The DNA of Karachi businessman Mir Raza has matched samples collected from his parents, officials said on Tuesday. The development is part of the ongoing investigation into his death.

Authorities have also expanded the investigation team handling the case. A notification has been issued for the appointment of two additional officers.

According to the notification, DSP Sirajuddin and Inspector Muhammad Ali have been included in the investigation team. Their addition has increased the strength of the team to seven members.

The latest appointments come as investigators continue to examine different aspects of the case. Police are also reviewing the available evidence as part of the probe.

Meanwhile, the former investigation officer appeared before the Judicial Magistrate East in connection with the case. He requested additional time to submit the investigation report.

The former officer told the court that the investigation was still in progress. He also informed the court that senior authorities had changed the officer responsible for investigating the case.

He said the newly appointed investigation officer would appear before the court at the next hearing. The officer is expected to continue the investigation and submit the required report.

The court accepted the request for more time. It directed the former investigation officer to submit the report by August 15.

The court proceedings took place as investigators continued their efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.

The DNA match with his parents has also provided an important development in the investigation. Authorities are now expected to continue examining other evidence and findings linked to the case.

Bullet casing found near spot where Mir Raza Ali&#…

Police investigating the death of a young man, Mir Raza Ali, have recovered a spent bullet casing from the area where his body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar neighborhood. The discovery is being treated as a potentially important piece of forensic evidence that may help investigators determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to police sources, the bullet casing has been collected and will be sent for forensic examination. Experts will conduct ballistic testing to determine the type of firearm from which the bullet was fired. Investigators hope the analysis will establish whether the casing can be linked to a specific pistol or any weapon previously used in other criminal cases. Officials said that forensic testing is a standard part of the investigation and could provide valuable clues regarding the events leading up to Mir Raza Ali’s death. If the casing matches a firearm recovered in the future or one already registered in forensic databases, it could help identify those responsible or provide investigators with new leads. Police sources stressed that it is still too early to reach any conclusions about the case. They cautioned against speculation, saying that the investigation remains in its initial stages and that all available evidence is being examined carefully. Authorities emphasized that no official determination has yet been made regarding the motive or the exact circumstances of the young man’s death. Investigators have also confirmed that the pistol believed to have been used in the incident has not yet been recovered. The search for the weapon is continuing, and police teams are working to locate it as part of the ongoing investigation. Recovering the firearm is considered a key objective, as it would allow forensic experts to compare it directly with the recovered bullet casing and establish whether the two are connected. In addition to the forensic examination, investigators are expected to continue gathering evidence from the crime scene and surrounding areas. Police may also review available surveillance footage, interview potential witnesses, and collect any additional material that could assist in reconstructing the sequence of events. Such investigative steps are commonly taken in cases involving suspicious deaths to ensure that all possible evidence is preserved and analyzed. Authorities have reiterated that the investigation is progressing and that further updates will be shared once forensic reports and additional evidence become available. Until then, police are urging the public to avoid drawing conclusions based on unverified information. The recovery of the bullet casing marks an important development in the investigation, but officials maintain that it represents only one piece of the overall evidence. The final findings will depend on forensic analysis, witness statements, and any additional evidence collected during the course of the inquiry. For now, investigators remain focused on uncovering the facts surrounding the death of Mir Raza Ali and determining whether any criminal involvement was responsible for the incident.

