The 99th anniversary of the founding of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was commemorated at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, with senior Pakistani and Chinese officials reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong attended the ceremony as the chief guest. China’s Defence Attaché Major General Wang Zhong, officials from the Chinese Embassy, and senior officers from Pakistan’s armed forces were also present at the event.

Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir welcomed the Chinese delegation and congratulated the PLA on completing 99 years of service. He praised the Chinese military’s role in strengthening China’s defence capabilities, supporting national development and contributing to international peace and security.

Highlighting the close relationship between Pakistan and China, Field Marshal Munir said the friendship between the two countries is based on mutual trust and has remained strong despite changing regional and global challenges.

He described the Pakistan Armed Forces and the PLA as reliable partners, saying both sides share a commitment to regional stability, peace and the protection of common strategic interests.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Jiang Zaidong thanked the Pakistani leadership for hosting the event and appreciated the role of the Pakistan Armed Forces. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s sacrifices and efforts in the fight against terrorism.

The Chinese ambassador reaffirmed Beijing’s support for Islamabad and expressed commitment to further expanding the “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between the two countries.

The ceremony reflected the longstanding defence ties between Pakistan and China, with both sides emphasizing continued cooperation, strategic coordination and joint efforts to promote regional security.

    Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Akamatsu Shuichi has reaffirmed Tokyo’s commitment to further strengthening its longstanding relationship with Pakistan. In a message ahead of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day, the Japanese envoy conveyed greetings to the Pakistani government and people on behalf of Japan. Shuichi concluded his message by expressing confidence in the continued bond between the two nations and saying, “Japan-Pakistan Dosti Zindabad.” The ambassador’s message comes shortly after Pakistan and Japan signed a grant agreement worth 350 million Japanese yen, equivalent to around $2.2 million, to strengthen the Human Resources Development Scholarship Programme. The initiative, known as the JDS programme, will expand opportunities for Pakistani civil servants to receive postgraduate education and professional training in Japan. Under the agreement, 17 federal government officials will receive scholarships. Sixteen will pursue master’s degrees, while one official will undertake a PhD programme. Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Hameer Karim and Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi signed the Record of Discussions for the programme. Senior Joint Secretary Miran Mohiuddin Soomro and JICA Chief Representative Yusuke Shinazaki signed the grant agreement. The scholarship programme is expected to contribute to human resource development and strengthen institutional links between Pakistan and Japan.

Pakistan also celebrated success in the Under-12 competition, where Mustafa Farhan finished as runner-up. One of the most remarkable performances came from Pakistan’s youngest competitor, Taimur Wasim, who won the Under-10 world title. Taimur’s latest triumph adds another chapter to his rapidly growing Scrabble record. The young player had already impressed last year by winning the Under-8 world championship, and he has now moved up an age group while continuing his winning run.     DHAKA: Bangladesh has signalled that it could consider joining the emerging economic or defence framework involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, opening a potentially significant new chapter in regional diplomacy and security cooperation. Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir said Dhaka was taking a positive view of the possibility of becoming part of a framework involving the three countries. His comments come only weeks after Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. The agreement, signed in Makkah on Aug 7, commits the three countries to strengthening collective security and defence cooperation. It also states that an armed attack against any one of the three signatories would be regarded as an attack against all three. Kabir, speaking to Bangladesh’s state news agency, indicated that Dhaka would examine the idea through the lens of its own national interests and the rapidly changing global economic and trade environment. “The government is following a Bangladesh First policy,” Kabir said, according to reports, stressing that national interests remain at the centre of Dhaka’s foreign policy. The remarks are particularly noteworthy because Bangladesh has recently been working to strengthen practical ties with Pakistan. Kabir said the two countries were seeking greater cooperation in trade and people-to-people contacts, suggesting that economic engagement could form an important part of the relationship. For Pakistan, Bangladesh’s interest could give the Makkah framework a wider South Asian dimension. For Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, Dhaka’s possible participation could also expand the reach of an arrangement that the signatories have described as defensive rather than directed against any particular country. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the agreement is open to other friendly countries seeking peace, prosperity and stability in the region. Turkish officials have also stressed that the pact does not identify a common enemy and is intended to strengthen defence cooperation and collective deterrence. Bangladesh’s possible move comes as Dhaka is also deepening its relationship with Saudi Arabia. Kabir said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Saudi Arabia following an invitation from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The visit could provide an opportunity for discussions on economic cooperation, regional security and Bangladesh’s possible role in broader regional frameworks. For now, Dhaka has not announced any formal decision to join the defence agreement. But its positive signal is already attracting attention, particularly because Bangladesh’s participation could reshape the strategic picture across South Asia and the wider Muslim world. The next step will likely depend on how Dhaka assesses the proposed framework against its national interests, economic priorities and wider foreign-policy objectives.

