markets. Pakistan, with one of the world’s youngest populations, is well positioned to seize this opportunity. The real challenge is not whether Pakistan has enough young people willing to work abroad, but whether it can equip them with internationally recognised skills, qualifications, language proficiency and professional competencies that meet evolving global labour market demands. Pakistan’s labour migration journey began with the establishment of the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment in 1971, following the Gulf oil boom. Since then, more than 15 million Pakistanis have migrated through regular channels, contributing significantly to infrastructure, healthcare, construction, transport and service sectors worldwide while improving the livelihoods of millions of families back home. Today, overseas employment remains one of Pakistan’s most important economic assets. According to BEOE, 862,625 Pakistanis migrated for employment in 2023, followed by 725,672 in 2024 and 762,499 in 2025, with early trends indicating sustained international demand in 2026. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Migration Report 2025 and the State Bank of Pakistan estimate workers’ remittances at approximately US$38.3 billion in FY2024–25, representing nearly 9.34 percent of GDP. These remittances strengthen foreign exchange reserves, reduce poverty and support macroeconomic stability. Yet labour migration has rarely been treated as a strategic pillar of Pakistan’s long-term economic planning. The global labour market is undergoing profound change. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, demographic shifts, technological advances and the green transition will create millions of new employment opportunities over the coming decade. Healthcare professionals, engineers, IT specialists, skilled technicians, renewable energy workers, construction professionals and caregivers are expected to remain in particularly high demand. Pakistan possesses a valuable demographic dividend, with nearly two-thirds of its population under the age of 30. However, this advantage will only translate into economic gains through sustained investment in education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), international certification, digital skills and language training. The challenge is clear. The Pakistan Migration Report 2025 shows that nearly two-thirds of Pakistani migrant workers remain low-skilled or unskilled. While their contribution is invaluable, low-skilled employment often results in lower wages, limited career progression and greater vulnerability to labour market shocks. In contrast, highly skilled migrants generally access better jobs, stronger labour protections and significantly higher earnings. Pakistan must therefore move beyond a traditional labour export model towards a human capital export strategy. Success should no longer be measured simply by the number of workers leaving the country, but by the quality, productivity and global competitiveness of its workforce. Achieving this transformation requires comprehensive reforms. TVET institutions must align training with international occupational standards and labour market needs. Language education in German, Japanese, Korean and Italian, alongside digital literacy, workplace ethics and intercultural communication, should become integral components of workforce development. Market diversification is equally important. While Gulf Cooperation Council countries will remain Pakistan’s primary labour destinations, excessive dependence on one region exposes the country to geopolitical uncertainty and labour market fluctuations. Pakistan should actively expand regular labour mobility partnerships with Europe, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Canada, where structural labour shortages continue to grow. Government-to-government labour mobility agreements should become a strategic priority. Such partnerships can enhance transparency, reduce recruitment costs, improve worker protection and strengthen employer confidence in Pakistani talent. Simultaneously, Pakistan should pursue mutual recognition of qualifications and internationally accepted skills certification to facilitate smoother labour market integration. Institutional coordination will also be essential. The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, together with the NAVTTC, provincial TEVTAs, Overseas Employment Promoters, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s overseas missions, should implement an integrated national labour mobility framework supported by labour market intelligence, digital recruitment platforms and evidence-based policymaking. Pakistan can draw valuable lessons from the Philippines, whose migration governance combines ethical recruitment, mandatory pre-departure orientation, comprehensive worker welfare and strong overseas support systems. Adapting these practices would strengthen Pakistan’s reputation as a reliable source of skilled and protected migrant workers. At the same time, addressing irregular migration must remain a national priority. Preventing dangerous migration routes requires expanding legal migration opportunities, strengthening career counselling, improving public awareness, dismantling human smuggling networks and ensuring aspiring migrants have access to reliable information and affordable recruitment services. Labour migration should no longer be viewed solely as a means of reducing unemployment or increasing remittances. It should be recognised as a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economic diplomacy, human capital development and long-term growth strategy. The countries that will lead the future of global labour mobility will not necessarily be those with the largest populations, but those that invest in producing highly skilled, internationally certified and globally competitive talent. Pakistan has already demonstrated its ability to contribute to the global workforce. The next step is to move beyond exporting labour to exporting talent. By investing in skills, strengthening institutions, diversifying labour markets and promoting ethical, well-governed migration, Pakistan can transform its demographic dividend into one of its greatest strategic advantages. The world is searching for talent. Pakistan has the youth. What it now needs is the vision to turn that potential into global human capital leadership.