Gold prices rise for third straight session, hit two-month high

Gold prices extended their upward momentum on Tuesday, climbing for a third consecutive session as investors turned their attention to key US inflation figures that could influence expectations for the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decision. The precious metal continued to attract buying interest amid renewed safe-haven demand and growing expectations that US monetary policy could become less restrictive if economic data point to a cooling economy. Spot gold gained around 1% to reach $4,432.74 per ounce by 0217 GMT, its highest level since June 5. US gold futures also advanced, rising 1.7% to $4,492.60 per ounce. Market analysts said several factors were contributing to the latest rally, including investors who had stayed on the sidelines during gold’s earlier decline and are now returning to the market as prices recover. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said the move was partly being driven by a fear of missing out among investors who had failed to take advantage of the previous decline toward the $4,000 level. He also pointed to short-covering by speculative traders and renewed demand for gold as a safe-haven asset. Sycamore added that gold could have further room to advance over the medium term, potentially opening the way for a stronger recovery toward the $5,000-per-ounce mark. US inflation data in focus Investors are now closely watching the latest US inflation figures, with the consumer price index (CPI) scheduled for release on Wednesday and producer price data due on Thursday. The reports are expected to provide important clues about the future direction of US interest rates. Markets have already reduced expectations for further monetary tightening following weaker-than-expected US employment data released last week. The latest jobs figures raised concerns about the strength of the US economy and encouraged traders to reassess expectations for the Federal Reserve’s policy path. At its July meeting, the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged, although three policymakers dissented and supported an increase. The split among officials highlighted uncertainty over the appropriate direction of monetary policy as the central bank continues to balance inflation risks against signs of economic weakness. Gold generally benefits from a lower-interest-rate environment because the metal does not provide interest or other regular income. When bond yields and interest rates decline, the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion becomes less significant, potentially increasing its appeal among investors. Fawad Razaqzada said that if incoming economic data continue to indicate a slowing US economy without a significant acceleration in inflation, financial markets could further reduce expectations for tighter monetary policy. Such a development could weigh on the US dollar while creating a more supportive environment for gold, he said. Geopolitical tensions add to safe-haven demand Geopolitical developments also remained an important factor in precious-metals markets. US President Donald Trump responded to Iran’s conditions for a potential peace agreement with demands of his own, including calls for compensation over people killed during wars, attacks and protests. The exchange has added uncertainty to diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway for global energy shipments. Any prolonged disruption or renewed tensions around the Strait could increase concerns over global energy supplies and economic stability. Such uncertainty often encourages investors to seek traditional safe-haven assets, including gold. Analysts are therefore watching both economic indicators and geopolitical developments for signs that could influence bullion prices in the coming sessions. Other precious metals also gain Gold was not the only precious metal to advance during Tuesday’s trading. Spot silver increased by 0.9% to $66.30 per ounce, maintaining its recent strength. Platinum also moved higher, gaining 0.7% to $1,765.26 per ounce. Meanwhile, palladium rose 0.8% to $1,394.00 per ounce. With US inflation figures due later in the week, traders are expected to remain cautious while assessing whether the latest economic data will reinforce expectations for a shift toward easier monetary policy. For gold, a combination of softer US economic indicators, a potentially weaker dollar, lower interest-rate expectations and continued geopolitical uncertainty could provide additional support to prices in the near term.

Heart of Nepal mourns Nirmal Purja after Pakistan …

Nepal: Deep sorrow swept through Nepal as family, friends, teachers, and students gathered at Nirmal Purja’s former school to honor the legendary mountaineer, whose life was tragically cut short in a deadly avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak. At Small Heaven School in Chitwan, candles were lit and flowers placed before a portrait of the celebrated British-Nepali climber, creating an emotional tribute to a man whose remarkable achievements inspired millions around the world. The ceremony took place as rescue teams recovered the 43-year-old’s body following the avalanche that claimed the lives of ten climbers last Thursday. Those who knew Purja long before he became an international mountaineering icon remembered him as a determined and fearless child with extraordinary ambition. Former classmate Dhiraj Bahadur Panta recalled the anxious days when Purja was reported missing, saying friends and admirers across the world had prayed for his safe return. He described the loss as heartbreaking, adding that fate had taken away a man admired by countless people. Teachers also reflected on Purja’s early years, describing him as disciplined, honest, and courageous. Shailendra Baral, who supervised him in the school hostel, said Purja displayed exceptional confidence even as a young student and always stood out for his determination to achieve something meaningful in life. Purja went on to become one of the greatest mountaineers of his generation. In 2019, he rewrote climbing history by scaling the world’s 14 highest peaks in just over six months, smashing a record that had stood for years. His extraordinary accomplishment was later featured in a Netflix documentary, inspiring aspiring climbers and bringing global recognition to Nepal’s mountaineering community. He further cemented his legacy in 2021 by joining the all-Nepali team that completed the first-ever winter ascent of K2, one of the world’s most dangerous mountains. A year later, he returned to his hometown for the screening of his documentary, proudly telling local residents that he hoped his journey would encourage young people to dream beyond their circumstances. Students attending the memorial said Purja’s story had become an enduring source of inspiration within the school. They remembered him not only as a national hero but also as someone who brought immense pride to Nepal through his courage, determination, and unwavering spirit. As tributes continue to pour in from around the world, Nirmal Purja is being remembered not only for conquering the planet’s highest peaks but also for inspiring generations to believe that no dream is beyond reach.

