The wait is over for Thai fans as 16‑year‑old Rock sensation Nene Royal has officially advanced to the America’s Got Talent Season 21 Live Shows. The announcement came from the AGT Auditions page, which declared: “NENE ROYAL is heading to the live shows!” alongside her photo and the reveal of this year’s live acts.

This marks a major milestone for Nene, who impressed audiences and judges alike from her very first audition. Called back for the Judges’ Callbacks, she delivered a powerful performance of Muse’s “Hysteria”, showcasing both her vocal strength and guitar skills. The performance drew praise from the panel and quickly went viral online.

    Russia and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) have discussed new opportunities to expand collaboration in science, technology and higher education. Russian Ambassador Albert P. Khorev received a COMSTECH delegation on August 12. The delegation was led by COMSTECH Coordinator General Professor Dr M. Iqbal Choudhary. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Russia and COMSTECH, particularly in areas of scientific research and academic development. Russia participates in the OIC as an observer state. Professor Iqbal Choudhary highlighted existing cooperation between COMSTECH and Russian institutions. He specifically mentioned collaboration with Kazan Federal University and the Russian Association of Earthquake Engineering and Protection against Natural and Man-Made Hazards. The participants identified considerable potential for expanding academic links between the two sides. They discussed stronger partnerships between universities, increased scholarship opportunities and joint research projects in fundamental sciences. Both sides also stressed the need to speed up implementation of initiatives previously agreed upon under their bilateral working mechanism. These initiatives were discussed during the first meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation between COMSTECH and the Russian Federation in science, technology and higher education. The meeting was held in Kazan on May 13, 2026, on the sidelines of the international economic forum Russia–Islamic World: KazanForum. Ambassador Khorev reaffirmed Moscow’s interest in expanding its engagement with the OIC and Muslim-majority countries. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation with Pakistan. The participants noted that stronger scientific and academic links between Russia and COMSTECH could also contribute to closer Russia-Pakistan relations, particularly through education, research and technological cooperation. The two sides agreed to maintain regular communication and provide necessary support for implementing joint initiatives and projects.

    KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has strongly rejected Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s proposal for creating new administrative units, calling it an outdated idea that the people of Sindh would never accept. Speaking to reporters in Bhit Shah on Friday, Murad said he had heard the interior minister’s statement but was unsure what exactly he was referring to. He said if Mohsin Naqvi believes the current governance system has failed, he is free to present proposals, but the idea of creating new administrative units is an old suggestion that has already been debated. The chief minister said Sindh is the land of Sufi traditions and its people would not support such a move. He stressed that any proposal affecting the province should reflect the will of its people. Murad also pointed out that different political parties are governing different parts of the country. He noted that Punjab is ruled by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Balochistan has a coalition government, Sindh is governed by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is under the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Commenting on the country’s youth, Murad said young people are Pakistan’s future and will lead the nation in the years ahead. He rejected any negative remarks about them, saying the youth are a valuable national asset and should be encouraged rather than criticised.

    Two arrested in Rs220m Karachi heist

    Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a Rs220 million theft in Karachi, apprehending them from Jhang after tracing their alleged involvement in a series of criminal activities across Punjab and Sindh. According to the spokesperson for the DIG Operations, police arrested suspect Mehtab along with his relative, Abdul Rehman, during an operation in Jhang. The spokesperson said Mehtab has 18 previous cases of theft and burglary registered against him. Investigators have also linked him to a major robbery in Karachi’s Saddar area in April, in which valuables worth around Rs220 million were reportedly stolen. Police said the two suspects had allegedly carried out thefts in several other cities, including Jhang, Faisalabad and Rahim Yar Khan. During the arrest operation, officers recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition from Abdul Rehman, according to police. Authorities also recovered stolen property from the suspects that allegedly belonged to a theft case registered at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases and to trace any additional stolen property.

    Karachi – The standard of education in Karachi’s government schools has declined to a worrying level with only 7 percent of students admitted to top government colleges this year coming from government schools. Questions are being raised over the quality of education in Karachi’s government schools. Sources in the Education Department have revealed that the admission rate of government school students in top government colleges is extremely low. As many as 93 percent of admissions in Karachi’s government colleges were secured by students from private schools. According to Education Department sources, a total of 13,211 students were admitted to Karachi’s top 10 government colleges. However, only 947 students among them came from government schools. According to the sources, at Adamjee Government Science College, only 28 government school students were admitted out of a total of 613 admissions. At DJ Sindh Government Science College, only 44 government school students secured admission out of 1,258 admissions. Similarly, Delhi Government Science College admitted 801 students of whom only 28 were from government schools. At Government Boys College Nazimabad, only 60 government school students were admitted out of a total of 1,317 admissions.

    Imran Khan marks three years in jail

    Former prime Minister Imran Khan has completed three years in prison after his arrest in the Toshakhana case. He was taken into custody on August 5, 2023, shortly after a court convicted him in the case. Following his arrest, he was shifted from his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore, to District Jail Attock under strict security arrangements. Imran Khan remained at Attock Jail for one month and 21 days. During that period, security around the prison was tightened, while legal proceedings related to multiple cases against him continued in different courts. On September 26, 2023, the Islamabad High Court ordered his transfer from Attock Jail to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Since then, he has remained detained at the facility, where he continues to face legal proceedings in several cases. Under the Pakistan Prison Rules, the former prime minister has been provided better-class facilities because of his status as a former head of government. He is being housed in a separate compound consisting of seven cells inside Adiala Jail. The designated area is secured and managed in accordance with prison regulations. During his three years in custody, Imran Khan has reportedly faced a number of health-related issues, including physical complications that have required medical attention from time to time. His legal team has on several occasions raised concerns about his health and requested appropriate medical care, while prison authorities have maintained that medical facilities are being provided in line with the law. Despite remaining behind bars, Imran Khan continues to be a central figure in Pakistan’s political landscape. Court hearings in various cases involving the former prime minister are ongoing, while his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), continues to pursue legal and political efforts regarding his release.

    KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology into the recruitment and examination system of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC). The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah on Tuesday. The chairman of the SPSC, the secretary of information technology and other senior officials attended the meeting. During the meeting, the chief secretary said AI and modern technology would be used to make the SPSC examination process more efficient and transparent. Officials discussed the use of technology in several stages of the examination process. This includes the preparation of question papers, assessment of candidates and management of examination-related data. The new system is also expected to reduce unnecessary human involvement in certain stages of the examination process. Officials believe greater use of technology could help improve efficiency and minimise administrative delays. The Sindh government also plans to establish technology-equipped workstations across the province. These facilities will provide candidates in different areas with access to modern examination services. The initiative is aimed at improving accessibility for applicants from various parts of Sindh. The government said the use of AI and digital tools would help modernise the recruitment process and improve the overall management of SPSC examinations.
