McConnell out of hospital but not yet cleared to r…

US Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from hospital but is still not “medically cleared” to return to work in the Senate, his doctors have confirmed, as the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican continues intensive physical therapy following a fall and a mild case of pneumonia .

“I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders,” McConnell said in a statement shared by his office on Monday . His office released a photo taken on July 26 showing McConnell smiling alongside his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao .

McConnell’s office did not provide a timeline for his return, and he remains at a rehabilitation center . The senator will not be able to attend an upcoming celebration in western Kentucky, the statement added .

According to a statement from his medical team, McConnell has maintained “a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls” since his discharge from hospital care .

The statement noted that “his bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility,” and that he is “not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office” .

Since his admission to hospital in mid-June, there has been limited communication and detail from McConnell and his office about his condition, leading to widespread speculation about his absence in Washington and on social media .

McConnell, who holds the title of the longest-serving Senate party leader in US history, has faced a number of health challenges in recent years, including previous falls and episodes of public freezing during press conferences . His extended absence comes at a critical time for Senate Republicans, with key legislative battles and leadership negotiations ongoing .

The 23-year-old singer explained that the song came together remarkably quickly, something that rarely happens in her creative process. “I feel like writing Honeybee was really fun and it happened in a really short amount of time,” Rodrigo shared. She added that there are rare moments when a song seems to write itself, and Honeybee was one of those magical experiences.  The singer went on to reveal that listening to the finished version left her in tears because it perfectly reflected her emotions at that point in her life. According to Rodrigo, the song captured exactly what she was feeling, making it one of the most authentic pieces she has ever created. That emotional connection is what makes Honeybee so significant to her personally.  Honeybee appears on Rodrigo’s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which explores the highs and lows of her first serious adult relationship. Across the 13-track record, the singer navigates themes of romance, vulnerability, uncertainty, heartbreak and personal growth, with Honeybee representing one of the album’s sweetest yet most emotionally layered moments.  During the fan Q&A, Rodrigo also offered a glimpse into her creative process. She explained that songwriting has changed the way she views everyday life, saying she constantly notices small moments that could inspire future lyrics. To ensure no idea is forgotten, she keeps a running list of thoughts and observations in the Notes app on her phone, ready to revisit whenever inspiration strikes.  The event also celebrated Rodrigo’s upcoming collaboration with LEGO, featuring collectible sets inspired by her albums, iconic performances and signature imagery. The partnership marks the first time LEGO has created multiple dedicated sets for a music artist, highlighting Rodrigo’s growing influence beyond the music industry.  As fans eagerly await live performances from her latest album, Rodrigo’s candid confession about Honeybee has only strengthened their appreciation for the deeply personal storytelling that has become her trademark. For the singer, the song is more than just another track—it’s a snapshot of a genuine emotion, preserved through music and shared with the world.  Olivia Rodrigo has shared a heartfelt insight into the creation of her latest song, Honeybee, revealing that it remains one of the most meaningful tracks she has ever written. Iran-US economic pressure war intensifies over Strait of Hormuz

KARACHI: The economic pressure battle between Iran and the United States is intensifying, with both sides seeking to force the other to back down. The key question now is which side will yield first under mounting economic pressure. According to The Wall Street Journal, the conflict between Iran and the US has expanded beyond the military front and turned into an intense economic confrontation. Both countries are using financial and economic measures in an attempt to gain leverage over the other. The Trump administration has increased sanctions and economic pressure on Iran. Washington has also made lowering global oil prices one of its key objectives in the conflict. US officials are reportedly considering imposing unusually severe financial sanctions on Iran. The measures are aimed at putting greater pressure on Tehran and forcing it to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments. Iran, meanwhile, believes that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and persistently high global oil prices could eventually increase pressure on Washington. Tehran expects the economic impact of higher oil prices to push the US to reconsider or soften its policy towards Iran. The developments have added a major economic dimension to the ongoing confrontation between the two countries. Both Washington and Tehran appear to be relying on economic pressure as a tool to achieve their strategic objectives.

Mali junta pardons French national sentenced over alleged coup plot

Malian junta leader President Assimi Goïta has granted a presidential pardon to French national Yann Vezilier, who was serving a 20-year prison sentence following allegations of orchestrating a coup attempt against the military government. Vezilier was detained last year alongside several Malian military officers and political figures. Authorities accused him of acting on behalf of French intelligence services to destabilize the regime in Bamako. France’s Foreign Ministry consistently rejected the espionage allegations as unfounded. Malian state officials announced that the clemency order includes Vezilier’s immediate deportation from Malian territory. The unexpected decision comes during a period of ongoing political instability and severe security challenges, with insurgent groups expanding blockades around key cities, including the capital, Bamako.
