PPL strikes 1st-ever Chiltan formation gas find in…

KARACHI: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery at its operated Sarani Block in Sindh’s Sujawal district, opening fresh prospects for exploration in the country’s shallow offshore and swampy onshore regions.

The discovery was made at the Dolphin X-1 exploratory well, where PPL identified hydrocarbons in the Chiltan Formation of the Lower Indus Basin. The company described it as the first reported hydrocarbon discovery from the Jurassic-age Chiltan Formation in the basin.

PPL said the find could expand exploration opportunities in adjoining shallow offshore areas and strengthen the hydrocarbon potential of Pakistan’s low-depth marine zones. The region had remained largely unexplored for years because of its challenging geological and geographical conditions.

Drilling of Dolphin X-1 began on April 17, 2026, with the well reaching a measured depth of 3,850 metres to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation. Analysis of drilling results and wireline logs subsequently identified a hydrocarbon-bearing zone.

During testing, the well produced gas from the Chiltan Formation at a rate of 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day. The gas recorded a heating value of 1,000 British thermal units per standard cubic foot, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 211 pounds per square inch gauge through a 64/32-inch choke.

PPL holds a 75 per cent working interest in the Sarani Block and serves as its operator, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited owns the remaining 25 per cent stake.

The company said the well was drilled and tested using the expertise of its technical teams. The results have led to the identification of a new hydrocarbon play within the Chiltan Limestone, potentially providing a foundation for further exploration in the surrounding onshore and shallow offshore areas.

Baby Shark star Park Geon-roung takes K-pop leap with WAVE

The child performer who became globally recognised through the viral “Baby Shark” phenomenon is now preparing for a new chapter as a K-pop artist. Park Geon-roung, now 17, is set to enter the Korean music scene under the stage name Baby Shark Boy (BSB). His debut digital single album, WAVE, is scheduled for release on August 20, 2026. The upcoming track will feature Joohoney, a member of the popular K-pop group Monsta X. Park has also contributed to the song’s lyrics, giving him an opportunity to establish an identity beyond his childhood fame. Park first attracted international attention when he appeared in the “Baby Shark” video as a young child. The song went on to become one of the biggest digital entertainment phenomena in history, reaching audiences far beyond its original target of young children. The Pinkfong Company, the South Korean entertainment company behind the franchise, is supporting Park’s transition into music. According to the company, WAVE will include musical elements inspired by “Baby Shark” as a nostalgic connection to the performer’s early career. However, the new release is intended to present Park as a young musician in his own right rather than simply revive his childhood role. The original “Baby Shark Dance” became the most-viewed video on YouTube in November 2020 after overtaking Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito.” It later became the first video on the platform to cross the 10-billion-view mark. The video has since accumulated more than 16 billion views, demonstrating the extraordinary global reach of the children’s song. Its popularity was largely driven by repeated viewing among children, with young audiences often replaying the short video multiple times. That high level of repetition helped transform the song into a global digital phenomenon. The track also moved beyond children’s entertainment and became a major social media trend. The #BabySharkChallenge encouraged users around the world to recreate its distinctive choreography. International celebrities and major K-pop acts also participated in the trend, helping the song reach audiences that extended well beyond its original demographic. Now, nearly a decade after his appearance in the viral video, Park is attempting to build a career in a very different part of the entertainment industry.

Rajab Butt’s mother reveals his relationship status details and age

Rajab Butt’s mother has broken her silence on one of the most discussed personal sagas in Pakistani vlogging, appearing on Dr Ruby Malik’s podcast for The Digitalline.pk to share details about her son’s age, his marriage and the possibility of a reconciliation with his wife Emaan. Rajab Butt is one of Pakistan’s most followed digital influencers, with around 9 million YouTube subscribers, nearly 3 million Instagram followers and a massive audience on TikTok Live. In recent months, his personal life has attracted as much attention as his content, following reports of a separation from Emaan shortly after the birth of their son Kivan, a formal divorce notice, and subsequent reconciliation speculation. His mother addressed the situation directly, beginning with a revelation about how the marriage came to be in the first place. “Rajab Ali is 30 years old now, Alhamdulillah,” she said. “I arranged his marriage entirely on my own. It was my choice because Rajab wasn’t ready to get married. His priority was to build our house and get Ghazal married first, as we didn’t even have our own home. We sold the house that I had received as my share of the family property, and I invested all of that money into Rajab’s business. Alhamdulillah, he fulfilled both responsibilities, and then I insisted that he get married. I found the proposal myself, and I love Kivan more than anyone.” The account was unexpectedly candid. It revealed not only how the marriage came about but also the financial sacrifices the family made to support Rajab’s career, including the sale of property that was her own personal inheritance. It painted a picture of a mother who invested enormously in her son’s future and then took it upon herself to find him a wife when she felt the time was right. When asked directly about the possibility of Rajab and Emaan reconciling, she declined to speculate. “I don’t know whether Emaan and Rajab will patch up because it is their personal matter,” she said, drawing a clear line around a question she clearly felt was not hers to answer. She was equally measured when asked whether she was already searching for a new marriage proposal for her son. “I have no idea who his future wife will be because I won’t be searching for a proposal this time,” she said, before closing with a prayer: “May Allah make it easy for both of them.” The interview offered a rare maternal perspective on a story that has played out almost entirely through the couple’s own social media accounts and through speculation from their online audiences. Whatever happens next between Rajab and Emaan, his mother’s message was clear: she loves her grandson, she arranged the marriage in good faith, and the rest is in Allah’s hands.

