PTI rejects AJK polls, demands probe into killings

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday rejected the recently concluded Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, alleging that the electoral process lacked transparency and calling for an independent investigation into the killings and violence reported during the polls.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and former AJK prime minister Sardar Qayyum Niazi accused the authorities of suppressing public opinion and said the events surrounding the elections had damaged both democracy and the Kashmir cause.

Niazi said the people of Kashmir had a long history of supporting Pakistan and deserved to have their voices heard through a free and fair electoral process. He alleged that peaceful protesters had faced excessive force despite demonstrating without violence.

“They remained peaceful even while facing bullets and batons,” he said, adding that the government should have engaged in dialogue rather than confrontation.

Questioning the decision to conduct polling in three phases, Niazi argued that AJK’s relatively small population did not justify such an arrangement. He contrasted the process with Pakistan’s nationwide elections, saying the phased schedule had raised serious questions among voters.

PTI Chairman Gohar described the July 27 elections as “a fraud” and maintained that democracy could not function if citizens were prevented from expressing their views through peaceful protest. He said public grievances should be addressed through dialogue instead of force.

The PTI chief also criticised major political parties, accusing them of politicising the post-election situation instead of focusing on the concerns of the people. According to Gohar, the low voter turnout reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the existing political system.

He further claimed that the election results had failed to inspire public confidence and urged all stakeholders to prioritise transparency, accountability and democratic values.

Calling for an impartial inquiry, PTI demanded that those responsible for the reported killings and use of force be identified and held accountable. Party leaders said an independent investigation was necessary to establish the facts, ensure justice for affected families and restore public trust in democratic institutions.

The party concluded by urging authorities to avoid further escalation and resolve political disputes through dialogue, warning that prolonged instability in AJK could undermine both democratic credibility and Pakistan’s longstanding position on the Kashmir issue.

Tiny kurtas and Y2K trends dominate summer fashion

Pakistani fashion influencers are embracing a fresh wave of nostalgic style this summer, with Y2K-inspired outfits, tiny kurtas, polka dots and fusion dressing emerging as some of the season’s biggest trends. Rather than recreating early-2000s fashion exactly as it was, creators are blending vintage influences with contemporary styling, giving classic pieces a modern update. Across Instagram, influencers are moving away from heavily embellished looks in favour of versatile wardrobe staples that can be styled for both casual and dressy occasions. The result is a mix of timeless silhouettes, tailored basics and playful colours that reflect nostalgia while remaining practical for everyday wear. One of the standout trends making a strong comeback is the tiny kurta. Popular during the late 1990s and early 2000s, the short kurta has returned with a modern twist. Fashion creators are pairing it with straight-leg jeans, tailored trousers, capri pants and flowing skirts, creating looks that combine traditional Eastern wear with contemporary styling. The trend has reminded many fashion enthusiasts of classic Bollywood wardrobes from the early 2000s while fitting naturally into today’s minimalist aesthetic. Instead of heavily embroidered designs, influencers are opting for clean cuts and understated styling that allow the silhouette to take centre stage. Another pattern enjoying renewed popularity is the polka dot. After several seasons dominated by florals and abstract prints, the timeless motif has returned on dresses, matching co-ord sets and separates. The classic print offers a vintage-inspired feel without appearing outdated, proving that certain fashion elements continue to return in new forms. Summer wardrobes are also embracing a colour palette inspired by Y2K fashion. Shades such as butter yellow, cherry red, chocolate brown, powder blue and soft pink are appearing frequently across influencer feeds, bringing warmth and nostalgia to seasonal outfits. Accessories like headbands and capri trousers have also quietly re-entered fashion conversations, although in more refined ways than their original early-2000s versions. While nostalgic pieces are attracting attention, wardrobe basics remain equally important this season. Oversized button-down shirts, classic waistcoats, relaxed tailoring and crisp white shirts have become essential styling pieces. Influencers are layering these staples over denim or pairing them with tailored trousers to create polished everyday looks. Perhaps the defining feature of this summer’s fashion movement is fusion dressing. Rather than separating Eastern and Western clothing, creators are combining them effortlessly. Tiny kurtas are styled with denim, waistcoats are worn with skirts, blazers are layered over traditional separates, while shalwars are paired with fitted tank tops and contemporary accessories. Instead of chasing fast-changing microtrends, many Pakistani influencers appear to be focusing on clothing that offers longevity and versatility. By blending nostalgic Y2K influences with classic tailoring and traditional silhouettes, they are creating wardrobes that feel both fashionable and wearable, making this summer less about dramatic statements and more about timeless personal style.

