SC orders Imran’s transfer to Shifa Hospital

The Supreme Court has directed authorities to transfer Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.

The order was issued by a three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim were also part of the bench.

The court was hearing petitions related to Imran’s medical treatment, access to his personal doctors and meetings with family members.

The bench also ordered authorities to submit Imran’s complete medical record before the next hearing. Justice Waheed questioned why the court had been provided with only a summary instead of the full medical file.

The judge said the court wanted the complete record to properly assess Imran’s health condition.

The matter came under discussion after a medical report submitted by Adiala Jail authorities highlighted concerns about Imran’s health. Justice Waheed noted that the reports indicated abnormalities in his pulse and heart condition and suggested that his vital organs could be affected.

The bench also discussed a recommendation for angiography. Justice Afghan asked whether the procedure could be performed inside the jail.

The Islamabad advocate general told the court that angiography could be carried out at a hospital outside the prison.

PTI lawyer Uzair Bhandari raised concerns about the cause of an alleged blood clot and requested access for Imran’s personal physicians.

He sought permission for Dr Asim Yusuf and Dr Faisal Sultan to meet Imran. The court discussed the qualifications of the doctors proposed for the visit and noted that no formal challenge had been made to the doctors who had already examined the former premier.

The court also addressed the issue of media statements following meetings with Imran.

Bhandari assured the bench that family members and doctors would not speak to the media after meeting the PTI founder.

The Islamabad advocate general said an earlier undertaking regarding media interactions had allegedly been breached. The matter is also pending before the Islamabad High Court.

Senior PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja argued that responsibility should not automatically be placed on others if an undertaking had been violated.

Justice Waheed warned that if contempt proceedings were initiated against officials for violating court directions, similar action could also be considered against lawyers or other individuals who breached court orders.

The bench said the PTI and Imran’s family would have to provide an undertaking that no media briefing would take place after meetings.

Justice Afghan also urged the PTI to avoid turning Imran’s medical condition into a political dispute.

The court separately examined restrictions on meetings between Imran and his sisters.

Justice Waheed said meeting family members was a fundamental right and should not be treated as a special favour.

Authorities told the court that Imran had met his sisters 48 times during the past three years.

The court ordered officials to submit complete details of all those meetings. It also sought records concerning Imran’s communication with his sons, including call detail records.

The bench further directed authorities to provide comprehensive information about the cases against Imran. The court wants details of cases in which he is an under-trial prisoner, cases resulting in convictions and matters where sentences have been suspended.

Adiala Jail officials were summoned to appear before the court at the next hearing.

The court also questioned the implementation of Islamabad High Court directions concerning meetings with Imran. The Islamabad advocate general said the matter was pending before the high court in an intra-court appeal.

The hearing was adjourned until after the summer vacation.

Medical report submitted to court

A two-page medical report submitted by the Adiala Jail superintendent provided details of Imran’s treatment and health monitoring during his imprisonment.

The report said Imran had received treatment from ophthalmologists in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for central retinal vein occlusion, an eye condition diagnosed previously.

According to the report, his affected eye had shown significant improvement and had almost returned to normal vision.

The report also contained a summary of 39 medical examinations conducted by various specialists between November 4, 2023 and August 10, 2026.

Several government doctors examined Imran during this period. Jail authorities said records of the consultations had been maintained.

Medical officers at the jail also monitored his food and fluid intake three times a day and conducted regular health checks.

The report stated that Imran and his wife had been meeting every Tuesday under jail rules. A total of 84 such meetings had reportedly taken place.

