Karachi braces for cloudy, humid weather and night…

Karachi is likely to experience cloudy and humid weather over the next 24 hours, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting a chance of light drizzle in parts of the city tonight.

According to the weather department, temperatures are expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C during the day. The city recorded a minimum temperature of  27.5°C over the past 24 hours.

Sea breezes are blowing from the southwest at around 15 kilometres per hour, while the humidity level stands at approximately 75 per cent.

The prevailing humid conditions may keep the weather uncomfortable despite the cloudy skies. Residents can expect generally overcast conditions, with the possibility of brief drizzle during the night.

    Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi has said construction of a 480-kilometre railway track from Karachi to Rohri will begin next year. He made the remarks during a meeting with Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi, where Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Minister of State Kheial Das Kohistani, Fahad Haroon and other officials were also present. He said around 11,000 tonnes of coal was currently being transported from Thar to the national grid every day. The Sindh governor praised the government for ensuring uninterrupted supplies of petroleum products despite the ongoing challenges. Hashmi particularly appreciated the measures taken by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to maintain the supply of fuel across the country. Ali Pervaiz Malik said stakeholders had extended full cooperation to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products. The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen transportation and logistics infrastructure and improve coordination between relevant federal and provincial authorities.

    ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has highlighted a series of ongoing and planned infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity, boosting trade and promoting tourism across Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. Speaking at a ceremony held to honour police martyrs, the minister said the proposed extension of the Murree Expressway to Muzaffarabad will provide modern travel facilities, while the MNJC Motorway will offer an alternative route to the Karakoram Highway, strengthening Pakistan’s strategic road link with China. He said the Sialkot-Kharian-Rawalpindi Highway will reduce the distance between Islamabad and Lahore by around 100 kilometres and cut travel time by more than an hour. In Karachi, he noted that the M-10 and Lyari Expressway are improving cargo movement from the city’s port, while construction on the M-6 Motorway is expected to begin soon. Aleem Khan added that work is progressing on the Guru Nanak Expressway, which will connect Kartarpur with Nankana Sahib to promote religious tourism and facilitate Sikh pilgrims from around the world. He also said infrastructure development is advancing on tourist routes in Gilgit, the N-25 Highway is expected to be completed next year, and the M-8 Motorway projects in Balochistan will strengthen regional connectivity and cross-border trade with Iran. Paying tribute to police martyrs, the minister described their sacrifices as a lasting symbol of courage and praised the Motorway Police for their professionalism. He announced plans to establish modern police stations, dedicated parking areas and emergency ambulance services near toll plazas to improve the safety of patrolling officers. Aleem Khan also highlighted the National Highway Authority’s financial progress, saying its revenue has increased from Rs66 billion in 2024 to more than Rs127 billion in 2026. He said the improved financial position has enabled Pakistan to expand its motorway and highway network using domestic resources without relying on external funding. Inspector General of Motorway Police Sultan Ahmad Chaudhry also paid tribute to the fallen officers, reaffirming the department’s commitment to supporting the families of martyrs and honouring their sacrifices.

    Islamabad: A representation submitted before the President of Pakistan has requested an early decision in a workplace harassment case involving Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan and Dr. Ayesha Khan, after the applicant claimed the matter remained pending despite the completion of hearings. The application was addressed to the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan through the Secretary to the President, seeking directions for an early decision on Representation No. 18/WO/2026 pending before the Consultant to the President. According to the application, the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace (FOSPAH) issued an order on 13 February 2026, dismissing Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan’s complaint and ordering his removal from service. The applicant later filed a representation under Section 9 of the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act, 2010. The representation states that both parties appeared before the Consultant to the President and presented their arguments. After hearing the matter, the Consultant reserved the decision on 12 May 2026, but according to the application, the final decision has not yet been announced. The applicant argued that unnecessary delay in deciding the representation is increasing difficulties and hardship, requesting that the matter be decided without further delay according to legal principles of timely justice. The case relates to proceedings under the workplace harassment law involving Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan and Dr. Ayesha Khan. The President Secretariat had earlier issued hearing notices regarding the representation against the FOSPAH order dated 13 February 2026 in Complaint No. FOH HQR H/0341/2025. The President Secretariat scheduled hearings before Mr. Justice (Retired) Irfan Qadir, Consultant Legal Affairs to the President, first on 2 April 2026 and later refixed the matter for 12 May 2026. The notices stated that the matter would be decided on the basis of available record. The dispute has attracted attention because the representation challenges a previous order passed by FOSPAH, while the final decision on the pending matter remains awaited. The available record shows that filing a representation does not itself establish innocence or final relief. The matter remains subject to examination under the applicable legal process, and the final outcome depends on the decision of the competent authority.
