Imran Khan shifa hospital transfer: PTI announces …

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to approach the Supreme Court with a contempt of court petition if former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is not transferred to Shifa International Hospital by Thursday night.

According to PTI sources, the party is waiting for implementation of the Supreme Court’s order regarding Imran Khan’s Shifa Hospital transfer. If no progress is made by the deadline, the party plans to file the contempt petition on Friday morning.

The Supreme Court had ordered on August 18 that Khan, who remains imprisoned, be transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical assessment and treatment. The court also directed the formation of a medical board, including specialists and Khan’s personal physician.

The order came amid continuing concerns surrounding Khan’s health and access to medical treatment. The court also issued directions concerning family meetings and communication with his son.

The government, however, challenged the decision. On August 19, it filed a review petition arguing that the order to move Khan to a private hospital should be reconsidered. The government has maintained that existing prison and legal procedures should be followed regarding treatment of prisoners.

The legal dispute intensified on Thursday when the Supreme Court Registrar’s Office returned the government’s review petition after raising objections. Sources said the government intends to address the objections and submit the petition again.

PTI has maintained that the Supreme Court’s order should be implemented without delay. Party representatives have warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to contempt proceedings against the officials responsible for implementation.

The developing situation has created another legal and political confrontation between PTI and the government. The next several hours could determine whether the matter is resolved administratively or moves into another round of proceedings before the Supreme Court.

For now, PTI’s position is clear: if Imran Khan is not shifted to Shifa International Hospital by Thursday night, the party says it will seek legal action through a contempt of court petition on Friday morning.

    4.5-magnitude quake jolts Pakistan’s coast

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Pakistan’s coastal region on Monday morning, with tremors recorded near Keti Bandar, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The seismic activity occurred at around 8:31am, with the earthquake originating at a depth of approximately 40 kilometres beneath the surface. The PMD located the epicentre in the sea, around 156 kilometres southwest of Keti Bandar. The tremors were felt in parts of the coastal belt, prompting residents to remain alert. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties, injuries or significant damage to buildings and other infrastructure following the earthquake. The depth and offshore location of the earthquake likely reduced its impact on populated areas compared with a shallower quake occurring closer to land. Nevertheless, residents in coastal communities may have felt noticeable shaking depending on their distance from the epicentre. Seismic activity is not unusual in and around Pakistan’s coastal belt, which lies near tectonically active zones. Earthquakes in the region can occur beneath the Arabian Sea and along nearby fault systems. The meteorological department continues to monitor seismic activity and may issue further information if additional tremors or related developments are recorded. Authorities have also advised people to remain calm and follow official updates in the event of further seismic activity. No tsunami warning or major coastal emergency was reported in connection with the earthquake at the time of the initial report.

John Stones joins Inter Milan after Manchester City exit

England international John Stones has completed a free transfer to Italian champions Inter Milan after leaving Manchester City at the end of his contract. The experienced centre-back signed a two-year deal with the Serie A giants, bringing an end to a successful decade-long spell at the Etihad Stadium, where he established himself as one of the Premier League’s top defenders. Stones departed Manchester City after his contract expired at the end of June. His move to Inter Milan comes shortly after representing England at the FIFA World Cup 2026, where the Three Lions secured a third-place finish. The defender featured in five matches during the tournament and earned his 94th international cap in England’s semi-final defeat. Following the announcement of his transfer, Stones shared his excitement about beginning a new chapter in Italy. “I’m excited to be here, thank you so much. I’ll see you soon, ciao,” he said in his first message to Inter supporters. The 32-year-old arrives in Milan with a wealth of experience at both club and international level. Since joining Manchester City in 2016, Stones played a crucial role in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. His composure on the ball, tactical intelligence and ability to play out from the back made him a key figure in City’s defensive setup. During his time in Manchester, Stones helped the club win six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, three League Cups and the UEFA Champions League, adding several other domestic and international honours to his impressive collection. He was widely praised for his partnership with fellow defenders and his contribution to City’s possession-based style of football. Despite his success, the latter stages of his City career were disrupted by recurring injury problems. Fitness issues limited his appearances over the past few seasons, and he made only nine Premier League appearances during the previous campaign. As a result, his departure marked the end of an era for both the player and the club. Inter Milan will hope the experienced defender can strengthen their backline as they prepare to defend the Serie A title. The club sees Stones as an important addition, bringing leadership, experience and a winning mentality to the squad. Moving to Italy also presents a fresh challenge for the England international, who will experience Serie A for the first time in his career. The switch offers him the opportunity to revive his club career while continuing to compete at the highest level in European football. Stones is expected to integrate quickly into Inter’s squad ahead of the new season. If selected, he could make his competitive debut when Inter begin the defence of their Serie A crown against Monza at the San Siro on August 22. With a decorated career already behind him and plenty of experience on the international stage, Stones now begins a new journey in Italy, aiming to add further silverware to his impressive list of achievements while helping Inter remain among Europe’s elite clubs.