Sindh High Court rejects disqualification plea aga…

The Sindh High Court has dismissed a petition seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party leader and National Assembly member Shazia Marri over an alleged fake degree. The court announced its decision after the case remained pending for around 13 years. The petition was declared not maintainable and subsequently rejected. The court said the High Court does not have constitutional authority to disqualify a member of Parliament. According to the court, such matters must be dealt with through the relevant constitutional and electoral forums. The court also noted that a similar objection had previously been raised during the 2018 general elections. The matter was taken before an election tribunal at that time. The Election Commission later rejected the objection concerning Marri’s degree in 2022. An appeal against the tribunal’s decision was subsequently filed before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal in 2023 after it was withdrawn. During the latest proceedings, Marri’s lawyer argued that the degree issue had already been examined by the Election Commission. He told the court that evidence relating to the qualification had been presented before the commission. The lawyer maintained that the Election Commission had already rejected the petition concerning Marri’s degree. The court also discussed the constitutional requirements for disqualification. It observed that a person cannot be disqualified simply through a constitutional petition. The court said the authority to determine whether a person meets the required constitutional standards rests with the appropriate judicial and electoral forums. It further stated that the courts cannot declare an individual truthful and trustworthy outside the constitutional procedure provided for such matters. The judges also referred to previous orders of the Supreme Court while determining the maintainability of the petition. Based on these considerations, the court concluded that the petition could not be entertained. The decision brings an end to a legal challenge that had remained pending for more than a decade. The case had focused on allegations concerning Marri’s educational qualification. However, the Election Commission had already rejected the related objection. The latest ruling also reinforces the distinction between the powers of the High Court and those of election tribunals and other constitutional forums in matters involving parliamentary eligibility. The court’s decision means that the petition seeking Marri’s disqualification has been dismissed without granting the requested relief.

Rod Stewart’s recent health scare has forced the legendary singer to cancel the remaining dates of his One Last Time farewell tour, leaving fans concerned about his recovery. His wife, Penny Lancaster, has now offered a reassuring update as the 81-year-old musician focuses on getting better. Stewart recently underwent a successful coronary stent procedure after being taken to hospital for a medical issue. His representatives confirmed that he is recovering well and has resumed normal daily activities, but doctors have advised him to take around four weeks away from performing.  Penny Lancaster shares an emotional update Lancaster, who has been married to Stewart since 2007, has remained close to him throughout his recent health difficulties. Her response comes as the singer takes a break from the demanding touring schedule he has maintained for years. The couple’s family life has frequently remained separate from Stewart’s huge career, but Lancaster has supported her husband through several health challenges over the years. Stewart himself has attempted to reassure fans that he is recovering. Following the procedure, the singer expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals who cared for him and apologized to fans who will miss his upcoming performances.  Tour cancellation follows several setbacks The heart procedure comes after a difficult period for Stewart’s touring schedule. Earlier this month, he postponed a Cincinnati performance after requiring what was initially described as a minor medical procedure. A Cleveland show was also postponed. These cancellations followed other health-related disruptions earlier in the year.  Stewart also caused concern during a July concert in Utah when he briefly stopped performing and used oxygen backstage after nearly fainting. He later addressed the audience and continued his performances.  With his latest medical procedure requiring additional recovery time, Stewart has now canceled the remaining dates of his One Last Time tour. The affected schedule included performances in North America, Mexico and a planned Las Vegas residency. Promoters and venues are expected to provide information about refunds and other arrangements directly to ticket holders.  Stewart focuses on recovery Despite the disappointment of ending the tour early, Stewart’s representatives say he is doing well and following medical advice. The singer has spent decades performing around the world, and stepping away from the stage is clearly an emotional decision. However, his latest update suggests that his priority is now regaining his strength. For Lancaster and the rest of Stewart’s family, the recent health scare has brought another reminder of the importance of putting his wellbeing first.
