Using a gentle scrub can help remove these dead cells leaving your skin feeling cleaner and smoother.

You can make simple face scrubs at home with everyday ingredients.  However if you have sensitive skin always do a patch test before trying any homemade remedy.

Rice face scrub

Mix finely ground rice with honey aloe vera gel or coconut oil to make a smooth paste.  Gently massage it onto your face for a few minutes then rinse with water.

Barley face scrub

Combine roasted barley flour with milk or almond oil to create a soft paste.  Apply it to your face and gently massage before washing it off. It may help your skin feel fresh and soft.

Gram flour (Besan) scrub

Mix gram flour with a small pinch of turmeric and a few drops of lemon juice.  Add milk or water to make a paste. Apply it to your face let it dry slightly and then rinse with water.

Oat scrub for dry skin

Mix oat flour with buttermilk to make a creamy paste. Apply it to your face leave it on for a few minutes then gently massage and wash it off with lukewarm water.

Tips for safe exfoliation

The skin on your face is delicate so avoid rubbing it too hard.  Exfoliating once or twice a week is usually enough for most people. If you notice redness irritation itching or acne getting worse stop using the scrub and consult a dermatologist if the problem continues.

  • Experts warn against extra soft pillows

A soft pillow may feel comfortable at first but health experts say it is not always the best option for good sleep. They explain that a pillow should not only feel soft in the store but also provide proper support for your head and neck throughout the night. Physiotherapists say many people choose pillows after trying them for only a few minutes. However the real test comes after several hours of sleep. As your head presses down on the pillow it can lose its shape. If it does not give enough support your neck and spine may become misaligned leading to pain or stiffness in the morning. Allan Fu, a physiotherapist and lecturer at the University of Sydney says many people judge a pillow by how comfortable it feels at first. He believes the most important thing is whether the pillow keeps your head and neck properly supported all night. A short test in a store is not enough to know how well a pillow will perform. Experts say the average human head weighs about 4.5 kilograms which means a pillow is under constant pressure while you sleep. If it is too soft it may not support your head and neck properly. That is why comfort should not be the only thing to consider when buying a pillow. Research suggests that latex and memory foam pillows may help reduce neck pain because they keep their shape better and provide steady support. Feather and synthetic fiber pillows can also be used but experts recommend choosing firmer versions as very soft ones lose their support more quickly. Experts also advise against judging a new pillow after just one night. Feather and synthetic pillows usually settle into their normal shape within a day or two while memory foam pillows may take several weeks to fully adjust to your body. When buying a pillow experts recommend lying on it for a few minutes if possible.  A pillow that feels slightly firmer or a little higher at first may become more comfortable with regular use. They say proper support is more important than softness for keeping your neck healthy.

  • Everything you need to know about air turbulence

Many people have experienced a flight suddenly shaking while flying thousands of feet above the ground.  It can feel as if the airplane has hit a large bump in the sky, leaving passengers frightened. This is called air turbulence a common part of air travel that is usually harmless but can sometimes be severe. What causes turbulence? Airplanes fly through different layers of moving air called air currents.  When the speed or direction of these air currents changes suddenly the aircraft passes through rough air causing it to shake. This is known as turbulence. Aviation experts say that most turbulence is mild and modern airplanes are built to handle forces much stronger than those experienced during normal flights. In most cases turbulence does not cause an aircraft to crash. The biggest risk is to passengers who are not wearing their seat belts. Types of air turbulence There are several types of turbulence Clear Air Turbulence (CAT) This is one of the hardest types to predict because it happens in clear skies and often cannot be detected by weather radar. It usually occurs between 30,000 and 40,000 feet due to fast moving jet streams. Wake Turbulence. This happens when a large aircraft leaves powerful swirling air behind it and another plane flies through it. Thermal turbulence On hot days warm air rises from the ground. If an aircraft flies through these rising air currents passengers may feel bumps. Frontal turbulence This occurs when warm and cold air masses meet often during storms rain or cloudy weather. Can turbulence be dangerous? Turbulence is usually more dangerous for people than for the airplane itself. Passengers who are standing or not wearing seat belts can be thrown from their seats and may suffer injuries to the head neck or bones. Strong turbulence can also cause luggage food carts and other loose items inside the cabin to move around increasing the risk of injury. Some passengers may also experience fear or anxiety during the shaking. In rare cases pilots may change the flight path or make a precautionary landing if the turbulence is unusually severe. How to stay safe Aviation experts recommend keeping your seat belt fastened whenever you are seated even if the seat belt sign is off. This is the best way to stay safe if unexpected turbulence occurs. Scientists also say that climate change may be increasing the number of clear air turbulence events in some parts of the world. To improve safety airlines use advanced weather forecasts satellite data and warning systems to avoid areas with severe turbulence whenever possible. Although turbulence can feel frightening experts stress that modern aircraft are designed to withstand very strong air movements. Staying calm following the crew’s instructions and keeping your seat belt fastened are the best ways to stay safe during a turbulent flight.
