North Korea accuses NATO of expanding war preparations

PYONGYANG: North Korea has accused NATO of increasing preparations for future conflicts, claiming the alliance’s planned expansion of military fuel infrastructure reflects a shift toward a more aggressive military posture.

In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang criticised NATO’s reported plans to upgrade and expand its fuel supply network across Europe. The project reportedly includes new pipelines and fuel storage facilities aimed at improving military logistics between western Europe and newer eastern and northern member states.

North Korea claimed the expansion of fuel infrastructure shows NATO is strengthening its ability to maintain strategic reserves and conduct large-scale military operations. It alleged that the alliance is preparing not only for conflicts in Europe but also for possible involvement in other regions, including the Asia-Pacific.

The commentary accused NATO of increasing its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region and criticised the alliance’s cooperation with countries that Pyongyang considers hostile. North Korea claimed that NATO’s recent activities near the Korean Peninsula have contributed to rising regional tensions.

Pyongyang also criticised NATO members’ participation in multinational military exercises, including the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) drills. It claimed such exercises demonstrate that the alliance views the Asia-Pacific as a possible area of future military confrontation.

North Korea warned that NATO’s expansion of military capabilities and logistics networks could increase global instability. It said strengthening military infrastructure would encourage an arms buildup and create further tensions between major powers.

The allegations come amid growing concerns over security developments in Europe and the Asia-Pacific. NATO, however, has repeatedly stated that its military posture is defensive and focused on protecting member countries and deterring potential threats.

Yami Gautam to lead Kahaani 3

Yami Gautam is reportedly set to headline Kahaani 3, taking over the lead role in the acclaimed thriller franchise previously fronted by Vidya Balan. The film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to introduce a completely fresh story while retaining the signature mystery and suspense that made the franchise a favourite among audiences. According to reports, Kahaani 3 will not continue the storyline from the first two films. Instead, the makers are planning an entirely new narrative set within the same cinematic world. This approach is intended to preserve the franchise’s identity while giving audiences a fresh mystery to unravel. Sujoy Ghosh, who directed both Kahaani (2012) and Kahaani 2 (2016), is returning to helm the third instalment. An industry source quoted in multiple reports said, “Kahaani 3 is a new story altogether. The idea is to take the franchise forward while retaining the essence of the world that audiences have loved.” The source added that Yami Gautam has been chosen for the lead because her character has a powerful and emotionally layered arc that fits the film’s vision. The insider further revealed that the project is still in its early stages, with the creative team working on the script and production schedule before filming begins. “The film is still in the pre-production stage, and the team is working on the timelines for the shoot,” the source said. Speaking about Sujoy Ghosh’s return, the source explained that the filmmaker has a clear plan for the franchise’s future. “Sujoy has a very clear vision for the Kahaani world. He is working closely with the team to ensure that the third film feels fresh but still carries the soul of the franchise.” The source also noted that there is considerable excitement surrounding Yami Gautam’s casting, while the makers continue to finalise the shooting schedule. The Kahaani franchise has long been associated with Vidya Balan, whose performances as Vidya Bagchi and Durga Rani Singh earned widespread critical acclaim and helped establish the series as one of Bollywood’s finest mystery thrillers. Reports suggest that while Yami Gautam will now lead the franchise, the upcoming film is not intended to replace the earlier stories but rather expand the Kahaani universe with a new protagonist and standalone plot. Yami Gautam, who has earned praise in recent years for her performances in female-led films, is expected to bring a different dimension to the franchise. Industry observers believe the role could become another milestone in her career, especially given the strong legacy attached to the Kahaani brand. Although the makers have not officially announced the film’s cast or release date, reports about Yami Gautam leading Kahaani 3 have generated significant excitement among fans. Many have welcomed Sujoy Ghosh’s return and expressed curiosity about how the new chapter will honour the franchise’s legacy while introducing a fresh mystery for audiences.

Mass HIV screening detects 141 positive cases afte…

A large-scale HIV screening campaign launched after the emergence of cases at Karachi’s Kulsum Bai Valika Hospital has identified 141 HIV-positive individuals, prompting authorities to intensify investigations and strengthen preventive measures across Sindh. Speaking at a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Regulation and Coordination, Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister Saeed Ghani said more than 10,500 people were screened in and around Valika Hospital. Of them, 120 tested positive for HIV, including 81 children of registered Sindh Employees’ Social Security Institution (SESSI) workers, while the remaining 39 had no affiliation with the institution. Ghani said the provincial government has assumed responsibility for providing treatment to all affected children and is working to ensure they receive the best possible medical care. He added that a panel of leading healthcare experts and hospitals is being formed to oversee the treatment process. As part of precautionary measures, HIV screening was also expanded to Landhi Hospital and surrounding areas. More than 7,500 people were tested, with 21 additional HIV-positive cases confirmed. According to the minister, these individuals had no previous record of treatment at the hospital, suggesting that some infections may have originated from other sources. The minister also revealed that final show-cause notices had been issued to 37 doctors, paramedics and hospital officials following inquiry committee recommendations into the Valika Hospital incident. He warned that anyone found responsible for criminal negligence would face both departmental and legal action. To support affected families, Ghani announced that a Rs2 billion endowment fund has been established under SESSI. The fund will be managed by an independent body to ensure transparency and provide long-term assistance to those impacted by the outbreak.

