Two arrested in Rs220m Karachi heist

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a Rs220 million theft in Karachi, apprehending them from Jhang after tracing their alleged involvement in a series of criminal activities across Punjab and Sindh.

According to the spokesperson for the DIG Operations, police arrested suspect Mehtab along with his relative, Abdul Rehman, during an operation in Jhang.

The spokesperson said Mehtab has 18 previous cases of theft and burglary registered against him. Investigators have also linked him to a major robbery in Karachi’s Saddar area in April, in which valuables worth around Rs220 million were reportedly stolen.

Police said the two suspects had allegedly carried out thefts in several other cities, including Jhang, Faisalabad and Rahim Yar Khan.

During the arrest operation, officers recovered a 9mm pistol and ammunition from Abdul Rehman, according to police.

Authorities also recovered stolen property from the suspects that allegedly belonged to a theft case registered at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the suspects’ involvement in other criminal cases and to trace any additional stolen property.

Rana slams Naqvi’s ‘confusing’ provinces rem…

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, said it was true that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had instructed party leaders not to respond to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent statements. He added that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) strongly disagreed with both the content and tone of Naqvi’s remarks. Speaking on a television programme, Rana Sanaullah described Mohsin Naqvi’s comments as “meaningless” and lacking context. He said he had listened to Naqvi’s speech but could not understand what message he was trying to convey. “It appeared that he wanted to make a significant point but failed to explain it properly. Once he made the statement, his subsequent remarks contradicted one another. I simply could not understand what he was saying or why he was saying it,” Rana Sanaullah said. He stressed that whenever a person makes a public statement, it reflects their personal opinion, adding that it was up to Mohsin Naqvi to clarify the intent behind his remarks and take responsibility for their interpretation. Responding to Naqvi’s proposal regarding the creation of new administrative units or provinces, Rana Sanaullah said such matters could not be decided merely through public statements. “You cannot simply talk about new provinces and expect them to come into existence. The Constitution clearly defines the procedure for creating new provinces or administrative units,” he said. He maintained that the issue should first be debated in Parliament, while the final decision would rest with the leadership of the political parties. Rana Sanaullah recalled that during the PML-N government in Punjab from 2013 to 2018, the party had formally proposed the creation of new provinces. He said he had personally presented both the resolution and the proposal for establishing a commission to examine the matter. He explained that a national commission would have to be formed to review all aspects of creating new provinces, including financial resources, administrative arrangements and constitutional requirements. “The commission would also need to consult on representation in the National Assembly, provincial assemblies and the Senate. This is a highly complex issue that requires serious deliberation by experienced policymakers,” he said. Rana Sanaullah added that Pakistan could adopt smaller provinces, a stronger local government system, or even both, but such decisions should be made collectively by political parties after thorough consultation

Jennifer Aniston’s changing priorities spark con…

Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. According to recent reports, the Friends star has been shifting her priorities away from work and placing a greater focus on her personal relationships, a decision that has reportedly prompted concern among some of those closest to her. While Aniston has not publicly addressed the claims, insiders suggest the actress is embracing a slower pace after years of balancing an intense Hollywood career.  A source claimed that Aniston’s priorities have “completely shifted,” with more of her time now dedicated to her relationship with boyfriend Jim Curtis. The report suggests that some friends have advised the actress to “pump the brakes,” expressing concern that she may be making significant life changes too quickly. However, those close to Aniston also acknowledge that she appears genuinely happy and is making decisions she believes are best for her future.  The reported shift comes after Aniston has openly spoken about the importance of achieving a healthier work-life balance. In previous interviews with People, the Emmy-winning actress admitted that she has long considered herself “a bit of a workaholic” and recognized the need to make time for herself after several demanding years. She explained that she has become more intentional about scheduling breaks and protecting her personal time to avoid burnout.  Over the past few years, Aniston has remained one of Hollywood’s busiest stars. In addition to starring in and executive producing Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, she has continued expanding her successful haircare brand, LolaVie, while also pursuing new film and television projects. Her packed schedule has left little room for downtime, making her recent focus on personal happiness understandable.  Despite speculation that her career could take a back seat, there is no indication that Aniston plans to retire from acting. Instead, reports suggest she is simply becoming more selective about the projects she chooses, allowing herself greater flexibility to enjoy life outside of work. Friends and colleagues may have differing opinions about her changing priorities, but Aniston has consistently emphasized that maintaining balance is essential to both her personal well-being and professional success.  Throughout her decades-long career, Aniston has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most respected and reliable performers. From her iconic role as Rachel Green on Friends to her award-winning performance in The Morning Show, she has demonstrated remarkable consistency and longevity. That success gives her the freedom to make choices based on fulfillment rather than constant professional ambition. Whether the reported concerns from her inner circle are justified remains unclear, as they are based on anonymous sources rather than public statements from the actress herself. What is evident, however, is that Jennifer Aniston has become increasingly vocal about protecting her peace, valuing meaningful relationships, and creating a healthier balance between work and life. If those priorities continue to shape her future, they may ultimately strengthen both her personal happiness and her enduring career.  Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. Supreme Court orders early hearing of Imran’s me…

