QUETTA: Security forces continued intelligence-based operations under Operation Azm in Balochistan, carrying out another targeted raid against suspected militants in Mastung district. According to security sources, the latest operation resulted in the killing of several militants, bringing the total number of militants killed during the ongoing operation to 13.

Security sources said the operation was conducted in the Khad Kocha area of Mastung after intelligence reports indicated the presence of armed militants in the region. Troops launched a coordinated operation and engaged the suspects during the raid.

According to the sources, several militants were killed during the exchange. Officials did not disclose the exact number of militants killed in the latest action but confirmed that the overall death toll in the operation has now reached 13.

The operation also targeted militant infrastructure in the area. Security sources said multiple hideouts allegedly linked to the group referred to as Fitna al-Hindustan were destroyed. They added that dismantling these hideouts is part of broader efforts to disrupt militant activities and prevent future attacks.

During the operation, security personnel recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, explosives and materials allegedly used to manufacture improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Officials said the recovered items would be examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Sources further claimed that several militants were injured during the operation. However, the exact number of those wounded has not been confirmed, and no official details have been released regarding their identities.

Security officials said intelligence-based operations are continuing across different parts of Balochistan to eliminate militant networks and improve the overall security situation. They added that such operations are being carried out on the basis of intelligence information to target suspected militant hideouts.

According to security sources, the campaign against militant groups will continue until terrorist networks are dismantled and peace and stability are restored across the province. They reiterated the commitment of security forces to maintain pressure on armed groups through sustained intelligence-led operations.

    A 15-year-old boy was killed after a Mazda truck collided with his motorcycle near Chamra Chowrangi in Karachi’s Korangi area on Wednesday. According to Express News, the teenage motorcyclist died at the scene following the collision. His body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital for the completion of legal and medical procedures. Rescue officials identified the deceased as 15-year-old Sagar, son of Rajab. Police said the teenager was riding the motorcycle himself when the accident occurred. Korangi Industrial Area SHO Hukam Dad said the incident took place after the motorcycle was struck by a Mazda truck. Police arrested the truck driver shortly after the accident and took the vehicle into custody. Authorities have launched a further investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. The teenager was a resident of Korangi, according to police. After the completion of the necessary legal procedures, his body was handed over to his family. The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety in Karachi, particularly involving heavy vehicles and young motorcyclists. Traffic accidents involving trucks and motorcycles can have devastating consequences because of the significant difference in size and weight between the vehicles. Police are continuing to investigate the case, while further details regarding the circumstances of the collision may emerge as the investigation progresses.     The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide flood alert, warning that rising river levels and continued monsoon rainfall could lead to flooding in several parts of Pakistan through Sunday. The authority has urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas. According to the NDMA, the Indus River is currently experiencing moderate flooding at Guddu, while low flood conditions persist at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Sukkur. The Chenab River is also expected to witness moderate to high water flows at Marala, with low to moderate flows forecast at Khanki and Qadirabad. The authority further stated that the Jhelum, Ravi, and Kabul rivers, along with their tributaries, are expected to experience low to moderate flows. However, water levels in streams and tributaries connected to the Jhelum, Chenab, and Ravi rivers are likely to increase significantly due to ongoing rainfall. Hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are also expected to experience heavy water flows, raising the risk of flash flooding. Similar conditions are forecast for rain-fed streams and nullahs in central and southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. The NDMA warned that districts including Mohmand, Bajaur, Buner, Mardan, Kurram, South Waziristan, Shangla, and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could experience flooding in streams and nullahs. In northern Balochistan, the Nari, Bolan, Kangri, and Lehri rivers are also at risk of flash flooding. Urban flooding is expected in several Punjab districts, including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore, Okara, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad. Similar conditions may affect Sindh districts such as Sukkur, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Tharparkar, and Nawabshah. Cities including Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Mardan may also experience urban flooding. The NDMA has advised the public to avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers, and streams, particularly in mountainous areas where landslides, debris flows, and flash floods are more likely during the monsoon season. Travelers are encouraged to carry emergency supplies, including drinking water, dry food, a flashlight, a first-aid kit, a power bank, and emergency contact numbers. Citizens have also been urged to stay informed through the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application and follow instructions issued by local authorities to ensure their safety during the ongoing monsoon season.

    NHM begins Independence Day celebrations in Lahore

    Lahore — The National History Museum (NHM) commenced its commemorative programmes for Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day with a series of curated events. The programme began with a multi-generational panel discussion, “Making of Home: Memory, Migration, and New Beginnings,” featuring renowned human rights activist and poet Harris Khalique, award-winning filmmaker Jawad Sharif, and educator and social development practitioner Dr Shireen Zafarullah. The discussion was moderated by academic and BNU Senior Lecturer Saadia Ahmad. The discussion reflected on the experiences of the first generation, who experienced displacement firsthand and grew up in its immediate aftermath; the second generation, who established families, careers, and communities in the cities shaped by Partition; and the third generation, which continues to shape Pakistan through emerging fields including technology, business, and culture. A high point of the celebrations was a dramatic reading of letters from the 1947 Partition exchanged between families, performed by artist Adeel Afzal. The performance brought the audience personal accounts and lived experiences from 1947 through the preserved correspondence of those who witnessed the events. The reading received houseful attendance of people from various walks of life. Speaking on the occasion, NHM Director Awais Malik stated, “1947 Partition and Independence continue to be defining factors of our national identity. Preserving and sharing personal memories from these events remains a core mission of the museum.” In accordance with its mandate to preserve and document Pakistan’s national history, NHM also established a Community Digitisation Station, providing visitors with an opportunity to learn digital preservation of family photographs, documents, and other historical materials. The initiative seeks to recognise personal and family archives as an important component of the country’s broader historical identity. The Independence Day commemorations will continue on 14 August, when NHM will remain open during extended hours and offer exclusive Night Tours in addition to its regular museum experience. The Community Digitisation Station and a range of educational and interactive activities will remain available for children and families.

If the film maintains its current momentum, it is expected to overtake Cameron’s blockbuster within days. The achievement would add yet another milestone to what has already been a record-breaking theatrical run. “Brand New Day” became the first film in the Spider-Man franchise to cross $2 billion worldwide, reaching that mark in just three weekends, the second-fastest film ever to do so, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame.” Its domestic performance has been equally striking. The film has now earned more than $854.9 million in the US and Canada, putting it on track to overtake “Avengers: Endgame” as the second-highest-grossing domestic release of all time, behind only “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The film’s remarkable run began with a record-setting opening weekend. It debuted to around $360 million domestically, surpassing “Avengers: Endgame” for the biggest domestic opening in history, while also posting the second-biggest global opening ever at roughly $932 million worldwide. It has continued breaking records since, crossing $1 billion worldwide in just six days, the second-fastest film to do so, before going on to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 overall.
