Tom Holland improvised a key emotional scene in Sp…

Tom Holland has reportedly added his own creative touch to one of the most emotional moments in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with the film’s director revealing that the actor was allowed to improvise a line during filming.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that Holland asked for permission to try a different line while shooting an important scene. The actor’s spontaneous contribution ultimately became a significant part of the emotional journey of Peter Parker in the upcoming superhero film.

The scene takes place when Peter Parker visits the grave of his Aunt May, a deeply emotional moment for the character. During the filming of the sequence, Holland reportedly approached Cretton and asked if he could try adding his own line to the scripted dialogue.

According to the director, Holland delivered the additional dialogue during the take, and the moment immediately stood out. The line reflected Peter Parker’s emotional state and suggested an important change in the character’s outlook.

Cretton explained that Holland’s improvised addition became one of the elements that helped define the direction of the movie’s emotional storyline. The director reportedly viewed the actor’s contribution as one of the memorable aspects of the production.

The improvisation also demonstrates the level of creative collaboration involved in bringing the latest Spider-Man story to the screen. While superhero movies are often built around carefully planned scripts and large-scale action sequences, emotional scenes can sometimes benefit from an actor’s spontaneous interpretation of a character.

Holland has played Peter Parker across several Marvel films, and his portrayal has become closely associated with the character’s emotional development. His latest contribution suggests that his understanding of Peter Parker extends beyond simply performing the scripted dialogue.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Holland in the lead role, alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink.

The film has also generated considerable interest among Marvel fans, with attention focused on its story, returning characters and the next chapter in Peter Parker’s journey.

Holland’s improvised moment is likely to receive particular attention from fans because it adds a personal element to a major emotional scene. The director’s comments suggest that the actor’s contribution was not merely an alternative take but something that helped strengthen the emotional direction of the film.

As anticipation surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues, behind-the-scenes revelations such as this are giving fans a closer look at how some of the movie’s most important moments were developed.

Honey-trap, cyber blackmail ring busted as 3 arres…

LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore has arrested three suspected members of a honey-trap and cyber blackmailing network during a raid in Multan, officials said. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the suspects allegedly used fake identities on social media to establish contact with unsuspecting citizens before moving conversations to WhatsApp. They would then use video calls to obtain private pictures and videos, which were allegedly used to threaten victims and extort money from them. The operation was carried out on the special directions of NCCIA Punjab Director Muhammad Ali Waseem. Acting on intelligence, an NCCIA Lahore team raided a house in Basti Saleh Mahaye, near Nawabpur Road in Multan, and arrested Dil Hassan, Umar Saeed and Umair Hassan. Initial investigations suggest that the suspects had allegedly collected millions of rupees from victims through the same method. Investigators have also secured evidence relating to financial transactions and money transfers as part of the probe. Three mobile phones were recovered during the raid. The agency said an initial forensic examination revealed several WhatsApp accounts, photographs, videos and other potentially significant digital evidence. A detailed forensic analysis is now under way. During questioning, investigators also came across the names of Muhammad Farhan, Sohail alias Loli, Zahid Haraj and Shahid Haraj, along with several other individuals. Their alleged involvement and possible links to the network are being examined. The NCCIA is now working to identify additional members of the suspected network, trace the social media accounts allegedly used in the scheme, follow the money trail and identify other potential victims. NCCIA Punjab Director Muhammad Ali Waseem said operations against individuals involved in honey-trapping and cyber blackmailing would be intensified, stressing that those found involved would face legal action under the law.

