Laila Zuberi shares advice on handling marital disagreements

Senior Pakistani actress Laila Zuberi has shared thoughtful advice on how married couples can handle disagreements, anger, and tense situations in a relationship.

During a conversation with host Nida Yasir, the veteran actress discussed the importance of remaining calm when emotions run high between husband and wife. She advised women that when their husbands are angry, it may be better to avoid immediately arguing or responding in anger. According to her, reacting in the heat of the moment can sometimes make a disagreement worse rather than helping resolve it.

Laila explained that when either a husband or wife becomes angry, the other person should give them some time and space to calm down. Once emotions have settled, the couple can discuss the actual reason behind the disagreement and try to find a solution through a calm conversation.

The actress also shared a personal rule that she and her husband established at the beginning of their marriage. She revealed that they decided they would never go to sleep while being angry or upset with each other.

According to Laila, the couple makes an effort to resolve their differences before going to bed. This includes talking through their problems, apologising when necessary, and making an effort to understand each other. She believes that addressing disagreements instead of allowing resentment to continue can help maintain a healthier relationship.

However, Laila Zuberi’s comments sparked a discussion among social media users, particularly regarding her suggestion that women should remain silent when their husbands are angry.

Several users questioned why the advice appeared to be directed mainly at women. They argued that maintaining peace during an argument should be a shared responsibility between both partners rather than something expected from only one person.

Some social media users pointed out that if a wife is expected to remain quiet when her husband is angry, the same principle should apply when the wife is the one who loses her temper. In their view, both partners should give each other time to cool down before continuing a difficult conversation.

One user offered a humorous take on the situation, suggesting that couples should simply follow a “turn-by-turn” rule. Whenever one partner becomes angry, the other should remain silent until the situation becomes calmer.

Despite the debate surrounding her comments, the central message from Laila focused on communication, patience, and resolving disagreements rather than allowing anger to damage a relationship.

Laila Zuberi is regarded as one of Pakistan’s veteran television actresses. Her career is linked to the early days of Pakistan Television, and she initially worked as a radio artist before moving into television during the 1980s.

She gained recognition through memorable performances in several popular television productions, including Guest House. Over the years, she has appeared in numerous acclaimed dramas and established herself as a respected figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry.

CBFC orders cuts in Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 b…

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited film Awarapan 2 has officially received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but only after several significant edits were made. The film has been awarded a U/A 16+ certificate, allowing viewers aged 16 and above to watch it under parental guidance. The CBFC approved the film on August 5, 2026, with a final runtime of 140 minutes and 20 seconds. However, before granting certification, the board instructed the filmmakers to implement changes at nine different points throughout the movie. According to reports, the CBFC asked the makers to tone down violent sequences, remove certain objectionable words from both the audio and subtitles, and include mandatory health warnings related to smoking and drug use. The board also directed the filmmakers to display the Hindi title prominently and ensure that anti-smoking messages remain visible during scenes featuring tobacco use. In addition, the certification body required a warning related to child trafficking to be included in the film. Some action scenes were shortened to reduce the intensity of violence, while one particular sequence was reportedly cut by nearly 50 percent. A scene involving drug inhalation was also modified to comply with certification guidelines. The end credits were adjusted to better align with the background music. Overall, approximately four minutes of footage were removed, while another 20 seconds of content were altered. Despite these edits, the film’s official runtime remains unchanged at 140 minutes and 20 seconds. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film serves as the sequel to the 2007 hit Awarapan and continues the emotional storytelling of the original while introducing a darker, revenge-driven narrative. Produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the sequel also reunites composer Mithoon and lyricist Sayeed Quadri. Fans can look forward to refreshed versions of the iconic songs “To Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta,” along with several new tracks created specifically for the film. With the required CBFC changes now completed, Awarapan 2 is set for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026. The film is expected to attract both longtime fans of the original and new audiences eager to see Emraan Hashmi return to one of his most memorable franchises.

Democrats select Crowley, Flanagan as Republicans back Demuth in key state races

Democratic socialist Francesca Hong and moderate David Crowley are locked in an extraordinarily tight contest for Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial nomination, while Minnesota voters selected progressive Peggy Flanagan for the US Senate and Republican Lisa Demuth for governor. With 80 per cent of the votes counted in Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley held a narrow lead of just a few hundred votes over Hong. The outcome remains too close to call in a race widely seen as a major test of progressive policy appeal in a crucial battleground state. Hong, a state representative and former chef, ran on a platform advocating for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a temporary moratorium on data centres, and increased corporate taxes. Her campaign faced late scrutiny over past social media posts concerning Thanksgiving, which she subsequently clarified. The victor of the Democratic primary will face Republican nominee US Representative Tom Tiffany in November. In Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, Democrats selected Rebecca Cooke to challenge Trump-aligned Republican incumbent Derrick Van Orden. Cooke, a former small business owner and waitress who has out-fundraised Van Orden, secured backing from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” programme. Across the state line in Minnesota, Democratic voters chose Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan as their US Senate nominee over moderate Representative Angie Craig. Flanagan, who campaigned on dismantling ICE, will seek the seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Senator Tina Smith. In Minnesota’s Republican gubernatorial primary, State House Speaker Lisa Demuth secured the nomination, defeating former MyPillow chief executive Mike Lindell despite his high-profile endorsement from Donald Trump. Demuth now advances to challenge Democratic nominee Senator Amy Klobuchar in the general election.