Fahad Sheikh responds to Syed Mohammad Ahmed controversy

Pakistani actor and host Fahad Sheikh has addressed the controversy surrounding allegations that he mistreated veteran actor Syed Mohammad Ahmed on a drama set. The controversy began after Syed Mohammad Ahmed spoke about an unpleasant experience involving a younger lead actor. Although he did not publicly name the actor, Fahad Sheikh was later identified by social media users as the person allegedly involved in the incident. The allegations quickly attracted attention across social media, with several Pakistani celebrities and fans expressing support for the veteran actor. Fahad also faced criticism over the incident and was urged to explain his side of the story. Responding to the controversy, Fahad Sheikh said the video circulating online was taken from what he described as a joking interaction among members of the cast. He maintained that the actors had developed a family-like bond while working together. Fahad also addressed Syed Mohammad Ahmed directly and offered an apology. He said he was willing to apologise publicly again if the senior actor wanted him to do so. However, Fahad expressed anger over the leaked footage. He warned that legal action could be taken against those responsible for recording or sharing the video without permission. His response has failed to end the controversy, as social media users continue to debate whether the incident should be dismissed as a joke or treated as inappropriate behaviour towards a senior colleague. Some users criticised Fahad for focusing on the leaked video and possible legal action rather than giving a stronger apology. Others argued that the complete context of the incident should be considered before reaching a final conclusion. The controversy has also reignited discussions about workplace behaviour and respect for senior artists in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Syed Mohammad Ahmed remains a respected figure in Pakistani television and has received considerable support from fellow actors and viewers following his account of the incident.

Fire put out at Aramco’s Jazan Refinery, Saudi A…

JAZAN: Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that erupted early Sunday at a facility within Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, with authorities confirming that no injuries were reported. The Saudi Energy Ministry said Aramco’s industrial security teams quickly brought the fire under control. Relevant authorities were subsequently working to complete procedures related to the incident. The ministry did not disclose what caused the fire or provide details about the extent of any damage. Located on the Red Sea near Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen, the Jazan refinery has a processing capacity of around 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The facility produces several refined petroleum products, including gasoline and ultra-low-sulfur diesel. The latest incident comes shortly after the refinery was shut down following an attack in late July that Saudi authorities attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement. The attack reportedly damaged parts of the refinery’s integrated gasification complex and tank storage facilities. The Houthis had previously claimed responsibility for strikes targeting Aramco facilities in Jazan and Yanbu, raising concerns over the security of Saudi energy infrastructure and shipping routes in the Red Sea. Aramco Chief Executive Amin Nasser said last week that recent attacks had caused some temporary production disruptions but expressed confidence that operations could be restored quickly. He said the incidents had not caused a significant operational or financial impact on the company. The latest fire comes amid heightened regional tensions involving Saudi Arabia, Yemen and wider disruptions affecting energy and maritime security across the Middle East.

Germany hunts terror suspect after Berlin pride cr…

German authorities launched a national manhunt on Sunday for an individual suspected of ploughing a minivan into a crowd near a huge LGBTQ Pride gathering in Berlin, killing one person and injuring 29 others. The attack occurred in Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate at approximately 10 pm, close to one of Europe’s largest annual LGBTQ celebrations, Christopher Street Day. The incident is the latest in a series of vehicle attacks on crowds in Germany that have intensified debate around security and immigration amid a surge in support for the far-right. Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged Germans to protect liberal values, stating: “We will defend the freedom, openness, and liberal spirit of our lives and our society with everything we can do.” It remains unclear whether the perpetrator acted alone, as police said more than one person may have exited the van. Berlin broadcaster RBB reported that an Iranian who had been a passenger in the vehicle had been arrested. The fire service confirmed that three of the injured were in a life-threatening condition. The attack comes at a sensitive time for Merz’s unpopular coalition government, which is undergoing a bruising cabinet reshuffle amid criticism of its effectiveness. The far-right Alternative for Germany party, campaigning on immigration and security, was quick to comment on the attack. AfD co-chief Tino Chrupalla said on X: “We will not allow religious extremists to divide our country with violence and intolerance!” Germany has experienced several vehicle attacks in recent years. In May, a man believed to have mental health problems drove into a pedestrian zone in Leipzig, killing two and injuring three. In 2016, a Tunisian failed asylum seeker hijacked a truck and drove it into a busy Christmas market, killing 11 people. At the Tiergarten park, people lit candles and left flowers in memory of the victim. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The incident has once again raised questions about security measures at public events and the broader challenges of preventing such acts of violence. The government faces increasing pressure to address these concerns while upholding the country’s commitment to openness and tolerance. As the manhunt continues, the nation mourns the loss of life and hopes for the recovery of those injured in this senseless act of violence. The coming days will be crucial in determining the motives behind the attack and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. The international community has expressed solidarity with Germany, offering support in the aftermath of the tragedy. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of extremism and the need for continued vigilance to protect public safety.