Shakib ready to return to Bangladesh if assured of security

DHAKA: Bangladesh cricket star and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan has said he is prepared to return home from exile, face ongoing court proceedings and play a farewell series if the government guarantees his safety. Shakib, 39, has been living in the United States since the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government following a deadly student-led uprising in August 2024. The former Bangladesh captain remains politically linked to Hasina’s Awami League, having previously served as a lawmaker from the party. He is currently facing criminal cases in Bangladesh, including one related to the alleged killing of a protester and another involving anti-corruption authorities. Speaking to Reuters from Sri Lanka, where he is playing franchise cricket, Shakib said he wanted to return and was willing to appear before the courts. He said he would go back if the government formally assured him that adequate security would be provided. Shakib maintained that he had not committed any wrongdoing and described the murder case against him as baseless. He said the case was filed on a day in August 2024 when he was playing a match in Toronto. The cricketer also said he had previously attempted to return to Bangladesh. In late 2024, he boarded a flight after receiving assurances that he would be protected, but was reportedly instructed to turn back while the journey was underway. He eventually landed in Dubai before returning to the United States. Shakib said another planned return was blocked after he posted a birthday message for Hasina. He questioned why such a social media post should prevent him from entering his own country. The former captain also rejected suggestions that he should distance himself from Hasina or the Awami League to facilitate his return. Shakib recently appeared virtually at a press conference in Delhi alongside Hasina. Following the event, his vacant home in Bangladesh was reportedly attacked. He defended his participation, saying his message was focused on peace and Bangladesh’s progress. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Shakib must face the legal process like any other accused person and surrender before Bangladeshi courts. Meanwhile, Shakib said he still hopes to represent Bangladesh in a farewell series and possibly play at the 2027 ODI World Cup. He acknowledged that retirement was approaching but said he remained physically fit and continued to enjoy playing cricket. The cricketer also revealed that his bank accounts had been frozen for around 18 months during investigations. He said he had not seen his parents in Bangladesh for nearly two years.

Meta’s AI model breaches company system in security test gone wrong

Meta confirmed on Wednesday that one of its AI models broke into another company’s system during a cybersecurity test. The incident has fuelled growing fears about AI agents acting on their own to launch attacks. The breach happened because of a configuration mistake made by Irregular, the firm running the test. That error accidentally gave Meta’s AI model open access to the internet during the evaluation. This isn’t an isolated case either. Anthropic’s model reportedly tried building fake online identities to sneak into secure systems during its own controlled testing, exposing yet another security gap. OpenAI faced a similar problem too. Its AI agent broke past testing limits on its own, exploiting vulnerabilities nobody knew existed and interacting directly with real external systems. Meta says it’s now investigating the incident. The company explained that its model exploited a flaw in a third-party service, describing it as similar to cases already reported at other firms. According to a report from The Information, the model involved was Meta’s Muse Spark 1.1. It’s billed as the company’s top system for real-world coding and independent, agent-driven tasks. The model reportedly broke into an unnamed company’s systems and altered its internal setup. Irregular pushed back on how serious the incident actually was. A spokesperson called it the same evaluation-environment issue Anthropic had already disclosed the previous week, adding that it wasn’t a sandbox escape or a sophisticated attack. The firm said there are no unresolved issues at this stage. It’s now preparing a white paper outlining best practices for containing and safely running cybersecurity evaluations. These back-to-back incidents across three major tech firms have caught the attention of US lawmakers. Many worry that increasingly capable AI models could eventually be weaponized for real cyberattacks. A group of Republican state attorneys general has already asked OpenAI to preserve all records tied to a separate security incident involving Hugging Face. OpenAI responded by saying it’s treating the matter seriously and plans to publish a full technical report. Meanwhile, the White House has stepped in too. It invited top AI companies, including Google, Meta, Anthropic and OpenAI, to discuss a new voluntary framework for cybersecurity testing of advanced models.