Ishaq Dar, Turkish foreign minister discuss region…

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Sunday night, during which the two sides discussed recent developments in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on issues of mutual interest. According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two foreign ministers agreed that dialogue and diplomacy remained the most effective means of addressing regional challenges and promoting peace and stability. The conversation took place as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Islamabad has increasingly emerged as an important diplomatic channel in efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging negotiations between the parties. Dar has recently held discussions with several senior diplomats regarding the rapidly changing regional situation. Last week, he met US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Pakistan’s Ambassador-designate to Sweden Ahmed Amjad Ali. During these meetings, the foreign minister exchanged views with the diplomats on regional developments and Pakistan’s efforts to contribute to peace and stability. Dar emphasized that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding must be implemented in both letter and spirit, describing this as the most appropriate way forward. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, security and diplomatic engagement. Dar recently held a joint press conference with Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who praised Pakistan’s role during the US-Iran conflict. Eide particularly acknowledged the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir during delegation-level discussions held in Islamabad. The Norwegian foreign minister said Pakistan had taken on a significant responsibility by offering Islamabad not only as a venue for negotiations but also as a facilitator between Washington and Tehran. Eide described Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts as a service to the international community and expressed strong support for the role Islamabad had assumed since the conflict began on February 28. The latest diplomatic contacts also come against the backdrop of a major regional security development: the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye on August 7. The trilateral agreement has been described as a defensive security framework designed to strengthen collective deterrence, expand military cooperation and contribute to regional stability. The agreement has attracted considerable attention because of the growing security challenges in the region and the evolving strategic relationships among Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. The Makkah agreement follows the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia last year. That pact established a stronger bilateral security relationship and stated that aggression against either country would be regarded as aggression against both. The latest developments indicate that Pakistan is seeking to strengthen diplomatic and security partnerships while maintaining its stated preference for dialogue and peaceful resolution of regional disputes. Dar’s conversation with Fidan further reflects the close relationship between Islamabad and Ankara, particularly on regional security and diplomatic matters. Both countries have consistently emphasized the importance of cooperation, consultation and peaceful negotiations in addressing regional crises. Their latest discussion is expected to contribute to continued coordination as tensions across the region remain high.

Nora Fatehi breaks silence on Sarke Chunar controversy

Nora Fatehi has once again addressed the controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” from KD: The Devil, revealing that years of experience in the entertainment industry have helped her develop what she describes as a “thick skin” when dealing with criticism and public backlash. The actress and dancer recently discussed the controversy during an appearance on the Dream with Dr Sheen podcast. Speaking about the reaction that followed the release of snippets connected to the song, Nora said she was not completely surprised by the criticism. According to her, she had already anticipated that the situation could attract strong reactions, particularly because discussions surrounding the song became connected to broader conversations about feminism and the portrayal of women. Nora also alleged that certain influencers were paid to promote a particular narrative about the controversy. She claimed that she was aware that some people had been hired to criticize or target her, suggesting that the situation had been deliberately amplified by individuals who saw an opportunity to benefit from the controversy. The “Dilbar” performer explained that she was initially unaware of how the song would eventually be presented. She said she had spent several days shooting for the project but did not know that the material would later become the subject of widespread discussion and criticism. Rather than immediately panicking, Nora said she remained calm when the controversy erupted. However, as misleading claims began circulating online, she decided that remaining silent could create further confusion. She eventually released a clarification video in an attempt to explain her involvement and set the record straight. Nora said that despite providing an explanation, she continued to face accusations from people who refused to believe her version of events. She pointed out that the complete song had not actually been released at the time, with audiences instead seeing snippets, selected clips and AI-generated images. In her earlier clarification, Nora had explained that she originally filmed the song around three years ago in Kannada. She said that when the material was translated, she did not find anything inappropriate or vulgar because she depended on the information provided to her by the people working on the project. Since she does not understand Kannada, she said she had no way of independently evaluating the original lyrics. According to Nora, the controversy arose after the song was adapted and dubbed into Hindi. She claimed that the Hindi lyrics and dubbing were done without seeking her permission or approval. She further stated that she had not been informed about the changes and had no idea that the song would eventually be presented in that form. The controversy surrounding “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke” also escalated after a formal complaint was reportedly filed over allegations that the song contained vulgar and obscene material. The issue subsequently generated considerable discussion on social media, with audiences debating the lyrics, presentation and the involvement of the performers. The song features vocals by Mangli, while its lyrics were written by Raqeeb Alam and the music was composed by Arjun Janya. For Nora, however, the controversy appears to have reinforced the importance of protecting her side of the story. Her latest comments suggest that years of dealing with public scrutiny have made her more prepared for criticism, even when she believes the narrative surrounding a project does not accurately reflect her involvement. By speaking openly about the incident, Nora has once again maintained that she should not be held responsible for changes made to the song without her knowledge or approval. Her comments also highlight the challenges celebrities can face when older projects are reworked or released in a form they did not originally expect.
