NASA’s roman space telescope to explore dark ene…

NASA is preparing to launch the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope a new observatory designed to explore some of the universe’s biggest mysteries. The nearly $4 billion telescope is scheduled to launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The Roman Space Telescope is expected to expand scientists’ understanding of dark matter, dark energy, gravity and planets beyond our solar system. It will complement the work already carried out by the Hubble and James Webb space telescopes.

Unlike telescopes that focus closely on individual objects Roman will be able to survey enormous sections of the sky quickly. During its main mission, scientists expect it to observe billions of galaxies. These observations could reveal how galaxies formed, how cosmic structures changed over time and how the universe has expanded.

A major objective of the mission is to investigate dark energy the mysterious phenomenon believed to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe. Researchers also want to learn more about dark matter which cannot be seen directly but affects stars and galaxies through gravity.

Scientists will use Roman to study gravitational lensing a phenomenon in which massive objects bend light traveling through space. These measurements could provide new tests of Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity and help researchers determine whether our current understanding of gravity works across enormous distances.

The telescope will also search for exoplanets which are worlds orbiting stars outside our solar system. Researchers expect the mission to identify thousands of new planets and gather information about how planetary systems are formed. Roman will also test technology that could eventually allow scientists to directly image some nearby exoplanets.

After launch the telescope will travel to Lagrange Point 2, approximately 1.6 million kilometers from Earth. The James Webb Space Telescope operates in the same region while Hubble orbits much closer to Earth.

NASA has planned an initial five-year mission for Roman. However, the telescope could potentially continue operating for several more years if it has enough fuel.

Named after Nancy Grace Roman, NASA’s first chief astronomer the telescope represents another major step in humanity’s effort to understand the universe. Its discoveries could reshape scientists’ knowledge of cosmic evolution, gravity, dark matter, dark energy and distant planetary systems.

China evacuates tourists from Jiuzhaigou after mudslides and heavy rain

Chinese authorities evacuated tourists from the famous Jiuzhaigou National Park on Monday after heavy rainfall triggered mudslides, forcing the temporary closure of parts of the UNESCO World Heritage site. The emergency came as the country issued its highest level warning for flash floods following widespread destruction caused by Typhoon Noul. Located in Sichuan province, Jiuzhaigou is one of China’s most popular tourist destinations, known for its crystal clear blue, green, and purple lakes, snow covered mountains, dense forests, and spectacular waterfalls. Every year, the scenic park attracts millions of visitors from around the world. State broadcaster CCTV reported that several major attractions inside the park had been closed to protect public safety while emergency teams evacuated stranded visitors. Authorities said the operation was carried out in an orderly manner and that tourists were being moved to safe locations. Local officials announced that sections of the Rize Valley above Arrow Bamboo Lake, including the lake itself, along with the entire Zechawa Valley, would remain closed until conditions improve. They said the restrictions were necessary because of the high risk of additional mudslides and unstable ground caused by continuous rainfall. The closures followed the impact of Typhoon Noul, the strongest storm to strike China this year. The typhoon brought torrential rain across southern and central regions, increasing the danger of flooding and landslides in several provinces. China’s Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued a red alert for flash floods covering parts of Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan, Shaanxi, Gansu, and southeastern Xinjiang. A red warning is the country’s highest emergency level and indicates an extremely high risk of severe flooding. Mountainous areas across China are especially vulnerable during the summer rainy season. Steep slopes, river valleys, and saturated soil often combine to trigger landslides and mudslides after prolonged rainfall. This month’s severe weather has already caused a series of deadly disasters in different parts of the country. In Chongqing, a major landslide triggered by heavy rain killed at least 11 people, while around 50 others remain missing as rescue teams continue search operations. In Gansu province, another landslide in Tanchang county claimed at least 21 lives. Separate flash floods struck a scenic camping area in Weiyuan county, killing 10 tourists and injuring 23 others. In another incident, five people lost their lives after a house was buried beneath collapsing loess soil in Shanxi province. Emergency workers have been responding to multiple disasters as extreme weather continues to affect large parts of the country. China has now entered its annual peak flood control period, which runs from the middle of July to the middle of August. This is traditionally the time when the country experiences its heaviest rainfall and greatest flood risks. Weather experts have warned that rainfall is expected to become even more frequent and intense in the coming weeks. Forecasts suggest that northern China could receive between 20 and 50 percent more rainfall than average, raising concerns about further flooding, landslides, and disruptions to transportation and tourism. Authorities have urged residents and travelers to closely follow weather updates and avoid areas vulnerable to natural disasters as emergency teams remain on high alert.

