McConnell out of hospital but not yet cleared to r…

US Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from hospital but is still not “medically cleared” to return to work in the Senate, his doctors have confirmed, as the 84-year-old Kentucky Republican continues intensive physical therapy following a fall and a mild case of pneumonia .

“I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders,” McConnell said in a statement shared by his office on Monday . His office released a photo taken on July 26 showing McConnell smiling alongside his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao .

McConnell’s office did not provide a timeline for his return, and he remains at a rehabilitation center . The senator will not be able to attend an upcoming celebration in western Kentucky, the statement added .

According to a statement from his medical team, McConnell has maintained “a strenuous course of physical therapy and rehabilitation, including multiple sessions a day designed to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls” since his discharge from hospital care .

The statement noted that “his bout with childhood polio continues to be a significant factor in his mobility,” and that he is “not yet medically cleared to leave the rehab facility and return to the office” .

Since his admission to hospital in mid-June, there has been limited communication and detail from McConnell and his office about his condition, leading to widespread speculation about his absence in Washington and on social media .

McConnell, who holds the title of the longest-serving Senate party leader in US history, has faced a number of health challenges in recent years, including previous falls and episodes of public freezing during press conferences . His extended absence comes at a critical time for Senate Republicans, with key legislative battles and leadership negotiations ongoing .

Rana Sanaullah dismisses AJK rigging claims, calls…

Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah  has strongly rejected allegations of electoral rigging in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s LA-27 constituency, calling the claims baseless and politically motivated. Speaking to reporters, Rana Sanaullah said a fake video was being circulated on social media to create the impression that irregularities had taken place during polling in the Muzaffarabad constituency. He alleged that the video was being used as part of a campaign to mislead the public and damage the credibility of the electoral process. He challenged the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to produce credible evidence if it believed rigging had occurred. He said accusations alone were not enough and urged the party to present proof before making such serious claims. Rana Sanaullah said polling in LA-27 had been conducted peacefully since the morning. He added that no complaints had been received regarding polling staff or the administration of any polling station during the voting process. The adviser also questioned whether the PPP had filed any formal complaint with the Election Commission regarding the alleged irregularities. He said the appropriate legal and constitutional forum was available for any political party that wished to challenge the election process. According to Rana Sanaullah, the PPP had adopted a narrative of election rigging from the very beginning instead of waiting for the electoral process to conclude. He maintained that if the party had evidence, it should submit it to the Election Commission for investigation rather than relying on unverified videos and public statements.

Oil prices slip despite Gulf tensions as markets f…

LONDON: Global oil prices edged lower on Thursday as investors shifted their attention from escalating military tensions in the Gulf to the resilience of energy supplies flowing through the region’s critical shipping routes. Brent crude futures fell 96 cents, or 1.06%, to $89.78 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 64 cents, or 0.76%, to $83.82 per barrel. The retreat came just a day after both benchmarks posted sharp gains, reflecting the market’s growing tendency to react briefly to geopolitical developments before refocusing on supply fundamentals. Oil markets had surged on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump warned Iran of a forceful response following an alleged Iranian missile strike on a US military base in Jordan. The rally was further fuelled by fresh US military operations against Iranian targets and joint US-Saudi strikes on Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq, heightening fears of wider regional instability. Despite the renewed military activity, analysts said traders are increasingly assessing whether the conflict will significantly disrupt global oil exports. Market participants remain closely focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway that traditionally carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas shipments. According to energy consultancy Rystad Energy, around 13 million barrels of Gulf oil per day are still reaching international markets despite severe disruptions and restrictions in the region. Analysts noted that alternative shipping routes and logistical adjustments have helped prevent a complete supply shock. Lin Ye, Vice President of Commodity Markets at Rystad Energy, said geopolitical headlines continue to trigger rapid price spikes, but such rallies often fade as investors evaluate actual supply conditions and ongoing diplomatic efforts. Meanwhile, shipping challenges persist after Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the Iran-aligned Houthi movement’s naval blockade in the Red Sea. Even so, some cargoes, particularly those linked to Chinese buyers, continue to move through alternative channels. IG market analyst Tony Sycamore said the longer alternative export routes remain operational, the weaker Iran’s leverage over the Strait of Hormuz becomes. He added that markets are increasingly adapting to prolonged disruptions, reducing the lasting impact of geopolitical shocks on crude prices. Although volatility remains elevated, traders are now placing greater emphasis on uninterrupted oil flows rather than military rhetoric, suggesting that supply resilience could continue to shape global energy markets in the weeks ahead.