Karachi seals 200 shops in Saddar over fire safety…

The Karachi administration has sealed 200 shops in Saddar for violating fire safety regulations, as authorities intensify efforts to enforce safety standards across commercial areas. The action was taken after inspections revealed that several businesses were operating without complying with mandatory fire safety requirements. The action was taken after inspections revealed that several businesses were operating without complying with mandatory fire safety requirements. According to officials, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso submitted a report to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi detailing enforcement measures taken against businesses found in violation of fire safety laws across the district. The report stated that the sealed shops are primarily located on the ground floor of Bilal Centre and Koh Noor Centre in Saddar. Authorities found that these commercial units failed to meet prescribed fire safety standards and were operating in conditions considered unsafe for customers and employees. The crackdown forms part of a broader campaign to improve compliance with fire prevention regulations in Karachi’s busy commercial districts. Officials have emphasized that ensuring public safety remains a top priority, particularly in crowded shopping centers where inadequate emergency measures can increase the risk of serious incidents. Following the inspection drive, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi directed all deputy commissioners in the city to strictly enforce fire safety regulations and take action against businesses that fail to comply with legal requirements. The directive aims to improve safety standards in markets, shopping centers, and commercial buildings throughout Karachi. Fire safety regulations typically require commercial establishments to maintain functioning fire extinguishers, emergency exits, alarm systems, and other protective measures designed to reduce the risk of fire-related accidents. Authorities have warned that businesses found violating these requirements may face sealing, fines, or additional legal action until the necessary safety measures are implemented. The latest enforcement drive reflects growing efforts by the city administration to strengthen public safety following concerns over fire hazards in commercial areas. Shop owners whose businesses have been sealed will be required to address the identified deficiencies and meet the prescribed safety standards before they can resume operations. Officials have indicated that inspections will continue across Karachi to ensure compliance with fire safety laws, with similar action expected against other businesses that fail to meet the required standards. The administration has urged commercial property owners and traders to fully implement fire safety measures to avoid penalties and help create a safer environment for workers and the public.

Liverpool owners in talks to sell minority stake t…

Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have confirmed they are in talks with British-Indian investor Amit Bhatia over a potential deal for a minority stake in the Premier League club. Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, is heading a consortium interested in buying into the 20-time English champions. An FSG spokesperson confirmed the approach from Bhatia’s group, stating: “An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.” The Financial Times reported that Bhatia has hired advisers to work on the offer, which could value Liverpool at more than $6 billion. Bhatia, who previously served as a director of Queens Park Rangers and vice-chairman of the club’s holding company, is a prominent figure in British football. He has expressed pride and gratitude for his time at QPR, thanking players, managers, staff, and fans for making him feel part of the QPR family for many years. His involvement with Liverpool would mark a significant step in his investment career, further cementing his presence in English football. The discussions between Bhatia’s consortium and FSG are believed to be at an early stage, with no deal struck yet. Any investment from Bhatia would be made to further position Liverpool for success, following FSG’s move in 2023 to sell a minority stake in the club to global sports investment firm Dynasty. Reports at the time valued that transaction between $100 million and $200 million. FSG, which bought Liverpool for £300 million in 2010, has overseen a period of success for the club, including Premier League and Champions League titles. The potential sale of a minority stake to Bhatia’s consortium reflects FSG’s strategy of attracting strategic partners to support the club’s growth and competitiveness in an increasingly challenging football landscape. Bhatia’s consortium is the latest in a series of investment groups to express interest in Premier League clubs, highlighting the continued appeal of English football to global investors. If the deal proceeds, it would provide Liverpool with additional financial resources to invest in the squad and infrastructure, while Bhatia would gain a foothold in one of the world’s most iconic football clubs. The negotiations come amid ongoing speculation about the future of ownership at several top Premier League clubs. While FSG has maintained its commitment to Liverpool, the potential sale of a minority stake to Bhatia’s consortium suggests a willingness to explore strategic partnerships to secure the club’s long-term success. As discussions continue, Liverpool fans will be watching closely to see how any deal could impact the club’s future direction. The coming weeks will be critical in determining whether Bhatia’s consortium can finalize a deal that benefits both the investor and the club.
