Thai Actress Nana Rybena Arrested on Fraud Allegations Involving 190 Million Baht

BANGKOK – Thai actress Nana Rybena was arrested by cybercrime police at her residence in Bangkok’s Phra Khanong district this morning on charges of public fraud and violations of the Lending Act. She was subsequently taken to the Central Investigation Bureau for questioning.

Her lawyer, Saiyud Pengboonchu, addressed the media following her arrest, stating that he accompanied the actress and assured the public she has no intention of fleeing. He added that Nana is prepared to fully cooperate with the legal process and has arranged 500,000 baht in bail to seek temporary release from detention.

The arrest follows complaints filed by seventeen individuals, including several fellow celebrities and parents of students at an international school. They allege they were persuaded to invest approximately 190 million baht in four virtual businesses that prosecutors describe as part of a Ponzi scheme. The investment opportunity promised monthly returns ranging between 4% and 7%.

According to the complainants, monthly returns were initially paid out as promised. However, since February, the actress allegedly defaulted on these payments, citing frozen bank accounts as the reason. In lieu of cash repayments, she reportedly issued cheques to the investors, which subsequently bounced.

    Economists have recommended that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) keep its policy rate unchanged at 11.5% at its upcoming monetary policy meeting on July 27. The recommendation comes as inflation has started to ease, but underlying price pressures remain high. Analysts believe the economy is also recovering unevenly, leaving limited room for another increase in borrowing costs. A recent economic assessment showed that headline inflation fell to 11.1% in June. However, core inflation remained elevated. Urban core inflation stood at 8.7%, while rural core inflation was recorded at 7.9%. Economists said much of the current inflationary pressure is coming from food, energy, transport and government-controlled prices. These factors cannot be addressed effectively through interest-rate changes alone. They also warned that a recent increase in the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) requires close monitoring. The development could indicate that the decline in inflation has not yet become firmly established. Financial market indicators also support maintaining the current policy rate. Short-term Treasury bill yields remain close to the SBP’s existing rate, while the overnight interest rate is also broadly aligned with the current monetary policy stance. However, yields on longer-term Treasury bills have increased. The six-month yield reached 11.80%, while the 12-month yield rose to 11.99%. Economists said the movement reflects some caution about the medium-term economic outlook. The assessment noted that Pakistan’s economic recovery has gained momentum but remains uneven. Large-scale manufacturing continues to face challenges, while there are no strong signs of excessive demand that would require another rate hike. Economists warned that raising the policy rate further could increase borrowing costs for businesses and consumers. It could also discourage investment and slow economic activity without directly tackling the supply-side factors behind current inflation. Pakistan’s external position has improved in recent months. Higher foreign exchange reserves, strong remittance inflows and relative stability in the exchange rate have reduced immediate pressure on the economy. Despite these improvements, risks remain. The country continues to face a sizeable merchandise trade deficit and upcoming external debt repayments. Heavy dependence on imported energy also leaves Pakistan vulnerable to international oil price fluctuations. A sharp rise in global oil prices could increase transportation and energy costs in Pakistan. It could also widen external pressures and trigger another round of inflation. Persistent core inflation is another major concern. If underlying price pressures remain high, inflation expectations could become difficult to control. This could delay any reduction in interest rates or force the central bank to consider tighter monetary policy. A weakening exchange rate could create additional pressure by making imports more expensive. It could also affect foreign exchange reserves and increase imported inflation. Economists have therefore advised the SBP to closely monitor private-sector borrowing, lending rates, monetary growth and the difference between short- and long-term interest rates. For now, the indicators favour maintaining the policy rate at 11.5%. However, economists say the central bank should remain ready to adjust its stance if inflation, oil prices, exchange-rate pressures or external financing risks deteriorate.

Real time data from a climate monitoring tool showed the average high temperature across Western Europe is forecast to reach 26.6 degrees Celsius, about 3 degrees above the historical norm for July 22 based on the 1961 to 1990 reference period. Spain’s most severe wildfire so far this year has burned an estimated 32,000 hectares in the Guadalajara region. The fire began to stabilize Tuesday after forcing evacuations across 34 municipalities and confinement orders in 14 others. Castilla La Mancha’s regional fire service, INFOCAM, said residents of five villages have been allowed to return home, though other restrictions remain in place. Visiting the affected region Wednesday, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain has already experienced 22 major wildfires this year. The former MPA has submitted an application requesting the registration of a criminal case against the unidentified attackers. Police said legal proceedings are being initiated in light of her complaint. Investigators have launched an inquiry to determine the motive behind the attack. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from cameras installed in the surrounding area to identify the suspects and trace their movements before and after the attack.     Mir Raza case deepens as guest house probe expands

    A major development has emerged in the investigation into the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali. Investigators have obtained further details about the guest house linked to the case. The premises is located near the place where Mir Raza’s body was recovered. According to investigation findings, the guest house was registered in the name of a man identified as Liaquat Ali. The property itself is reportedly owned by a woman. Police verification of the property was carried out on June 1, 2026. Investigators also found that the guest house was not registered on the Hotel Eye application. Police had made registration on the system mandatory for hotels and guest houses. After the discovery of Mir Raza’s body, police sealed the guest house. Six people working at the premises were taken into custody for questioning. Their statements are being recorded as investigators try to determine whether the guest house has any connection with the case. So far, police have detained 21 people in connection with the investigation. The detainees include Mir Raza’s friends and business partners. Investigators are examining their statements and movements. A five-member investigation committee also held a meeting under the leadership of DIG Crime Branch Amir Farooqi. The committee is reviewing the case in light of new medical and forensic evidence. Police have also expanded the charges in the case. Sections 365 and 302 were already included in the FIR. Section 201 has now been added. The provision relates to concealing, removing or destroying evidence connected to an offence. The development follows a second post-mortem conducted after Mir Raza’s grave was exhumed on August 8. The preliminary medical findings reportedly showed several injuries on his body. The report indicated a gunshot injury to the back. The entry wound was smaller, while the wound on the front side was larger. Medical findings suggest that the bullet entered from the rear and passed through the body. The examination also found fractured ribs. Several injuries were observed on Mir Raza’s head and face. A wound and fracture measuring about 12 centimetres were found on his right thigh. Blood marks were also detected in tissues in the lower part of his body. Further examination revealed a deep injury and fracture in his jaw. Injuries were also found on his nose and other parts of his face. Investigators collected 17 samples during the exhumation. Samples from Mir Raza’s parents were also obtained for DNA comparison. The samples are expected to be examined at the forensic laboratory of the University of Karachi. After the samples were collected, Mir Raza’s body was reburied on the same day. Mir Raza Ali Khan had gone missing from the PECHS area on July 28. Police said he left his home at around 4:09am in an online taxi. His body was found two days later in Gulistan-e-Johar. Police officials said the body was in a badly damaged condition. A gunshot wound was also found on his chest. Investigators also found that Mir Raza’s social media accounts had been deactivated a day before his body was recovered. His family has consistently maintained that he was murdered. His father said Mir Raza was preparing for his marriage and was excited about starting a new phase of his life. His nikah had been scheduled for August 30 at Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The latest investigation has brought renewed attention to the guest house and the people associated with it. Police are now examining medical evidence, forensic samples, CCTV footage, statements and other available material.