Ryan de Nino, who rose to fame after appearing on the second season of Married at First Sight, has died suddenly at the age of 40. The reality TV personality passed away earlier this week in New Jersey. His family has not publicly revealed the circumstances or cause of his death. Following the heartbreaking news, Ryan’s former wife and MAFS co-star Jessica Castro has broken her silence. Castro said that she had not been in contact with Ryan for years. Despite their complicated past, she expressed sympathy for his loved ones and wished peace for his family as they deal with the loss. Ryan and Jessica first met at the altar during the second season of Married at First Sight in 2015. Ryan was 29 at the time, while Jessica was working as a receptionist in New York. Like other couples on the show, they agreed to marry without meeting beforehand after being matched by relationship experts. The couple initially chose to stay married on Decision Day. However, their relationship quickly deteriorated after filming ended. Their split eventually became one of the most controversial storylines from the season. In June 2015, Jessica filed for a restraining order and made serious allegations about Ryan’s behavior and threats toward her and her family. Ryan disputed the allegations at the time. Their marriage ultimately ended, and the two went their separate ways. Years later, Jessica moved on from the reality television spotlight, while Ryan also maintained a relatively private life. Their relationship remained a notable part of Married at First Sight history because of the dramatic events that followed their televised marriage. Ryan’s death has also prompted emotional tributes from members of his family. His sister, Melissa DeNino, remembered him as funny, witty, fiercely loyal and someone with a huge heart. She described losing her brother as a devastating experience that had changed her life forever. The sudden news has left Married at First Sight viewers remembering Ryan’s time on the series. Although his marriage to Jessica ended more than a decade ago, their story has once again drawn attention following his unexpected death. At this time, Ryan’s family has not publicly announced a cause of death. Further details may emerge as his loved ones continue to grieve and make arrangements.

Pakistan invites foreign investors as UK peer prai…

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured foreign investors of full government support, saying Pakistan is ready to facilitate investment and provide opportunities across different sectors. Naqvi made the remarks during a meeting with British House of Lords member Lord Zamir Choudrey in Islamabad on Saturday. The interior minister said Pakistan has significant investment potential and that the government wants to create an environment where foreign investors can operate with greater confidence. He assured investors that all possible facilities would be provided to support their business activities in the country. The discussion also covered regional peace and stability. Naqvi said Pakistan was continuing its efforts to promote lasting peace in the region. He expressed optimism that the country’s diplomatic and peace initiatives would produce positive results. Lord Zamir Choudrey appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to contribute to regional stability. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts to promote peace. Choudrey said the government’s policies were helping create new opportunities for investment in Pakistan. The meeting comes as Islamabad seeks to strengthen economic ties with international partners while promoting Pakistan as an attractive destination for foreign investment. Pakistan has also been increasing cooperation with China on security and counterterrorism matters. Earlier this month, Naqvi met Chinese Minister of State for Public Security and Special Service Bureau chief Ling Zhifeng at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in internal security. Their discussions included border management, illegal immigration and efforts against drug trafficking. Meanwhile, security concerns surrounding Chinese nationals working in Pakistan remain a major issue. The CPEC Secretariat has decided to purchase a new bulletproof vehicle costing Rs95 million to strengthen security arrangements for Chinese citizens. The vehicle will reportedly be a 3,500cc Toyota Land Cruiser. It will be added to the existing fleet of security vehicles used for the protection of Chinese nationals. Government departments have also acquired or are seeking additional bulletproof vehicles and helicopters for security purposes. Officials have said Chinese citizens face significant security risks in Pakistan. As a result, they are generally restricted from travelling in ordinary, non-bulletproof vehicles. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the protection of Chinese nationals is a key responsibility of the Pakistani government. The purchase also highlights the security challenges linked to major China-Pakistan economic projects. The government is balancing efforts to attract more foreign investment with measures aimed at improving the security of international investors and workers.
