The mystery surrounding the death of young businessman Mir Raza Ali Khan remains unresolved as investigators continue to examine evidence, while the victim’s family insists he was murdered and has raised questions about the findings of the preliminary medical report. Mir Raza’s father, Hussain Raza, has rejected the possibility of suicide. He claimed his son was killed and alleged that attempts were being made to present the case as a suicide. He expressed concern over the medical report, saying it mentioned only the gunshot injury and did not describe what he believes were signs of physical violence on his son’s body. According to the father, Mir Raza had injuries on his face, hands and other parts of his body. He also claimed his son was shot from behind and questioned why the report did not include details of the alleged injuries. He further asked investigators to explain what happened during the period between his son’s disappearance on July 28 and the recovery of his body the following day. He said Mir Raza had spoken to his sister before leaving home and appeared to be in good spirits. The taxi driver who transported him also reportedly told investigators that Mir Raza seemed relaxed and was listening to music during the journey. The family has appealed to senior authorities for a transparent and impartial investigation. The investigation has made further progress with the recovery of another CCTV recording showing Mir Raza’s movements before his death. The footage reportedly captures him taking his mobile phone out of his pocket and throwing it away. Investigators are conducting forensic and technical analysis of the video to determine its significance. Police said the preliminary medical examination found that Mir Raza died from a gunshot wound to the chest. However, the firearm used in the incident and the spent bullet casing have not yet been recovered, leaving investigators without key physical evidence. As part of the ongoing investigation, police are also looking into Mir Raza’s financial dealings. Initial inquiries suggest he had borrowed money from several individuals. Authorities are preparing a list of those people and are questioning them to determine whether any financial dispute may have contributed to the incident. Investigators have so far included 12 individuals in the inquiry and recorded statements from 15 people connected to the case. Earlier CCTV footage showed Mir Raza leaving his shop in Bahadurabad during the early hours after taking a security guard’s pistol from a drawer. He later returned home, where he left behind his car, smartwatch, house keys and Rs39,000 before booking an online taxi. Further footage showed him traveling alone to Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Investigators believe he switched off his mobile phone near Johar Mor before reaching Block 2, where he was last traced.

Heavy monsoon rains continued to wreak havoc across Sindh, killing at least eight people and injuring another eight as widespread flooding disrupted life in several districts. The provincial government placed all rescue and emergency agencies on high alert and directed authorities to intensify relief efforts in the affected areas. The downpour caused severe urban flooding, inundated roads and residential areas, and damaged public infrastructure. Authorities warned that more rainfall could worsen the situation and urged residents to remain cautious. Hyderabad received an exceptionally high amount of rainfall, with a cumulative 360 millimetres recorded between August 1 and August 2. The continuous rain submerged roads, disrupted traffic and affected routine activities across the city. In Badin district, floodwaters created a major emergency after two breaches developed in the Mirwah Canal on Sunday morning. The breaches, measuring approximately 15 feet and eight feet wide, allowed water to flow into nearby settlements, flooding around 200 houses. Local authorities and rescue teams were deployed to assist affected families and assess the damage. The provincial government also took administrative action during the emergency. The Town Municipal Officer (TMO) of Umerkot was suspended for remaining absent from the district while the crisis unfolded. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed all rescue organizations to remain on high alert and ensure a rapid response to emergencies. He instructed the Local Government Department that no government officer should leave their place of posting without prior permission until the situation improves. The chief minister also directed Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, district administrations, town municipal authorities and other civic agencies to keep the city’s drainage network fully operational. He emphasized that all available machinery and staff should be deployed to ensure the quick removal of rainwater and prevent prolonged flooding. Murad Ali Shah ordered the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the Irrigation Department, the Health Department, district administrations and rescue services to stay fully prepared for any further emergencies. He instructed officials to implement all precautionary measures immediately and provide timely assistance to affected residents.

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology into the recruitment and examination system of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC). The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah on Tuesday. The chairman of the SPSC, the secretary of information technology and other senior officials attended the meeting. During the meeting, the chief secretary said AI and modern technology would be used to make the SPSC examination process more efficient and transparent. Officials discussed the use of technology in several stages of the examination process. This includes the preparation of question papers, assessment of candidates and management of examination-related data. The new system is also expected to reduce unnecessary human involvement in certain stages of the examination process. Officials believe greater use of technology could help improve efficiency and minimise administrative delays. The Sindh government also plans to establish technology-equipped workstations across the province. These facilities will provide candidates in different areas with access to modern examination services. The initiative is aimed at improving accessibility for applicants from various parts of Sindh. The government said the use of AI and digital tools would help modernise the recruitment process and improve the overall management of SPSC examinations.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided to hold a full court reference on August 7 to honour the judicial services of Justice Musarrat Hilali ahead of her retirement from the country’s apex court. An official notification has been issued announcing the ceremony, which will pay tribute to Justice Hilali’s contributions to Pakistan’s judiciary and recognise her years of service on the bench. The full court reference will be attended by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, all judges of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General for Pakistan, representatives of the Pakistan Bar Council, office-bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and members of the legal fraternity. The event is a longstanding judicial tradition held to acknowledge the professional achievements and public service of retiring judges. During the reference, senior judges, law officers and representatives of the legal community are expected to deliver speeches highlighting Justice Hilali’s legal career, commitment to the rule of law and contributions to the administration of justice. The ceremony will take place at the Supreme Court of Pakistan on August 7, where members of the bench and bar will gather to bid farewell to the retiring judge and acknowledge her lasting contribution to the country’s judiciary.