Colombia’s death toll from earthquake climbs…

Rescue crews continue combing through collapsed buildings across western Colombia after a powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the region on Monday, August 10, with officials confirming the death toll has risen to at least 164 people. Authorities said more than 880 people have sustained injuries, while over 3,200 remain unaccounted for as soldiers, emergency responders and local volunteers work through debris from dozens of collapsed structures. Thousands of residents have been forced from their homes since the quake struck, adding to the scale of the humanitarian response now underway. The earthquake flattened multi story buildings in cities including Pereira and Cali, and severely damaged one of the towers of a historic cathedral in Manizales. The tremor originated at an intermediate depth with its epicenter located near San José del Palmar in the western department of Chocó, causing widespread destruction across Pereira, Cali, Manizales and other communities in Colombia’s coffee growing region. Residential buildings, hospitals, schools and key infrastructure, including several regional airports, all suffered severe damage in the quake. At one city hospital, several upper floors, including sections dedicated to pediatric care, collapsed inward, trapping some patients inside and forcing hospital staff to treat roughly 600 additional patients outdoors on a street littered with debris, according to hospital director Irne Torres Castro, who spoke to a Colombian television network. That same city saw some of the earthquake’s most extensive destruction, with entire residential blocks reduced to piles of concrete and twisted metal. Video circulating online captured buildings shaking violently as residents fled into the streets, while separate footage showed a regional airport swaying dramatically during the quake as large sections of ceiling came down around people sheltering inside. Among the most widely shared images online is footage showing the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary shaking and partially collapsing. The cathedral, built in the 1920s, holds the distinction of being Colombia’s tallest cathedral and ranks among the highest neo Gothic churches anywhere in the Americas. The disaster struck just days after Abelardo De La Espriella was sworn in as Colombia’s president, immediately confronting his new administration with a major crisis. The earthquake also comes with memories still fresh of a pair of devastating earthquakes that struck neighboring Venezuela in June. Colombia’s national government has declared a state of emergency and mobilized the military, police and specialized rescue units to lead recovery operations, while accepting offers of international assistance as the search for survivors continues. The disaster adds to a string of major seismic events across the region in recent months, underscoring the ongoing vulnerability of Andean nations to powerful earthquakes and the strain such disasters place on emergency infrastructure even in areas with established disaster response systems.

According to the latest streaming figures, Dae Dae recorded the highest single-day streaming total of its career following the performance. On July 20, the song received approximately 2.2 million official on-demand streams in the United States, setting a new personal record for the collaboration. The impressive total represented a 65 percent increase compared to the day before the World Cup final. It also reflected an 84 percent rise over the day following the tournament’s opening ceremony, highlighting the enormous impact of the halftime performance on the song’s popularity. Music industry experts have long observed that performances during globally watched sporting events often lead to significant increases in streaming, digital downloads, and chart rankings. With hundreds of millions of football fans tuning in to watch the World Cup final, the halftime show provided an ideal platform for artists to introduce their music to new audiences while reconnecting with existing fans. The success of Dae Dae extended beyond streaming platforms. The track also climbed into the Top 20 of Spotify and Apple Music’s real-time charts, further demonstrating its growing international appeal. The song quickly became one of the most talked-about musical moments of the tournament, with fans continuing to stream it in the days following the final. The World Cup halftime show also benefited several other artists. Justin Bieber’s Everything Hallelujah experienced a remarkable boost, with official U.S. streams increasing by 161 percent to around 268,000. Meanwhile, global K-pop sensation BTS saw renewed interest in its hit song Dynamite, which recorded a 74 percent increase in streaming, reaching approximately 312,000 official plays in the United States. Despite those strong gains, Dae Dae emerged as the tournament’s biggest musical success story. The song’s commercial momentum also translated into chart success. Dae Dae climbed to a new career-high position on the Billboard Hot 100, reaching No. 42. Although it narrowly missed breaking into the Top 40, the latest ranking marked another major achievement for the track and highlighted its growing popularity in the competitive U.S. music market. Meanwhile, the World Cup also helped revive interest in older songs linked to the tournament. British rock band Oasis saw its iconic anthem Wonderwall enjoy renewed popularity after becoming closely associated with England’s World Cup journey, proving once again that football’s biggest stage can influence music trends as much as sporting history.
