MAKKAH: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir performed Umrah in Makkah on Thursday, joining other members of a high-level Pakistani delegation in a deeply spiritual visit.

The Pakistani leaders arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit and later proceeded to the holy city of Makkah to perform the religious ritual. The visit comes amid efforts to further strengthen Pakistan-Saudi Arabia relations and discussions on regional developments.

Before performing Umrah, the Pakistani delegation was also granted the opportunity to make a special visit to the Holy Kaaba, according to the information released regarding the visit.

The prime minister, deputy prime minister, Field Marshal Asim Munir and members of the delegation offered prayers for the progress, prosperity and well-being of Pakistan. They also prayed for the safety and security of the Muslim Ummah and for peace across the region and the wider world.

The spiritual moment added a solemn dimension to Prime Minister Shehbaz’s Saudi visit, which also carries important diplomatic significance. His trip is taking place at a time of heightened regional tensions, with talks expected to focus on bilateral ties and developments affecting the wider region.

The Umrah performed by the Pakistani leadership reflects the close religious and longstanding relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, while the accompanying diplomatic engagements are expected to reinforce cooperation between the two countries.

    CHICAGO: The Chicago River turned bright yellow on Thursday as around 90,000 rubber ducks were released into the water for the annual Chicago Ducky Derby, a colorful charity event that draws thousands of spectators and raises funds for Special Olympics Illinois. The unusual race began when the huge collection of rubber ducks was dropped into the river from one side of a partially opened bridge. Within moments, the water was covered with thousands of small yellow ducks, creating a striking spectacle for people gathered along both sides of the river. The ducks remained in the water for roughly 15 minutes as they floated and moved with the river’s current. Organizers then retrieved the ducks from the water to determine the winning entries and ensure that the river was cleared of the race participants. Thousands of people attended the event, turning the annual derby into a lively festival. Spectators gathered along the riverbanks to watch the race, take photographs and support the charitable cause. Many participants and visitors also wore colorful T-shirts featuring rubber duck designs. The Ducky Derby is organized to support Special Olympics Illinois, helping raise thousands of dollars for programs and activities for athletes with intellectual disabilities. One of the highlights of this year’s event came when 13-year-old Special Olympics athlete and Ducky Derby ambassador Becky Cavanaugh selected the winning duck. Her announcement was met with cheers from enthusiastic crowds gathered along the river. The Chicago Ducky Derby has become a popular annual tradition, combining entertainment, community participation and fundraising.     Pakistan weekly inflation rises as 20 essential items get costlier

    Weekly inflation in the country has recorded a slight increase. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), weekly inflation increased by 0.28%. During the week, prices of 20 essential commodities increased while nine items became cheaper and the prices of 22 items remained stable. According to the PBS, onion prices increased by 10.1% and chicken by 9.19%. The prices of gram lentils rose by 2.4% while the prices of ghee, flour and several other commodities also increased. The PBS said that tomato prices decreased by 6.82%. LPG, sugar, eggs and potatoes also became cheaper. Meanwhile, the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour increased by up to Rs100 in one week. According to the PBS, the maximum price of a 20kg flour bag in the country is Rs3,133. In Karachi, the price increased by up to Rs100 to reach Rs3,000. In Larkana, the price of a 20kg flour bag also increased by up to Rs100 during the week reaching Rs2,600 in Khuzdar and Larkana. In Sukkur, the price of a 20kg flour bag increased by Rs60 while in Bannu it increased by Rs50. Following the increase, the price of a 20kg flour bag reached Rs2,950 in Bannu and Rs2,560 in Sukkur. In Islamabad, the price of a 20kg flour bag reached Rs3,133 while it stood at Rs3,100 in Peshawar and Rs3,093 in Rawalpindi. According to the PBS, a 20kg flour bag was priced at Rs2,960 in Bahawalpur while it reached Rs2,800 in Hyderabad, Multan, Sialkot and Gujranwala. In Sargodha, the price of a 20kg flour bag reached Rs2,793. In Quetta, a 20kg flour bag was priced at Rs2,750 while the price stood at Rs2,300 in Lahore and Rs2,200 in Faisalabad.

    An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has extended the physical remand of former Jamaat-e-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmad and his co-accused, Daniyal, by four more days in connection with a case linked to a protest over the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The two accused were produced before the court after completing an earlier three-day physical remand. During the hearing, the prosecution sought a 30-day remand, arguing that investigators still needed additional time to recover a vehicle and weapons allegedly connected to the case. According to prosecutors, the investigation remains incomplete because the alleged recoveries have not yet been made. They requested extended custody to continue the inquiry. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the request for a 30-day remand and instead approved a four-day extension in police custody. The case was registered at Islamabad’s Shalimar Police Station under charges related to a protest concerning recent unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mushtaq Ahmad’s legal team has previously claimed that he was detained after attempting to enter AJK to express solidarity with people affected by recent violence in the region. They alleged he was stopped by security personnel at Azad Pattan Bridge, denied entry into AJK and later taken into custody by Punjab Police while returning to Islamabad. Following his release from the earlier detention, Mushtaq Ahmad announced plans to organise a peaceful gathering in Islamabad to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. He invited political activists, students, journalists and members of the Kashmiri community to participate in the event. The case comes amid heightened political tensions following recent protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where clashes reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries, drawing criticism from several political parties and human rights groups.
