Russell passed away on July 22 at his home in the San Diego area at the age of 74, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in Hollywood. His family confirmed his death, though the cause has not yet been disclosed.

Carrey, who starred as Stanley Ipkiss in the 1994 blockbuster, shared an emotional statement remembering the filmmaker’s creativity, warmth, and joyful spirit. Speaking to People, the actor said it was a privilege to work alongside Russell and praised the director for creating a fun, imaginative atmosphere on set.

He added that everyone involved in the production was inspired by Russell’s playful energy and passion for filmmaking.

Released in 1994, The Mask became a massive box-office success, earning more than $351 million worldwide. Chuck Russell’s career extended far beyond The Mask. He directed fan-favorite films including A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, The Blob, Eraser starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and The Scorpion King, which marked Dwayne Johnson’s first leading film role. His ability to blend action, horror, comedy, and visual innovation made him one of Hollywood’s most versatile directors.

Tributes from across the entertainment industry continue to pour in as colleagues and fans celebrate Russell’s contributions to cinema. For Jim Carrey, the loss is deeply personal, as the filmmaker played a key role in one of the defining moments of his career.

ECP begins Islamabad local polls preparations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has started the delimitation process for holding local government elections in Islamabad. The commission said the formal process will begin on August 1, 2026, and will continue until October 13, 2026. The delimitation of constituencies is a major step before announcing the election schedule. An ECP spokesperson said that after the completion of the delimitation process and publication of the final constituencies, the commission will consult the federal government regarding the date for Islamabad’s local government elections. The spokesperson also shared updates about local government elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Punjab, delimitation authorities have been directed to submit their decisions to the relevant committees by August 7. The final delimitation list for the province will be published on August 17. The ECP said it is fully prepared to conduct local government elections in Punjab after completing all necessary legal requirements and consultations. Regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the commission said delimitation has been completed in 23 districts, while work is continuing in seven more districts. The spokesperson said the ECP held discussions with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary and local government secretary on July 14 about the election schedule. Provincial authorities were given additional time after requesting support for completing arrangements. The commission said recent amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act created legal issues that affected the delimitation process. The ECP informed the provincial government about these concerns and sought cooperation to resolve the matter. The spokesperson said the commission has faced delays in local government elections because federal and provincial governments often change local government laws close to election dates. He said the ECP has repeatedly completed delimitation exercises and prepared election schedules, but changes in legal frameworks affect the process. The commission recommended that major changes to local government laws and boundaries should be completed at least one year before elections. It said this would help ensure a smooth and timely electoral process.

Permit documents reveal fresh details about Taylor…

Newly surfaced permit documents have offered fans a closer look at how Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce planned one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year. The superstar couple exchanged vows earlier this month during a lavish yet highly private ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While they have largely kept details of the celebration out of the public eye, official event permits have now revealed how carefully every aspect of the wedding was organized. According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the main wedding celebration began at 5 p.m. and continued until 4 a.m. the following morning. The permits also outlined a multi-day schedule, with an intimate rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 guests taking place the evening before the ceremony, followed by the larger wedding celebration attended by around 1,000 guests.  The paperwork also confirmed that extensive road closures were approved around Madison Square Garden to accommodate guest arrivals, security operations and event logistics. Several nearby streets were temporarily closed, while police officers and traffic personnel were deployed throughout the area to manage crowds and ensure the safety of attendees. The large-scale security operation reflected the extraordinary level of public interest surrounding the wedding.  The newly revealed documents also highlight just how much planning went into maintaining the couple’s privacy. Reports indicated that the event featured a strict no-phone policy, while guests and staff were asked to follow confidentiality measures designed to prevent photos or videos from leaking online. Those efforts appear to have been successful, as very few authentic images from the ceremony have surfaced since the celebration.  Preparations inside Madison Square Garden were equally impressive. Sources previously revealed that the iconic venue was transformed into an elegant wedding setting featuring custom décor, greenery, canopies and a specially designed reception space while preserving the arena’s unique character.  The wedding reportedly brought together family members, close friends and a long list of celebrity guests from the worlds of music, sports and entertainment. Despite its grand scale, those in attendance have largely respected the couple’s wishes for privacy, allowing Taylor and Travis to celebrate away from constant public attention.  The permit documents provide the clearest picture yet of how the high-profile celebration was executed. From carefully timed arrivals and extensive security measures to a multi-day schedule, every detail reflected meticulous planning. While fans remain eager to learn more about the wedding, the newly released documents show that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce prioritized one thing above all else: creating a memorable celebration that remained intimate despite the world’s attention.