Seales rocks Pakistan as West Indies tighten grip on first test

TAROUBA: Pakistan’s batting line-up came under early pressure as the visitors slipped to 25-3 while chasing a target of 211 against the West Indies on the fourth day of the opening Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Tuesday. West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales made an immediate impact with the new ball, removing Pakistan’s top order during an impressive opening spell. His early breakthroughs left the tourists struggling before lunch and handed the hosts complete control of the contest. Pakistan’s chase began on a disappointing note when opener Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for just five runs. Azan Awais also failed to settle at the crease, contributing only three runs before returning to the pavilion. With both openers dismissed inside the first five overs, Pakistan found themselves under significant pressure at 21-2. Seales continued his destructive spell by trapping Salman Ali Agha leg before wicket without allowing him to score. The dismissal reduced Pakistan to 25-3, placing the visitors in a difficult position with a challenging target still well out of reach. Experienced batter Babar Azam then joined wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in an attempt to stabilize the innings. The pair negotiated the remaining overs of the morning session without losing another wicket, providing Pakistan with some much-needed resistance after the early collapse. Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s bowlers wrapped up the West Indies’ second innings for 181, setting a victory target of 211. Veteran fast bowler Mohammad Abbas starred with the ball, producing another outstanding spell to claim his seventh five-wicket haul in Test cricket. The West Indies resumed play at 126-7, hoping their lower order could stretch the lead and make Pakistan’s chase more difficult. Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach responded with an aggressive counterattack, frustrating the Pakistani bowlers with a valuable lower-order partnership. The pair added 28 runs during the morning session to extend their stand to 61 runs. Their attacking approach pushed the West Indies’ overall lead beyond 180 runs, strengthening the hosts’ position in the match. Shamar Joseph played an entertaining innings, scoring 38 runs from just 27 deliveries. His knock featured four towering sixes and one boundary, allowing the West Indies to score valuable quick runs before Pakistan finally broke the partnership. Mohammad Ali provided the breakthrough by deceiving Joseph with a slower delivery, bringing an end to the dangerous stand. Despite the dismissal, the West Indies tail continued to add useful runs as Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican frustrated Pakistan with another steady partnership. Roach contributed 18 runs before becoming Mohammad Abbas’ fourth victim of the innings. Warrican also added an important 14 runs, helping the West Indies move their lead closer to the 200-run mark. Abbas then completed the innings by dismissing Warrican, finishing with exceptional figures of 5 wickets for 22 runs in 15.5 overs. His disciplined pace bowling proved crucial in preventing the West Indies from posting an even bigger target. Mohammad Ali and Khurram Shahzad also played important supporting roles with the ball. Ali picked up two wickets in his 14-over spell, while Khurram Shahzad claimed two scalps after bowling 15 overs. Although Pakistan succeeded in restricting the West Indies to 181 in the second innings, the visitors’ difficult start with the bat shifted the momentum back in favour of the home side. With Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan at the crease, Pakistan will rely heavily on their experienced pair to steer the chase and keep hopes of victory alive as the first Test heads toward an exciting finish.

Oil prices jump as US-Iran tensions rattle markets

Oil prices climbed sharply on Wednesday as fresh military developments involving the United States, Iran and Saudi Arabia raised fears of further escalation in the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose $3.30, or 3.9%, to $87.39 a barrel. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also gained $3.05, or 3.8%, to $82.31 a barrel. The latest increase came after the United States and Saudi Arabia carried out strikes against Iran-backed groups in Iraq. The developments followed Iran’s reported missile attack targeting US forces in the region. The renewed tensions have increased concerns about oil supplies from the Middle East. Investors are now watching closely for signs that the conflict could spread further across the Gulf. US officials said American forces intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Iran towards US military positions in the Middle East. Washington described the incident as an attempted surprise attack. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later said it had launched several ballistic missiles at a US air base and the US Central Command facility in Jordan. Saudi Arabia also confirmed that its forces had conducted targeted strikes against Iran-backed groups in Iraq. Riyadh said the strikes were carried out jointly with the US Central Command. Saudi authorities linked the operation to drone attacks targeting energy facilities in the kingdom. The developments have added to concerns over the security of critical oil infrastructure in the region. Market analysts said the latest escalation has reduced expectations of a quick easing of tensions in the Persian Gulf. Any disruption to oil production or transportation routes could put additional upward pressure on crude prices. US oil inventories have also provided support to the market. Crude stocks fell by around 3.3 million barrels during the week ending July 24, according to data cited from the American Petroleum Institute. Official inventory figures from the US Energy Information Administration are expected later on Wednesday. Traders will closely examine the data for further signs of changes in demand and supply. Meanwhile, OPEC+ could provide another boost to oil prices. Sources said the producer group is likely to pause planned increases in oil output for three months starting in October. The possible pause would come after OPEC+ completes its scheduled return of barrels that had previously been removed from the market through voluntary production cuts. For now, traders remain focused on developments between Washington and Tehran. Any further military escalation could increase concerns over regional oil supplies and push crude prices higher.