    HIV-positive children in Pakistan reach 7,500

    The number of children living with HIV in Pakistan has risen to approximately 7,500, according to the latest figures released by the federal Ministry of Health. The data highlights the growing need for improved healthcare, nutrition, and long-term support for affected children across the country. Official statistics show that around 62,000 HIV patients are currently receiving treatment in Pakistan. Children account for nearly 12 percent of all registered patients, reflecting the significant impact of the disease on younger age groups. According to the ministry, Sindh has emerged as the province with the highest number of HIV-positive children. Nearly 4,200 children infected with the virus have been registered in the province, making it the country’s largest concentration of pediatric HIV cases. In response to the situation, the federal government has sought nutritional assistance from UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and Nutrition International. The support is aimed at improving the health and nutritional status of children living with HIV. Authorities said a special program has been planned to provide nutritional supplements to HIV-positive children. Those suffering from severe malnutrition will receive therapeutic food along with continuous medical monitoring to improve their overall health and treatment outcomes. The government also plans to provide guidance to parents and caregivers on meeting the nutritional needs of children living with HIV. Health experts believe that proper nutrition plays a critical role in strengthening immunity and supporting the effectiveness of treatment. Medical experts said children infected with HIV require 10 to 20 percent more energy and protein than healthy children of the same age. They stressed that addressing malnutrition can significantly improve recovery, enhance the effectiveness of treatment, and help HIV-positive children lead healthier lives.

    Ariana Grande is taking a firm stand against the unauthorized leaks of her unreleased music and private creative materials. The Grammy-winning singer has filed a lawsuit against unidentified individuals, accusing them of orchestrating a years-long hacking campaign that targeted people within her professional circle and resulted in the release of confidential content never meant for the public.  According to court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on July 27, Grande’s lawsuit names John Doe 1 and John Does 2 through 100 as defendants. The singer alleges that the individuals illegally accessed digital accounts belonging to photographers, producers and other close collaborators through phishing schemes and other hacking methods. The complaint claims the hackers stole unreleased songs, photographs, videos and audio recordings documenting Grande’s creative process.  Grande’s legal team argues that the stolen files were never intended for public release and that some of the material was sold on the dark web for significant amounts of money. The lawsuit further claims that 45 unreleased songs were leaked in 2023 alone and that hundreds of similar leaks have affected the singer since the beginning of her music career in 2011. According to the complaint, the repeated breaches have caused “substantial and irreparable harm” to both her career and her personal privacy.  The singer is not only seeking damages but is also asking the court to help identify the anonymous individuals behind the alleged cyberattacks. By obtaining subpoenas, her legal team hopes to trace the hackers’ digital footprints and hold them accountable for what the lawsuit describes as an unlawful invasion of privacy and intellectual property theft.  A source close to Grande told People that the legal action goes beyond her personal case. The source said the lawsuit is intended to protect artists’ rights and discourage future attacks on musicians and other creators. “Artists deserve the right to control how and when their art is shared with the world,” the source said, emphasizing that unauthorized leaks undermine the creative process.  Grande has previously spoken out against music leaks. In a 2024 interview, she warned those responsible for leaking her unreleased song “Fantasize” that there would be consequences, famously saying, “I’ll see you in jail, literally.” Her latest lawsuit demonstrates that she is now following through on that warning.  As the legal battle unfolds, Grande’s case highlights the growing challenges artists face in protecting their work in the digital age. The outcome could have wider implications for how the entertainment industry combats cybercrime, safeguards unreleased content and defends creators’ rights in an increasingly connected world.
