Rubio warns of catastrophic US-China conflict

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that any military or economic conflict between the United States and China would have devastating consequences for both countries and the wider world, stressing the importance of carefully managing relations between the two global powers. Speaking during a televised interview, Rubio said the relationship between Washington and Beijing remains one of the most significant challenges in international diplomacy. He cautioned that a direct confrontation between the world’s two largest economies would create severe political, economic and security consequences far beyond their borders. Rubio said the United States must continue protecting its national interests while avoiding actions that could trigger a major conflict. He described balancing competition with stability as one of the most difficult responsibilities of foreign policy. His remarks come as strategic rivalry between the United States and China continues to deepen across multiple sectors, including trade, technology, security and global influence. Economic tensions have remained high in recent years, with both countries imposing restrictions on each other’s industries. The United States has expanded trade measures and tightened controls on several Chinese products and technologies, citing national security concerns. Washington has also introduced new restrictions on advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and robotics, as part of broader efforts to protect sensitive industries and limit the transfer of critical technologies. China has strongly criticised these measures, calling them unfair and unilateral. Beijing has repeatedly opposed US trade restrictions and warned that it could respond with countermeasures to protect its economic interests. Competition between the two countries has also intensified in the field of artificial intelligence, where both sides have exchanged allegations over technology development and intellectual property. Beyond economic and technological issues, both nations continue to strengthen their global influence through different diplomatic strategies. While the United States has focused on reinforcing partnerships with regional allies, China has expanded its engagement with developing countries and strengthened ties with nations across the Global South. Analysts believe that despite growing competition, both Washington and Beijing recognise the importance of maintaining communication to prevent tensions from escalating into open conflict.

Zoya Akhtar explains Katrina’s ZNMD kiss with Hrithik

Filmmaker Zoya Akhtar has revealed why Katrina Kaif agreed to an unexpected kissing scene with Hrithik Roshan in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Speaking at the Monsoon Film Festival on Monday, Akhtar recalled her experience of working with Katrina on the 2011 film. She said Katrina had never performed a kissing scene before. According to Akhtar, Katrina understood that the scene was important to the story. After reading the script, she agreed to film the moment because she recognised its importance to her character. The director explained that Katrina’s character, Laila, was portrayed as someone who lived in the moment and acted on her instincts. Akhtar said the kiss was important because audiences needed to see Laila make a completely spontaneous decision. The moment was designed to reveal another side of her personality. She compared the scene to a fairy-tale moment. In her interpretation, Hrithik Roshan’s character Arjun was like Sleeping Beauty, while Laila played the role of the prince who wakes him up. Akhtar said the scene was not included simply as a romantic moment. It was intended to strengthen Laila’s character and underline the emotional transformation taking place between the characters. The scene later became one of the most discussed moments from the popular film. During the conversation, Akhtar also addressed reports about a possible sequel to Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. She confirmed that work on a follow-up is underway but said several details are still uncertain. The filmmaker indicated that the team is considering whether the story can successfully revisit the characters at their current stage of life. Released in 2011, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara starred Katrina Kaif, Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin. The film followed three friends who reunited for a road trip in Spain. It became widely popular for its themes of friendship, adventure, relationships and living life to the fullest. The movie was also a commercial success. It reportedly earned around ₹153 crore worldwide against a production budget estimated at between ₹45 crore and ₹55 crore.

North Korea accuses NATO of expanding war preparations

PYONGYANG: North Korea has accused NATO of increasing preparations for future conflicts, claiming the alliance’s planned expansion of military fuel infrastructure reflects a shift toward a more aggressive military posture. In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang criticised NATO’s reported plans to upgrade and expand its fuel supply network across Europe. The project reportedly includes new pipelines and fuel storage facilities aimed at improving military logistics between western Europe and newer eastern and northern member states. North Korea claimed the expansion of fuel infrastructure shows NATO is strengthening its ability to maintain strategic reserves and conduct large-scale military operations. It alleged that the alliance is preparing not only for conflicts in Europe but also for possible involvement in other regions, including the Asia-Pacific. The commentary accused NATO of increasing its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region and criticised the alliance’s cooperation with countries that Pyongyang considers hostile. North Korea claimed that NATO’s recent activities near the Korean Peninsula have contributed to rising regional tensions. Pyongyang also criticised NATO members’ participation in multinational military exercises, including the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) drills. It claimed such exercises demonstrate that the alliance views the Asia-Pacific as a possible area of future military confrontation. North Korea warned that NATO’s expansion of military capabilities and logistics networks could increase global instability. It said strengthening military infrastructure would encourage an arms buildup and create further tensions between major powers. The allegations come amid growing concerns over security developments in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. NATO, however, has repeatedly stated that its military posture is defensive and focused on protecting member countries and deterring potential threats.