D4vd’s Apple Music hacked during court hearing

American singer d4vd’s Apple Music account was reportedly hacked after an unauthorised track appeared on his artist profile while he was attending a preliminary court hearing in the murder case linked to the death of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The incident quickly drew attention online as fans noticed unusual activity on the singer’s streaming page. According to screenshots obtained by TMZ, d4vd’s Apple Music profile briefly displayed a fake song titled I DID IT…, which had not been officially released by the artist. Fans soon linked the track to an unreleased demo believed to be called Celeste, sparking widespread speculation across social media. Although the demo was never officially released, listeners recognised parts of its lyrics. One of the lines reportedly heard in the leaked track reads, “Oh Celeste, the girl with my name tattooed on her chest.” The appearance of the song during the ongoing court proceedings further fuelled online discussion surrounding the case. The reported hack came as d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, attended preliminary hearings in Los Angeles Superior Court. Prosecutors are presenting evidence in a case accusing Burke of murdering 13-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was found dead in 2025. He has denied the allegations, and the legal proceedings remain ongoing. During the fourth day of hearings on July 24, prosecutors presented text messages exchanged between Burke and Rivas Hernandez in January 2024. The messages reportedly discussed a pregnancy and abortion. According to court records, Rivas Hernandez wrote, “Both of us aren’t able to take care of it.” Burke allegedly replied, “I know but still.” Prosecutors displayed the messages as part of the evidence supporting the case against the singer. Authorities allege that Rivas Hernandez was killed in April 2025 at Burke’s Hollywood Hills home. Her remains were discovered several months later, in September 2025, inside a Tesla registered to the singer. Following an investigation, officials ruled her death a homicide. Burke was arrested on April 17, 2026, nearly a year after investigators concluded that the teenager had been killed on April 23, 2025. He now faces murder charges, and the case continues to move through the court system. The unauthorised upload on his Apple Music profile has added another layer of public attention to an already high-profile legal case, though there is no indication that the singer was connected to the apparent hack.

Harry Potter fans save Dobby’s grave from power cable

Harry Potter fans have successfully pushed for a major power infrastructure project in Wales to be moved away from the memorial site known as Dobby’s grave. The $581 million Greenlink interconnector is being developed to connect the electricity networks of the United Kingdom and Ireland. The project aims to help both countries share surplus renewable energy. The original route of the underground cable was planned to pass close to the memorial for Dobby, the beloved house elf from the Harry Potter series. The memorial is located on a beach in Pembrokeshire. It became a popular destination for fans after the area was used to film Dobby’s death scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Fans regularly visit the site to pay tribute to the fictional character. Many leave stones with personal messages and tributes. Socks were also commonly left at the memorial, reflecting Dobby’s connection with the item in the Harry Potter story, but environmental authorities have asked visitors to stop leaving them. The proposed power cable route triggered a strong reaction among Harry Potter fans. Project manager Simon Ludlam said his team received hundreds of calls after details of the planned route became known. Ludlam initially did not understand why the location had caused such concern. He said a colleague eventually explained the significance of the site and the emotional attachment fans had developed to Dobby’s grave. Following discussions, the project team decided to alter the planned route. Ludlam said engineers worked on a new alignment to ensure that the cable would not pass close to the memorial. The revised route has now allowed the project to proceed without directly affecting the popular tourist site. However, the new alignment has raised another issue. It passes relatively close to a potential Bronze Age burial site. Planning documents from local authorities had identified archaeological remains in the area. An archaeological investigation reportedly found the remains of an inverted pottery vessel believed to resemble a Bronze Age collared urn. The vessel has been dated to approximately 1700 to 1500 BC. Such urns are commonly associated with burial sites and may indicate the presence of human remains. The situation has highlighted the challenge of balancing major infrastructure projects with cultural, historical and tourism interests. Local residents have also welcomed the decision to protect the Dobby memorial. The site attracts visitors from across the world and has become an important tourism attraction in Pembrokeshire. Local resident Jack Nicholas said visitors had travelled from countries including Italy, Australia and South Africa to see the memorial. He said the attraction brings tourists to one of Pembrokeshire’s notable beaches and helps nearby businesses. Tourism is a major part of the local economy. Pembrokeshire County Council estimates that the sector contributes around $815 million to the economy and supports about 23% of local employment.
