Pakistan’s Foreign office launches evening s…

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has introduced an evening shift for consular services, extending working hours from 8am to 8pm on weekdays to enhance accessibility and convenience for citizens, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced on Monday .

According to an official announcement shared by Dar on X, the expanded hours represent a significant increase in service availability, allowing citizens to access consular facilities over a 12-hour window, Monday through Friday . The initiative is part of the ministry’s broader efforts to enhance efficiency and ensure citizen-centric service delivery .

Previously, consular services at MOFA were limited to regular government working hours, requiring citizens to visit offices within a designated daytime schedule . The restricted timings often posed challenges for individuals, particularly overseas Pakistanis and working professionals who faced difficulties accessing services during conventional office hours .

The introduction of the evening shift aims to address these concerns by providing greater flexibility to applicants, officials said . Details of the revised timings have been confirmed, and the ministry expects the move to significantly reduce bottlenecks and improve the overall citizen experience .

The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to digitize and streamline public services, with the Foreign Office now joining other federal departments in extending service hours to better accommodate the public .

Thitikul leads Women’s open as Ryu and Kuwak…

World number two Jeeno Thitikul leads the first round of the AIG Women’s Open by two shots after a spectacular seven-under-par 64 at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s. The 23-year-old Thai, who has 11 top-10 finishes in majors but is yet to win one, went bogey-free in a fine start to her latest attempt. Thitikul sank seven birdies in a faultless round, including three straight birdies on the front nine and difficult par saves. “Winning one [major] doesn’t mean I am going to have a really good, successful career,” Thitikul said. “Winning one doesn’t mean much, I would rather be a consistent player, more than just winning one and then gone. Sometimes I had a hard time dealing with all the noise.” South Korea’s Haeran Ryu, aiming to become only the fifth woman in history to claim three majors in a calendar year, is tied for second alongside Japan’s Shiho Kuwaki on five under. Ryu, 25, claimed her second major in the space of two weeks at the Evian Championship earlier this month. That form continued as four birdies on the front nine quickly took her to the top of the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on the 15th, Ryu finished with two birdies in the last three holes. England’s Lottie Woad and Charley Hull are both on two under, while compatriot Alice Hewson led the tournament in the morning and finished one under. Hull, the most recent British female player to win a major, is back playing after giving birth five months ago and endured a tough opening round to end the day five over. “I missed quite a few putts today that I felt I should have holed, but I felt like I stayed in there pretty well considering how nervous I was, because I feel there was a lot of pressure on me out there,” she said. Last year’s Open champion Miyu Yamashita shot one-over-par, while three-time major winner Lydia Ko is even par. World number one Nelly Korda, who started the year with two major titles and won the US Open in June, struggled in her quest for a career Grand Slam, finishing two over par. Korda got off to a slow start with bogeys on the second and third holes but recovered those shots to reach the back nine at even par before slipping back.

Sugar mills seek approval to export 585,000 tonnes…

The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has requested the federal government to allow the export of 585,000 tonnes of surplus sugar, saying the country has sufficient stocks to meet domestic demand while supporting sugarcane growers ahead of the next crushing season. In separate letters addressed to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the Minister for National Food Security, the association urged the government to grant immediate permission for sugar exports, as it has done in previous years. According to the letters, Pakistan had 3.4 million metric tonnes of sugar in stock as of July 15, 2026, while the country’s average monthly consumption stands at approximately 567,000 metric tonnes. The association said that even before the start of the upcoming crushing season, an estimated 1.158 million metric tonnes of sugar would remain in stock, ensuring ample supplies for domestic needs. PSMA further stated that another bumper sugarcane crop is expected during the next crushing season, which is projected to produce around 8 million metric tonnes of sugar—well above the country’s annual requirement. The association warned that with the sugarcane sowing season approaching, growers are facing uncertainty due to concerns over excess sugar stocks and limited storage capacity. It urged the government to allow the export of surplus sugar, including stocks held as strategic reserves, within one month of the beginning of the new crushing season. According to the association, timely exports would help stabilise the domestic market, create storage space for the new crop, and ensure better returns for sugarcane farmers
