The poor condition of roads in Ginna, Kech, has become a serious problem for residents. Large potholes damaged road surfaces and the lack of proper maintenance make daily travel difficult and unsafe.

 

Students, patients, workers and elderly people suffer the most while motorists risk accidents and costly vehicle damage every day.

During the rainy season these roads become even more hazardous, disrupting transportation and delaying emergency services. Good roads are essential for public safety and economic development, yet the people of Ginna continue to face neglect.

I urge the concerned authorities to repair the damaged roads without further delay and ensure regular maintenance. The residents of Ginna deserve safe and reliable infrastructure.

    Historians have believed that the collapse of Indigenous populations across the Americas was triggered largely by smallpox. Molecular proof links colonial-era American epidemics directly to Old World viral strains remained elusive. Now, a study published in the journal Science provides the definitive genetic confirmation researchers have sought for generations. It’s led by geneticists at Trinity College Dublin in collaboration with biological anthropologists at the Universidad de Chile. Researchers have successfully extracted and sequenced the oldest known smallpox viral genomes ever recovered in the Americas. The ancient viral DNA was retrieved from the naturally mummified remains of two individuals buried in northern Chile during the early Spanish colonial era. The viral samples were recovered from bone fragments belonging to an adult woman (aged 30 to 35) and a young man (aged 18 to 20) buried near Camarones Cove. A coastal site in northern Chile that once marked the southern reaches of the Inca Empire. The individuals had been naturally preserved by the hyper-arid climate. They’re wrapped in camelid wool blankets and interred in traditional cloth bundles. Scientists initially analyzed DNA from 13 individuals excavated at the site. They were searching for ancient bacterial infections such as tuberculosis. Instead, they discovered preserved traces of the variola virus. Guess what? It’s the deadly pathogen responsible for smallpox. Radiocarbon analysis alongside molecular clock estimates revealed that both individuals died between 1492 and 1631 CE. The violent era of Spanish conquest led by conquistadors like Francisco Pizarro. Because the two viral genomes recovered from the mummies were virtually identical, geneticists concluded that both individuals likely succumbed to the same localized outbreak or were infected by the same circulating viral strain.  Evolutionary Trajectory of a Global Killer When researchers mapped the newly recovered genetic sequences onto a global evolutionary tree of smallpox, the results were unequivocal. The Chilean viral strain positioned directly between medieval European strains. The strains included those previously recovered from Viking-era human remains and later 17th- to 19th-century strains circulating in Europe. This placement provides molecular evidence that the virus was introduced to Indigenous American communities from the Old World. The study yielded surprising insights into how pathogens evolve when introduced to vulnerable host populations. The variola virus originally evolved from a animal-host (zoonotic) pathogen. It was undergoing extensive genetic alteration up through the 16th century as it adapted to human hosts. Surprisingly, the virus’s rate of genetic change slowed dramatically during the peak colonial expansion of the 17th and 18th centuries. Researchers hypothesize that Indigenous populations lacked any pre-existing immunity. So, the virus had reached an evolutionary optimum. It could spread effortlessly without needing further genetic adaptation. The virus’s evolution accelerated once again in the late 18th and 19th centuries. It was after the introduction of Edward Jenner’s smallpox vaccine in 1796. Therefore, the evolutionary pressure forced the pathogen to adapt once more. Why This Discovery Matters Today Smallpox stands as one of the deadliest infectious diseases in human history. It has claimed hundreds of millions of lives over millennia before its official eradication in 1980 through global vaccination efforts. In the Americas, the disease inflicted physical casualties. The virus also shattered social structures and morale. The rapid disfigurement and death led communities to feel overwhelmed by forces they could neither treat nor comprehend. This discovery demonstrates the immense power of ancient DNA research. Tracing how pathogen evolution interacts with human migration, population immunity, and public health interventions provides critical context for understanding modern infectious disease threats today.

