DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates has launched a new direct maritime trade route with China, creating a faster shipping link between the two countries and reducing the time needed to transport vehicles.

The new route connects Khorfakkan Port, located on the Gulf of Oman outside the Strait of Hormuz, with China’s Xiaomo Port. According to the Emirates News Agency, the service will bring large shipments of vehicles directly from the Chinese port to Khorfakkan.

The launch is expected to give vehicle importers and logistics companies a quicker option for moving cargo between China and the UAE. The new direct service will reportedly cut vehicle transportation times by three to five days, improving efficiency across the supply chain.

Khorfakkan’s strategic location on the Gulf of Oman makes it an important maritime gateway, with direct access to international shipping routes. The new connection could further strengthen the port’s role in handling Chinese goods and automotive shipments bound for the UAE and wider regional markets.

The development also reflects growing trade and logistics cooperation between the UAE and China, particularly as demand for faster and more reliable supply chains continues to increase.

For the automotive sector, shorter transit times could mean quicker deliveries, smoother inventory planning and greater flexibility for businesses handling vehicles imported from China.

With the new route now operational, the UAE is strengthening its position as a regional logistics hub while providing Chinese exporters with a more direct maritime connection to the Gulf.

The service is expected to support growing bilateral trade and make vehicle movement between the two markets faster and more efficient.

According to an official statement issued by the PM&DC, the entrance test, originally scheduled for August 16, will now be held on September 20, 2026. The council said the decision was made to ensure the examination is conducted in a more organized, secure, transparent, and candidate-friendly manner. Officials emphasized that the revised schedule is intended to improve overall arrangements while maintaining the integrity of the admission process. PM&DC clarified that, apart from the change in the examination date, all previously announced terms, conditions, and examination arrangements will remain unchanged. Any further revisions, if required, will be communicated through a separate official notification. The council has advised candidates, parents, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to regularly monitor its official website and communication channels for updated information, instructions, and announcements related to the examination.       Pakistanis have been exempted from the United States’ proposed US$20,000 visa bond requirement, after the country was left out of the list covered by the new policy. The United States has officially made its 2025 Visa Bond Pilot Program a permanent measure. However, Pakistan is not included among the countries subject to the financial guarantee requirement. Under the program, travelers from certain countries may be required to pay a visa bond of up to US$20,000 before entering the United States. The bond serves as a financial guarantee to ensure visitors comply with the terms of their visas, including departing the country before their authorized stay expires. According to the latest list released by US authorities, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and India are not among the countries included in the permanent visa bond program. As a result, Pakistani applicants seeking US visas will not be required to deposit the US$20,000 financial guarantee under this policy. The visa bond initiative was originally introduced as a pilot program in 2025 to reduce visa overstays and encourage compliance with US immigration laws. The program allows the US government to impose a refundable financial bond on visitors from selected countries that have high rates of visa overstays or other immigration concerns. With the program now becoming permanent, only nationals of the countries designated by the US government will be subject to the bond requirement. Since Pakistan has not been placed on that list, Pakistani travelers applying for US visas will continue to follow the standard visa application process without the additional financial bond. The decision is expected to provide relief to many Pakistani citizens planning to visit the United States for tourism, business, education, or family-related purposes, as the proposed bond could have posed a significant financial burden on applicants. While the visa bond requirement does not apply to Pakistan, all applicants must still meet the existing US visa eligibility criteria, including submitting the required documentation, attending a visa interview when necessary, and satisfying immigration officers that they intend to comply with the conditions of their visa.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Captain Sarwar embraced martyrdom on July 27, 1948, during the first Kashmir war while fighting in the Tilpatra area of Azad Kashmir. His bravery earned him the distinction of becoming Pakistan’s first Nishan-e-Haider recipient. ISPR said Captain Sarwar led his troops with exceptional courage, strong military strategy and an unwavering sense of duty. The people of Pakistan and the armed forces continue to honour his enduring legacy, which inspires present and future generations to uphold the values of duty, honour and patriotism. President Zardari said Captain Sarwar sacrificed his life for the cause of Kashmir’s freedom, describing his sacrifice as a timeless example of courage, duty and patriotism. He added that the nation’s martyrs remain a precious national asset and that Captain Sarwar’s name will always be remembered. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to the national hero, saying the entire nation honours his sacrifice for the defence of Pakistan. He said Captain Sarwar fought the enemy with remarkable courage and became the first Pakistani to receive the Nishan-e-Haider for his ultimate sacrifice in the service of the country.

    LAHORE: The Punjab government has ordered a province-wide crackdown against organized professional begging networks, with Lahore set to become the first “Beggar-Free City” under a coordinated enforcement campaign. The decision came during a meeting chaired by Punjab Home Secretary Dr Ahmed Javed Qazi at the Home Department. Authorities directed relevant departments to develop a joint strategy to identify professional beggars, expose the networks operating behind them, and take action against those who force vulnerable people into begging. The Punjab Safe Cities Authority and traffic police have received special assignments to help identify and dismantle the begging mafia’s network. Officials will use modern technology, surveillance tools and human intelligence to locate key hotspots and track repeat offenders. Dr Qazi stressed that authorities must take strict action against handlers who exploit children, women and elderly people for begging. He said the government had introduced legal amendments to increase penalties and fines and discourage organized begging networks. Under the amended Punjab Vagrancy Ordinance 1958, forcing someone to beg constitutes a non-bailable offence. The home secretary directed authorities to ensure strong prosecution of arrested members of the begging mafia so that cases result in effective convictions. The meeting also called for the creation of a centralized database of professional beggars who face repeated arrests. Officials will also maintain updated records of needy and destitute people who seek assistance at welfare homes. Dr Qazi instructed authorities to identify begging hotspots across Lahore and conduct targeted operations at these locations. He further emphasized the need for close coordination among all relevant departments to eliminate organized begging networks. The government also plans to strengthen welfare homes and turn them into support centers for vulnerable members of society. Officials will improve arrangements for food, healthcare and accommodation while providing education to children staying at these facilities. The welfare homes will also offer vocational training to help deserving individuals develop skills and achieve financial independence instead of relying on begging. Dr Qazi urged civil society organizations to play an active role in supporting vulnerable communities. The home secretary appealed to citizens to report professional begging networks to police at 15. He assured the public that the authorities would keep the identities of informants confidential. The meeting was attended by Social Welfare Secretary Saira Umar, Special Secretary Home Zainab Khan, Director General Social Welfare Dr Shahenshah Faisal, Director General Probation and Parole Shahid Iqbal, Additional Secretary Prisons Roman Burana, Additional Secretary Judicial Abdul Rauf, Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, AIG Sarfraz Warak, Deputy Prosecutor General Dr Usman Iqbal, Civil Defence Director Tasneem Ali Khan, along with officials from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, FIA, School Education Department and Health Department.