Trump warns Oman over Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump has warned Oman that Washington could launch an attack if Muscat interferes with US efforts in the Strait of Hormuz, according to comments he made in an interview with US media. Trump said the United States would take military action if Oman obstructed American operations in the strategically important waterway. His remarks mark another escalation in Washington’s warnings toward Oman, following a similar threat he reportedly made in May. The US president also said his administration had established a direct, behind-the-scenes communication channel with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). He did not provide further details about the nature or purpose of those contacts. Trump also sought to underline the scale of America’s military capabilities, saying the United States still has extensive weapons stockpiles. He claimed that the amount of weaponry the US has used so far represents only a small fraction of its available reserves. “We have a lot of weapons left,” Trump said, while indicating that Washington still possesses large quantities of medium-range weapons. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global energy route, making any potential military confrontation in the area a major concern for international markets and regional security. Any disruption to shipping through the strait could affect global oil supplies and trigger wider economic and geopolitical repercussions.

Known for her elegant screen presence and natural beauty, the award-winning star surprised fans by embracing a bold, gothic-inspired look that marked a sharp departure from her recent television appearance. Sajal, who is currently earning praise for her performance as Rabiya in the drama Zanjeerain, transformed her image for the latest editorial shoot by wearing a long black wig, dark-toned makeup and all-black designer outfits. The high-fashion concept presented the actor in a mysterious and unconventional style rarely seen by her fans. The photos quickly went viral, attracting thousands of reactions on social media. While many fashion enthusiasts applauded Sajal for experimenting with a new aesthetic and praised her confidence in carrying such a challenging look, others expressed surprise and preferred her more natural on-screen appearance. Several users admired the actor’s willingness to step outside her comfort zone, describing the photoshoot as artistic, stylish and visually striking. Supporters said the concept showcased her versatility as a model and performer, proving she can adapt to different fashion trends with ease. However, not everyone was convinced by the transformation. Some social media users compared her appearance to fictional gothic characters, while others questioned the styling, saying they preferred the softer and more traditional look she has become known for in television dramas. A few comments also criticised the makeup and styling, arguing that it did not complement her usual appearance. Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of Sri Lanka Tests

NEW DELHI: India have been dealt a significant setback ahead of their two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out with a knee injury, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Monday. Bumrah, widely regarded as India’s pace spearhead, has not fully recovered from the left knee injury he sustained during the One-Day International series against England last month. In a statement, the BCCI said the 32-year-old remains unavailable for selection as he continues his rehabilitation. Bumrah has not bowled competitively since the second ODI against England in Cardiff on July 16, where he suffered the injury.   His absence is a major setback for India, particularly with the challenging conditions expected in Sri Lanka, where Bumrah’s experience and ability to strike with the new ball have often made the difference in Test matches.   Replacing him in the 15-member squad is promising fast bowler Aquib Nabi, who receives his maiden senior international call-up after an impressive run in domestic cricket. The 29-year-old pacer from Jammu and Kashmir has emerged as one of India’s brightest bowling prospects, claiming 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. He also impressed during India A’s recent tour of Sri Lanka, taking six wickets in two first-class matches, performances that earned him a place in the senior squad. India, led by Shubman Gill, will play a warm-up match before the opening Test begins in Galle on August 15. The second and final Test is scheduled to be played in Colombo from August 23 to 27. The series now presents a golden opportunity for Nabi to showcase his talent on the international stage, while India will hope their emerging pace attack can compensate for the absence of one of the world’s premier fast bowlers. With Bumrah sidelined and a new face joining the squad, all eyes will be on India’s bowling unit as the visitors aim to begin their Sri Lanka campaign on a winning note. India squad Shubman Gill (capt), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sai Sudharsan*, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, Auqib Nabi.