While people on Earth watched the full Moon rise above the horizon and shine brightly in the sky astronauts on the ISS enjoyed a completely different view. From space the Moon appears to glow brilliantly against the deep black background of the universe. NASA also shared a message encouraging people to take a moment to look up at the night sky. The space agency said that the full Moon remains one of nature’s most beautiful and timeless sights continuing to inspire people around the world with its beauty.

    Experts reveal how ancient Egyptians built pyramids?

    The centuries-old Egyptian pyramids have long remained a major focus of interest for people and scientists. For years, scientists have been trying to solve the mystery of how such massive pyramids were constructed in ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. Now, a possible answer has emerged. Earlier, it was believed that ropes and sledging systems were used to transport stones to the upper sections of the pyramids. However, evidence discovered near the Nile River suggests that experts of that era had already mastered advanced construction techniques centuries before the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza in the desert. Archaeologists have excavated a 5,000-year-old cemetery-like site near the eastern bank of the Nile River. Two tombs discovered there have construction styles remarkably similar to those of the Egyptian pyramids built centuries later. The walls of these tombs were thicker at the bottom and gradually became narrower toward the top. This design provided greater stability to the structures. Similar techniques were later used in the construction of step pyramids and other large pyramids. Researchers also discovered evidence of ancient methods used to cut stones and wood which were employed in the construction of the tombs. The tombs were discovered in Egypt’s Jabal al-Tayr region where people have been buried for thousands of years. The style of these tombs resembles the tombs of kings in Abydos, one of Egypt’s oldest cities. This suggests that advanced construction techniques may have been widely known across Egypt even before the construction of the pyramids. Researchers said the tombs provide a glimpse into experimental construction methods that may have eventually led to the construction of the Egyptian pyramids. Experts said preliminary analysis indicates that the construction style of these tombs was quite similar to that of the pyramids associated with Egypt’s First Dynasty. Egypt’s First Dynasty ruled the country around 3100 BC. According to Egypt’s Tourism Minister, Sherif Fathy, the new discovery will help researchers understand how these construction techniques evolved throughout ancient Egyptian history. Earlier, in May 2024, researchers discovered a buried branch of the Nile River beneath the desert that once flowed around more than 30 pyramids thousands of years ago. This discovery helped solve the mystery of how ancient Egyptians transported extremely heavy stones to the pyramid construction sites. The 40-mile-long branch of the river once flowed around the Great Pyramid of Giza and other pyramids. Thousands of years ago, it gradually became buried beneath desert sand and agricultural land. According to the research, the presence of this ancient river explains how 31 pyramids were constructed between approximately 4,700 and 3,700 years ago in a valley that has now become a deserted strip of desert. The valley is located near Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt and is home to the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only surviving wonder of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World. A study published in the journal Nature Communications reported the discovery of this ancient branch of the river. The research team used radar satellite technology to identify the hidden river channel. Surveys of the area and analysis of samples confirmed the presence of the ancient river. According to researchers, the river was once very powerful but may have gradually become buried under sand because of drought around 4,200 years ago. The Great Pyramid of Giza is located just one kilometer from the bank of this buried river. Around 2.3 million stone blocks were used to build the pyramid with each block weighing between 2.5 and 15 tons. Researchers said the ancient river also provides clues about why pyramids were built at different locations. They explained that the river’s course and flow changed over time which may have led Egyptian rulers to construct pyramids at different locations.

    A new study suggests that drinking water again and again while eating may not help with weight loss. Instead it could actually make people eat more food. Many people believe that taking sips of water during a meal helps them feel full faster leading them to eat less. However the new research challenges that common belief. Researchers at Cornell University found that for every extra 100 milliliters of water people drank during a meal they ate about 40 grams more food on average. This equals roughly 50 extra calories. The study also found that people who frequently switched between eating and drinking water consumed more food overall than those who did not. Earlier studies have also shown that people with obesity are more likely to drink water for longer periods during meals drink it more quickly and take frequent sips throughout the meal. Researchers say these findings suggest that the relationship between drinking water during meals and the amount of food people eat may be different from what was previously believed. However they stress that more research is needed before any firm conclusions can be made.