Weekly inflation hits 9.66% amid price surge

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s weekly inflation increased during the latest reporting period as higher fuel and food prices pushed up the cost of living, according to the latest report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The report showed that weekly inflation rose by 0.91%, while the country’s annual inflation rate reached 9.66%, indicating that prices of essential goods continue to remain under pressure despite declines in a few commodities. According to the Bureau of Statistics, prices of 22 essential commodities increased during the past week, while eight items became cheaper and 21 items recorded no change. The sharpest increase was recorded in petroleum products. High-speed diesel became 15.87% more expensive, while the price of petrol increased by 5.23%. The rise in fuel prices is expected to affect transportation costs and may also increase the prices of other goods in the coming weeks. Among food items, tomatoes recorded the highest increase, with prices rising 39.92% in just one week. Egg prices increased by 7.31%, adding to household food expenses. The report also showed that the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) increased by 0.91%, while potatoes became 3.70% more expensive. Prices of garlic, beef and several other essential food items also registered increases during the week. Although inflation remained on the rise, consumers received limited relief in the prices of a few commodities. Chicken prices fell by 4.66%, making it one of the biggest weekly declines among food products. Bananas became 1.72% cheaper, while prices of sugar, rice and different varieties of pulses also recorded decreases. Economists say rising fuel prices are one of the major reasons behind the increase in weekly inflation because higher transportation and production costs often lead to price increases across various sectors of the economy. The latest inflation figures suggest that many households continue to face pressure from the rising cost of essential goods, particularly food and fuel. While price reductions in some commodities have provided modest relief, overall inflation remains elevated due to continued increases in several key household items.

For now, fans will have to wait for the official premiere to see how these tensions, if any, play out on screen.

Trump’s look-alike spotted behind president sparks internet frenzy

President Donald Trump has a doppelganger, and the internet can not stop talking about it. A mystery man bearing a striking resemblance to Trump has gone viral online. His face does not actually look like Trump’s but his height, posture, and signature style all seem to match perfectly. The clip first caught attention during a World Cup event. Trump was speaking to reporters about the tournament’s final and oddly enough, his words were not what stole the spotlight. It was the man standing behind him who grabbed everyone’s focus. Jon Stewart picked up on the moment during a segment on The Daily Show. He could not hide his shock at the resemblance and jokingly asked if there was a backup version of Trump on standby. He kept replaying the clip, clearly stunned by how much the man’s build and stance matched the president’s. Stewart even joked he was not sure which one was the real Trump anymore. The clip quickly spread across social media, and users had their own theories. Some pointed to a popular show called Inside Job, which features a fictional robotic clone of a president. One viewer even suggested fans check it out, calling some of its ideas surprisingly close to reality. Other users had simpler explanations. Someone suggested the man was likely a body double hired for security reasons. Another commenter guessed the man could be John Solomon, a controversial political figure known for his election-related claims tied to the White House. Despite the wave of guesses, most people online landed on one theory. Many believe the man is actually Viktor Knavs, Melania Trump’s father. Reports note that Knavs was indeed present at the World Cup final, which lines up with the timing of the viral clip. Still, nobody has officially confirmed who the man really is. The White House has not commented on the viral footage, and the mystery man himself has not come forward. For now, the internet is left buzzing with speculation, memes, and half-joking conspiracy theories. Whether it is a security double, a family member, or simply an odd coincidence, the resemblance has proven impossible to ignore. One thing is certain, the video has given social media plenty to talk about this week.