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday accepted a chamber appeal filed by former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The court directed that his petition be fixed for hearing before a Supreme Court bench at the earliest. Imran Khan has requested the court to order his transfer from Adiala Jail to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment. He has also sought permission for regular meetings with his family members, personal physicians and legal counsel. In addition, he wants his medical reports to be shared with his family. The appeal challenged an earlier decision by the Supreme Court Registrar, who had returned the petitions after raising objections. The Registrar’s Office said the petitions were incomplete because they did not include a signed power of attorney. During Friday’s proceedings, Advocate Uzair Karamat Bhandari appeared before Chief Justice Yahya Afridi in chambers on behalf of Imran Khan. After hearing the arguments, the chief justice declared the Registrar’s objections ineffective and directed the legal team to submit a signed power of attorney. The Registrar’s Office was also instructed to assign a regular case number to the petition so it could be listed for hearing without unnecessary delay. The Supreme Court further ordered that a separate petition filed by Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, should be heard together with his own case. In the appeal, Imran Khan argued that the Registrar had exceeded his administrative powers by deciding the maintainability of the petition. His legal team maintained that such questions should be decided by judges because they involve constitutional and legal interpretation rather than administrative scrutiny. The petition also requested that Imran Khan be examined by doctors of his own choice. The names included Dr Khurram Mirza, Dr Asim Yusuf, Dr Faisal Sultan and Dr Samina Niazi. It further asked the court to order his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a detailed medical examination and treatment. The petition also sought uninterrupted access to his personal doctors, family members and lawyers during his imprisonment and treatment. Dr Uzma Khan has also challenged an Islamabad High Court ruling that refused to order Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital. She also questioned the decision denying his family access to his medical information and visits by his personal physicians. In her petition, Dr Uzma said Imran Khan and his wife are currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, while his two sons live abroad. She said she is his closest immediate family member in Pakistan and, as a medical doctor, is deeply concerned about his health. She argued that she has the legal standing to pursue the case on his behalf. Imran Khan has remained in custody since August 2023. He is serving a 14-year prison sentence in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. He is also receiving treatment for right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition that was diagnosed earlier this year. His medical treatment has become a major political issue in recent months. Opposition leaders have repeatedly accused the government of failing to ensure proper medical care and denying him access to his personal doctors. They have also demanded his transfer to Shifa International Hospital

Pakistani Mountaineer Sohail Sakhi’s body shifte…

The body of Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi, who lost his life in a tragic avalanche accident on Broad Peak, has been transported to Skardu by an Army Aviation helicopter. Sohail Sakhi was among the climbers caught in a devastating avalanche that struck Broad Peak in the early hours of July 31. The incident occurred during the night between July 30 and 31, when a massive avalanche swept across the mountain, leaving 10 mountaineers missing, including nine foreign climbers. Following the accident, rescue and recovery efforts were launched in the difficult and dangerous conditions of the Broad Peak region. The mountain, located in the Karakoram range of Gilgit-Baltistan, is one of the world’s highest peaks and is known for its challenging terrain, extreme weather and unpredictable climbing conditions. Sohail Sakhi was among the climbers who could not survive the disaster. His body was recovered from the mountain and later transported to Skardu, an important hub for mountaineering expeditions in the region. The use of an Army Aviation helicopter helped facilitate the transfer of the body from the remote mountainous area. The tragedy has caused grief among the mountaineering community in Pakistan and abroad. Broad Peak attracts climbers from different parts of the world every year, but the extreme environment can make rescue operations extremely challenging. Avalanches, sudden changes in weather, freezing temperatures and difficult terrain pose serious risks even to experienced mountaineers. The July 31 incident involved 10 missing climbers, nine of whom were foreign nationals. Rescue teams and authorities continued efforts to locate and recover those affected by the avalanche. The recovery operation was complicated by the harsh weather and the dangerous conditions at high altitude. The bodies of seven climbers who died in the accident had already been transported to their respective countries. Their repatriation was carried out after recovery operations and the completion of necessary procedures. The transfer of Sohail Sakhi’s body to Skardu marks an important step in the process of returning the deceased Pakistani climber to his family. Further arrangements will be made for the transportation of his body to his hometown, where his family and friends are expected to receive him. The incident once again highlights the risks associated with high-altitude mountaineering in the Karakoram. Despite advances in climbing equipment, communication systems and rescue technology, climbers continue to face life-threatening dangers when attempting some of the world’s highest and most difficult peaks. Sohail Sakhi’s death is a significant loss for Pakistan’s mountaineering community. His passing has drawn attention to the courage and determination of climbers who undertake expeditions in some of the most challenging environments on Earth. Authorities and rescue teams remain focused on recovery and repatriation efforts following the Broad Peak avalanche. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of high-altitude expeditions and the importance of safety, weather monitoring and coordinated rescue operations in mountainous regions.