In a modern economy obsessed with pristine surfaces and factory precision, these fractured ceramics defy logic. They do retain value despite their damage. Often, they derive their singular majesty precisely because they broke. The art market regularly bears witness to this quiet paradox. At major auction houses in London and New York, porcelain pieces bearing dramatic structural fractures, historic restorations or visible fractures routinely sell for astronomical sums. When a cracked 18th-century Chinese brush washer or a chipped Song Dynasty bowl is launched, purists do not turn away. Instead, connoisseurs see a vessel that has successfully negotiated with time. A pristine artifact can feel like an untouched relic in a glass museum case. A cracked ceramic, however, carries the irreplaceable friction of human history. When collectors haunt dim antique parlors today for cracked celadon or worn earthenware, they are participating in a quiet rebellion against the disposable. We live in an era of engineered obsolescence where a small fracture on a smartphone screen renders the entire device wasted. Antique ceramics represent the opposite: fired earth that withstands centuries, absorbing the touch of generations, bearing scars as badges of longevity. A crack proves that the vessel was used, held, washed, dropped, mourned and salvaged. It shifts the object from a passive decoration to an active survivor. Even the historical methods of repair have become prized antiques in their own right. Before gold lacquer was widely available, 18th and 19th-century itinerant tinkerers repaired heirloom china using metal staples.     Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Mont Blanc”

    In Romantic-era poetry, Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Mont Blanc: Lines Written in the Vale of Chamouni” (1816) stands as the ultimate meditation on the romantic sublime. He wrote it during the second generation of English Romanticism alongside Lord Byron and John Keat.  Shelley used the terrifying scale of the Alpine peak to launch questions about perception, human consciousness and the unseen forces governing the cosmos. While early Romantics like William Wordsworth often found moral harmony and divine comfort in nature, Shelley’s philosophical temperament brought a different energy. For Shelley, nature was not a benevolent mother figure, but an indifferent, boundless, and overwhelming energy. Shelley engages directly with the concept of the Sublime. The sublime is an aesthetic experience where vastness or power induces a feeling of terrifying awe. It makes the human observer feel physically insignificant while mentally elevated. Rather than finding traditional religious comfort in the mountain’s height, Shelley explores his philosophical atheism. He views Mont Blanc as a symbol of Necessity or an impersonal power that governs existence. Throughout the five-part poem, Shelley constructs a series of striking visual and philosophical wonders. Shelley opens the poem by comparing human thought to a river flowing through a ravine. The “everlasting universe of things” rolls through human perception. Human consciousness is both passive (receiving impressions from the grand landscape) and active (shaping those impressions into meaning). The everlasting universe of things Flows through the mind, and rolls its rapid waves… Looking up at Mont Blanc, Shelley does not describe a peaceful picture-postcard landscape. Rather, he depicts a wild, chaotic realm of ice, rock, and storm. He envisions the mountain as a primordial arena where “the old Earthquake-daemon taught her young / Ruin”. The glaciers are slow-moving “frozen floods” that flatten forests and rocks with silent force. Shelley reflects on what lessons this silent mountain holds for humanity. The mountain possesses a mysterious tongue that teaches a lesson. To Shelley, Mont Blanc speaks an unspoken truth that can repeal large codes of fraud and woe (i.e., tyrannical dogmas, religious orthodoxies, and political oppression). Nature’s unyielding reality strips away human pretense. The poem reaches its dramatic climax by returning to the relationship between the peak and human thought. Shelley notes that the mountain remains still, snowy, and serene high above human affairs. He closes with a famous philosophical question: And what were thou, and earth, and stars, and sea, If to the human mind’s imaginings Silence and solitude were vacancy?  The mountain’s grandeur is real, but its meaning exists because the human imagination is there to perceive it. Without the human mind to process wonder, the immense universe would merely be an empty void.