Babar Azam equals Imran Khan’s historic Pakistan record

Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has added another major milestone to his glittering career, equalling a historic record previously held by legendary captain Imran Khan after being named Player of the Series against the West Indies. Babar shared the award with West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves after Pakistan fought back to level the two-match Test series 1-1 with an impressive eight-wicket victory in the second Test. The right-handed batter was Pakistan’s standout performer throughout the series, scoring 193 runs in four innings at an outstanding average of 96.50, making him the leading run-scorer of the contest. His consistent contributions proved crucial as Pakistan recovered from defeat in the opening Test to finish the series on level terms. Babar began the series with 23 runs in the first innings of the opening Test before producing a composed half-century in the second innings. He then followed it with a fluent 88 in the first innings of the second Test and remained unbeaten on 24 off 30 balls in the final innings, helping Pakistan complete a comfortable chase. The shared Player of the Series honour marked the first such award of Babar’s Test career and the 10th of his international career, placing him alongside Pakistan’s greatest cricketing icons. Before this achievement, Babar had won five Player of the Series awards in T20 Internationals and four in One-Day Internationals. His latest success means he has now equalled Imran Khan and Wasim Akram, who also finished their illustrious international careers with 10 Player of the Series awards each. Former fast-bowling great Waqar Younis occupies fourth place on Pakistan’s all-time list with nine awards. The latest milestone further strengthens Babar’s legacy as one of Pakistan’s finest modern-day cricketers. Having already established himself among the country’s leading batters across formats, the 31-year-old continues to rewrite record books while leading the national Test side, proving once again that consistency and class remain the hallmarks of his career.

The action was taken after inspections revealed that several businesses were operating without complying with mandatory fire safety requirements. According to officials, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso submitted a report to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi detailing enforcement measures taken against businesses found in violation of fire safety laws across the district. The report stated that the sealed shops are primarily located on the ground floor of Bilal Centre and Koh Noor Centre in Saddar. Authorities found that these commercial units failed to meet prescribed fire safety standards and were operating in conditions considered unsafe for customers and employees. The crackdown forms part of a broader campaign to improve compliance with fire prevention regulations in Karachi’s busy commercial districts. Officials have emphasized that ensuring public safety remains a top priority, particularly in crowded shopping centers where inadequate emergency measures can increase the risk of serious incidents. Following the inspection drive, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi directed all deputy commissioners in the city to strictly enforce fire safety regulations and take action against businesses that fail to comply with legal requirements. The directive aims to improve safety standards in markets, shopping centers, and commercial buildings throughout Karachi. Fire safety regulations typically require commercial establishments to maintain functioning fire extinguishers, emergency exits, alarm systems, and other protective measures designed to reduce the risk of fire-related accidents. Authorities have warned that businesses found violating these requirements may face sealing, fines, or additional legal action until the necessary safety measures are implemented. The latest enforcement drive reflects growing efforts by the city administration to strengthen public safety following concerns over fire hazards in commercial areas. Shop owners whose businesses have been sealed will be required to address the identified deficiencies and meet the prescribed safety standards before they can resume operations. Officials have indicated that inspections will continue across Karachi to ensure compliance with fire safety laws, with similar action expected against other businesses that fail to meet the required standards. The administration has urged commercial property owners and traders to fully implement fire safety measures to avoid penalties and help create a safer environment for workers and the public.

US Forest Service chief reportedly pressed staff to deploy extra aircraft for fire near his Idaho ranch

Michael Boren, the US Undersecretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources and Environment who oversees the US Forest Service, reportedly pressured agency staff to deploy additional aircraft to a small 7-acre wildfire burning near his private property in Idaho. According to agency communications and current and former Forest Service officials, the Cabin Creek fire began on 12 July 2026 in the Sawtooth National Forest due to an unattended campfire. Boren, who owns a 480-acre ranch in the nearby Sawtooth National Recreation Area, repeatedly contacted regional and national operations leadership to question why more aircraft were not assigned to the blaze. Flight data reveals that approximately nine aircraft—including air tankers, tactical planes, and helicopters—were dispatched to the small fire, with some assets diverted from other active wildfires in Idaho. Insiders noted that the emergency response was unusually heavy for a minor outbreak that ground crews could easily access and which posed no immediate threat to life or major infrastructure. In response, a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture maintained that Boren merely reported the fire as any local landowner would and denied that he ordered or pressured staff to shift resources. The fire was fully contained by 15 July.