Karan Johar credits Shah Rukh Khan for filmmaking success

Indian filmmaker Karan Johar marked the occasion of Guru Purnima with an emotional tribute to two people he says transformed his life and career—superstar Shah Rukh Khan and filmmaker Aditya Chopra. Through a heartfelt social media post, Karan reflected on the guidance, encouragement, and unwavering faith they showed in him long before he became one of Bollywood’s most successful directors. Sharing nostalgic photographs with Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra, Karan looked back on the early days of his journey in the film industry. He recalled a life-changing moment when Aditya Chopra invited him to assist on the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. At the time, Karan was planning to continue his studies, but Aditya convinced him to stay back and experience filmmaking from behind the scenes. According to Karan, Aditya spoke to him late one night and urged him to work on the film. More importantly, he encouraged Karan to become a director, insisting that he had the talent for it. Karan remembered Aditya telling him that avoiding this path would be one of the biggest mistakes of his life. Those words remained with him and eventually changed the direction of his future. The following morning, Karan discussed the opportunity with his father, the late producer Yash Johar. He asked for one year to work on a film set before making any long-term decisions. Karan shared that his father questioned whether he understood the responsibilities of working on a set. When Karan admitted he did not, Yash Johar offered advice that stayed with him forever. He explained that technical knowledge alone could make someone a producer, but becoming a director required genuine passion and commitment. Karan acknowledged that Aditya Chopra believed in his potential at a time when he lacked confidence in himself. That encouragement gave him the courage to step into filmmaking and eventually direct his first feature film. The filmmaker also reflected on another unforgettable moment involving Shah Rukh Khan. During a trip to Switzerland, the actor confidently told Karan that he would one day become a director and that Shah Rukh himself would star in his debut film. Karan admitted he did not take the promise seriously at the time, assuming it was simply a kind gesture. However, after returning to India, Shah Rukh Khan fulfilled that promise. He stood by Karan and supported him as he prepared for his directorial debut. That support eventually led to the creation of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, the film that launched Karan Johar’s career as a director and became one of Bollywood’s biggest successes. Concluding his Guru Purnima message, Karan expressed deep gratitude to both Shah Rukh Khan and Aditya Chopra. He said their trust, mentorship, and belief helped him overcome self-doubt and pursue storytelling with confidence. Karan added that every success and failure he has experienced in his career has been possible because of the guidance and support they gave him. He described the two as the greatest influences on his journey and thanked them for making it possible for him to tell stories on the big screen.

Oil prices rise more than $2 amid falling US inven…

Global crude oil prices climbed by more than $2 per barrel in the latest trading session, as a decline in US crude inventories boosted market sentiment and supported prices. According to Reuters, the rise came after traders responded to signs of tighter oil supplies in the United States. A drop in crude stockpiles often signals stronger demand or reduced availability, which can encourage investors to push prices higher. Oil prices had fallen in the previous session after tensions between Washington and Tehran showed signs of easing temporarily. However, the market regained momentum in the latest session as supply concerns returned to focus. Brent crude futures gained $2.71, or 3.2%, to reach $86.80 per barrel. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose $2.26, or 3.4%, to trade at $81.95 per barrel. Market participants continue to closely monitor developments in the Middle East, particularly any changes in US-Iran relations, as well as global supply conditions. Any renewed tensions in the region could further affect oil markets because of the Middle East’s importance to global energy supplies. Analysts also expect traders to keep an eye on upcoming inventory data and broader demand trends. A combination of falling stockpiles, geopolitical uncertainty and concerns over supply could continue to create volatility in international oil prices in the coming sessions.
