Lahore: The National History Museum (NHM) hosted a week-long Mini Museum Display from 26th July to 2nd August 2026, marking the culmination of its flagship Summer School 2026 Programme.

The display showcased projects created by participants exploring museum curation, oral histories, arts and crafts, architecture, and Pakistan’s food heritage during the summer school. Through field visits, hands-on activities, workshops, and creative experimentation with artificial intelligence, participants learned a variety of aspects from the history and culture of Pakistan.

Reflecting on the experience, one participant said, “Being part of the Summer School is always exciting. This is my second time attending the school at the National History Museum, and I return each time with great enthusiasm to learn something new about my culture.”

The opening day welcomed participants, parents, and special guests from academia. Attendees participated in interactive activities, including a LEGO-making workshop, making virtual block-printed bookmarks and postcards. The event also featured Circles of Life, a special workshop conducted by Taimoor Khan Mumtaz, the renowned architect at Kamil Khan Mumtaz Architects in Lahore.

A parent of a Summer School participant remarked, “My children had a wonderful time. Displays like this build children’s confidence and encourage them to learn and experiment. The activities made the experience engaging, while Mr Taimoor Khan Mumtaz’s workshop was particularly memorable.”

The Mini Museum Display received encouraging attendance and positive feedback from visitors. Speaking about the initiative, Awais Malik, Director, National History Museum, said, “The summer school is the soul of our mission at the National History Museum i.e., to educate the youngsters on the rich heritage of Pakistan.”

The Mini Museum Display reflected NHM’s continued commitment to creating experiential learning experiences that connect the youth with Pakistan’s history, heritage, and culture.

Karachi braces for cloudy, humid weather

Karachi is expected to witness cloudy and humid weather over the next 24 hours, with light drizzle likely in some areas during the morning and evening, according to the latest forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday. The Met Office said daytime temperatures in the port city are expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C, while the minimum temperature recorded early Monday was 28°C. Humidity levels remained high at 78 percent, making weather conditions feel warmer than the actual temperature. Sea breezes continued to blow across the city at a speed of around 15 kilometres per hour, providing some relief from the humid conditions. Weather officials said intermittent drizzle could occur in isolated parts of Karachi, particularly during the early morning and after sunset, although no widespread rainfall is expected. Meanwhile, the PMD has projected that August 2026 is likely to be drier than usual across much of Pakistan, with rainfall expected to remain below the long-term average in most regions. The monthly climate outlook, released on July 31, was prepared using forecasts generated by 10 internationally recognised seasonal climate prediction models, providing a comprehensive assessment of expected weather trends during the month. According to the department, large-scale climate patterns are expected to play a significant role in shaping weather conditions across the country. The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently in a positive phase and is likely to continue through August, while the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) has also shifted into a positive phase. Meteorologists say the combination of these climate systems is expected to suppress rainfall in many parts of Pakistan. As a result, below-average rainfall is forecast for most regions of the country. The greatest rainfall deficits are expected over northeastern and central Punjab, extending into adjoining parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as southeastern Sindh. In contrast, parts of Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to receive rainfall closer to normal levels during the month, making it one of the few regions where precipitation is not forecast to decline significantly. The PMD has also warned that temperatures across Pakistan are likely to remain above seasonal averages throughout August. The most pronounced rise in temperatures is expected over eastern Gilgit-Baltistan, central and northeastern Punjab, adjoining areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan.

World Cup hero Vozinha joins Chilean giants Colo-Colo

SANTIAGO: Cape Verde’s inspirational goalkeeper Josimar Jose Evore Dias, widely known as Vozinha, has completed a remarkable transfer to Chilean football powerhouse Colo-Colo, capping off an extraordinary rise that began with his unforgettable performances at the FIFA World Cup 2026. The Chilean Premier Division leaders confirmed the signing on Monday after the veteran goalkeeper successfully passed his medical examination. The 40-year-old has signed a six-month contract, with the club holding an option to extend his stay for another year if both parties agree. Vozinha became one of the biggest surprise stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Cape Verde made history by reaching the knockout stage in their debut appearance at football’s biggest tournament. Although the African side eventually bowed out after a narrow Round of 32 defeat to eventual finalists Argentina, the team’s fearless performances won admiration across the globe. At the heart of Cape Verde’s historic campaign was Vozinha, whose spectacular reflex saves and commanding presence between the posts frustrated some of the world’s strongest teams. He played a decisive role in helping his nation secure impressive draws against eventual champions Spain and two-time world champions Uruguay during the group stage, earning widespread praise from fans and football pundits alike. His World Cup heroics also transformed him into a global social media phenomenon. Before the tournament, Vozinha had a modest online following of around 50,000 on Instagram. Within weeks of his standout performances, that number had skyrocketed to nearly 29.5 million followers, making him one of the fastest-rising football personalities of the year. According to Chilean media, Vozinha could make his much-anticipated debut for Colo-Colo on August 16 against O’Higgins as the club looks to maintain its lead in the domestic league and strengthen its title challenge. Adding another heartwarming chapter to his story, Chilean football authorities approved Colo-Colo’s request to allow the goalkeeper to wear his famous nickname, “Vozinha,” on the back of his jersey. Rival clubs reportedly supported the application, ensuring the fan-favourite identity remains part of his football journey. Interestingly, the nickname means “little grandmother” in Portuguese. It originated during his childhood when older boys teasingly called him by the name because he would often run home to the grandparents who raised him after losing neighbourhood football matches. Before arriving in Chile, Vozinha represented Portuguese second-division side Chaves and previously played club football in Angola, Cyprus, Moldova and Slovakia. His latest move marks another remarkable milestone in a career defined by perseverance, resilience and an unforgettable World Cup fairytale.

Pakistani taekwondo player Ehsanullah Mahsud has dedicated his latest gold medal to the people of Pakistan. He credited their prayers and support as a major reason behind his success in the competition. Speaking to Geo News after his win, Mahsud did not hold back his gratitude. He said the medal was not just his own achievement. It belonged to the nation that stood behind him throughout the tournament. The gold came at the Thailand International Taekwondo Championship. Mahsud put together a strong run from the very first round. He opened his campaign with a win against a Kazakh opponent. That victory set the tone early and gave him the momentum he needed heading into the tougher rounds ahead. He carried that form into the semi-final. There, he faced off against an Indian competitor. Mahsud came out on top in that matchup, securing his place in the final. Beating a regional rival at that stage is never easy, and the win added extra weight to his overall run. In the final, Mahsud went up against a player from Sri Lanka. He delivered another strong performance, finishing the tournament with a win and claiming the gold medal. Each stage of the competition tested him differently. From facing a Central Asian opponent early on, to going head-to-head with regional rivals in the later rounds, Mahsud’s path to gold wasn’t a simple one. Every match added pressure, and every win built on the last. This is not just a personal milestone for him. Wins like these also add to Pakistan’s growing presence in international taekwondo, a sport that continues to produce strong performances from Pakistani athletes on the global stage. For Mahsud, the victory reflects months of preparation and discipline. Competing internationally requires consistent training, sharp reflexes, and the ability to perform under pressure across multiple rounds in a short span of time. As he continues competing on the international circuit, this gold adds another achievement to his growing list of accomplishments. It also reinforces his position as one of the athletes representing Pakistan on international platforms. For now, Mahsud’s focus remains on what comes next, as he continues building on this latest success and preparing for future competitions ahead.