Three reasons Haroon is winning hearts in Aik Mohabbat Aur

Haroon Malik has emerged as one of the most admired characters in Aik Mohabbat Aur because of his thoughtful personality and balanced approach to relationships. Rather than being portrayed as a flawless hero, Haroon is shown as an ordinary man who makes mistakes, learns from them, and grows through his experiences. His realistic nature has made him relatable to viewers, and several of his actions have highlighted positive values that are often missing in television dramas. A genuine bond with Pari One of Haroon’s most heartwarming qualities is the relationship he shares with Pari. Instead of trying to immediately take on the role of a father figure, he focuses on becoming someone she can trust and enjoy spending time with. He treats her with kindness, patience, and respect, allowing their connection to develop naturally. Haroon listens to Pari, joins in her playful moments, and makes her feel valued without expecting anything in return. Their relationship is built on friendship, understanding, and trust rather than obligation. This gentle approach allows Pari to accept him on her own terms, making their bond feel authentic and emotionally touching. Standing up for Maham Another defining moment for Haroon is the way he handles Maham’s difficult situation. While others choose to ignore her emotional struggles or dismiss them as private family matters, Haroon recognizes that she deserves to be heard. Instead of blindly supporting his brother, Faris, he acknowledges Maham’s pain and encourages the family to confront the real issues. Haroon also challenges his parents to understand that providing financial security alone does not excuse harmful behavior. He emphasizes that emotional well-being is equally important and that remaining silent in the face of abuse only allows the problem to continue. His willingness to hold both his brother and family accountable demonstrates maturity, fairness, and compassion. Respecting Khushbakht’s emotions Haroon’s relationship with Khushbakht Naaz is another reason audiences appreciate his character. Although he develops strong feelings for her, he never pressures her to return his affection immediately. Instead, he patiently gives her the time and space she needs to process her emotions. Even after their marriage, Haroon expresses his care through thoughtful actions rather than dramatic declarations. He values small moments of happiness and understands that love cannot be forced. His calm and respectful approach helps Khushbakht gradually become comfortable with him, especially after the emotional challenges she has experienced in the past. Rather than demanding love, Haroon chooses to earn trust through consistency, patience, and genuine kindness. This refreshing portrayal of romance has resonated with many viewers, setting him apart from more traditional television heroes. As Aik Mohabbat Aur continues, Haroon’s character proves that strength can be found in empathy, respect, and emotional intelligence. His relationships with Pari, Maham, and Khushbakht showcase a man who values understanding over control and compassion over pride. These qualities not only make him an engaging character but also reflect the evolving storytelling seen in modern Pakistani dramas. Written by Faiza Iftikhar and directed by Farooq Rind, Aik Mohabbat Aur features a talented cast including Ahad Raza Mir, Maya Ali, Samiya Mumtaz, Noorul Hasan, Munazza Arif, Saqib Sameer, Omair Rana, Hajra Yamin, Sachal Afzal, Fajar Sheikh, Qudsia Ali, Shamyl Khan, Abbas Ashraf, Rehan Sheikh, Dodi Khan, and several other notable actors.

Abu Dhabi T10 League faces big changes after scandals

The Abu Dhabi T10 League is preparing for a major transformation as it heads towards its 10th season, with new ownership and stronger institutional oversight expected to reshape the tournament following a series of controversies. The league, launched in 2017 as the world’s first major T10 cricket competition, has attracted international players and significant attention for its fast-paced format. However, allegations and investigations linked to corruption, payment disputes involving players and frequent changes in franchise ownership have affected its reputation in recent years. In response to these challenges, the Abu Dhabi government has taken a more direct role in the competition. Through the Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, the government has acquired a majority stake in the league, a move aimed at bringing greater stability and long-term planning to the tournament. The authorities are now seeking new franchise owners through a competitive bidding process being conducted under the supervision of Deloitte. Final offers are expected to be submitted later this week, potentially marking a new chapter for the league. Abu Dhabi Sports Council chief executive Matt Boucher said the focus is on creating institutional stability and establishing longer-term agreements with franchise owners. The move is expected to provide teams with greater certainty while helping the competition strengthen its commercial and sporting foundations. Despite the planned restructuring, officials have indicated that the league will retain its current eight-team format. There are no immediate plans to increase the number of franchises, while expansion over the next three years is also not considered a priority. With fresh ownership, tighter management and a focus on stability, the Abu Dhabi T10 League now hopes to rebuild its credibility and establish itself as a sustainable annual cricket competition in the region.
