The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Dera Ghazi Khan has announced the position holders for the annual matriculation examinations. Chairman Professor Dr. Abdul Raouf revealed the names of the top achievers, extending congratulations to the position holders and their parents.

The announcement ceremony was attended by Board Secretary Abdul Rehman Choudhry, Controller of Examinations Professor Muzaffar Hussain, and other officials. The formal declaration of the matriculation annual examination results is scheduled for August 6.

In the overall board-wide ranking, Abdullah Salim from Layyah secured the first position with an impressive 1191 marks. Mir Mujtaba from Taunsa Sharif claimed the second position with 1190 marks, while the third position was shared jointly by Farwa Ahmed from Muzaffargarh, Mirab Zahra from Layyah, and Syed Muhammad Jon Abbas from Layyah, each achieving 1189 marks.

In the Science Group for boys, Abdullah Salim from Layyah topped the board with 1191 marks. The second position went to Mir Mujtaba from Taunsa Sharif with 1190 marks, and Syed Muhammad Jon Abbas Naqvi from Government Model Higher Secondary School Layyah secured the third position with 1189 marks. In the Science Group for girls, Farwa Ahmed from Muzaffargarh and Mirab Zahra from Layyah shared the first position with 1189 marks each.

Ayesha Aamna and Shawaal Ijaz jointly claimed the second position with 1188 marks, while Umaima Abbas from Government Girls High School Layyah and Kashaf Saeed from Taunsa Sharif tied for the third position with 1187 marks each.

In the General Group for boys, Muhammad Safdar from Rajanpur topped the list with 1136 marks, followed by Habib Ahmed from Centre of Excellence (Boys) Rojhan, Rajanpur, who secured 1135 marks. Muhammad Sohail from Layyah took the third position with 1073 marks.

In the General Group for girls, Aiman Farooq from Centre of Excellence Girls Muzaffargarh achieved the first position with 1134 marks, Ajwa Naseer from the same institution secured the second position with 1129 marks, and Suwaira Fida Hussain also from Centre of Excellence Girls Muzaffargarh claimed the third position with 1128 marks.

Overall, female students dominated the position holder list with nine positions, while male students secured six positions. Government institutions accounted for eight of the positions, private institutions claimed five, and two positions went to private candidates.

    Karachi sees drop in robbery, murder cases

    Karachi Police Chief Azad Khan has claimed that incidents of robbery and murder have declined across the city, saying the rate of vehicle and motorcycle snatching has fallen by 25%. Speaking during a visit to the Site Association of Industry office, Azad Khan said the latest results were encouraging. However, he added that the police wanted to achieve further improvements in the city’s security situation. The Karachi police chief said authorities were also taking cases of extortion seriously. He said he was personally monitoring such cases and assured the business community that no leniency would be shown towards extortionists and their associates. Azad Khan said many extortionists were still operating from outside the city. He claimed that police had information about them and their networks. He said their associates were allegedly intimidating citizens and businesspeople. Police would take action against anyone found involved in threatening or extorting residents, he added. The police chief stressed that peace in Karachi had been restored after considerable efforts. He said maintaining the city’s security was now a major responsibility. Azad Khan also linked security with Karachi’s economic stability. He said the city’s economic security was extremely important because a weak economy could lead to higher unemployment and crime. He said Karachi’s business community had an important role in the city’s economy. Ensuring a secure environment for businesses was therefore necessary for continued economic activity and investment. The Karachi police chief also spoke about his personal connection with the city. He said he had grown up in Karachi and felt that the city had a debt that needed to be repaid through public service. He acknowledged that the Sindh Police faced several challenges. However, he said efforts were continuing to improve law and order and provide better services to residents. Azad Khan also highlighted the increasing use of technology in policing. He said authorities had not waited for the completion of the Safe City project to introduce the e-challan system. The police would continue moving forward with technology rather than returning to traditional methods. He said the department was also exploring the use of artificial intelligence-based traffic signals. However, such systems required significant investment. The police chief said the authorities were making every effort to provide better public services. He also announced that a major plan was being prepared to tackle encroachments across Karachi. He said the removal of illegal encroachments would be addressed through a broader strategy. The police leadership’s comments come as Karachi continues to face challenges related to street crime, traffic management, extortion and urban development.

    Lahore: The 5th meeting of the Board of the Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) was held under the chairpersonship of Ms. Hina Pervaiz Butt, where members reviewed the Authority’s performance and approved a series of important policy and administrative measures aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and expanding protection services for women across Punjab. The Board reviewed the implementation status of decisions taken during its previous meeting and expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved. Members emphasized the importance of further strengthening the Authority to ensure accessible, effective and survivor-centred services for women throughout the province. The Board approved the revised organizational structure of PWPA and stressed the need for the early filling of vacant positions to enhance the Authority’s operational efficiency and institutional capacity. The Board also approved the Punjab Women Protection Authority (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulations, 2026, including revised provisions relating to appointments and service matters, to establish a transparent and efficient human resource framework for the Authority. It was further decided that the Punjab Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Department will undertake development initiatives relating to the establishment of new PWPA facilities and infrastructure in coordination with the Authority. Director General Punjab Women Protection Authority, Dr. Lubna Nazir, briefed the Board on the Authority’s recent achievements, including the digitization of case records, implementation of awareness campaigns, progress in service delivery, and the increasing number of registered cases being handled by PWPA. She also informed the Board that the Authority had received more than 3,000 applications for its Internship Programme, reflecting growing public confidence and youth engagement. Dr. Lubna Nazir further informed the Board that the PWPA Helpline has been upgraded to a toll-free service (0800-01737) to make support services more accessible to women across Punjab. During the meeting, Secretary Punjab Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Department, Ms. Sara Omar, emphasized that every woman in Punjab who needs assistance should have access to PWPA’s services. She underlined that achieving this objective requires further strengthening the Authority through enhanced human resources, institutional development, and capacity building so that PWPA can effectively extend its outreach across the province. The Board also appreciated the Authority’s growing collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), acknowledging its role as an important development partner supporting institutional strengthening and capacity-building initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Hina Pervaiz Butt reaffirmed PWPA’s commitment to working in close coordination with all relevant government departments and partner organizations to further strengthen Punjab’s women protection system. She stated that under the leadership and special focus of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Government of Punjab is committed to building strong and responsive institutions that provide timely protection, legal assistance, rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and other essential services to women across the province. The Chairperson thanked all Board members for their valuable input and reiterated the Authority’s resolve to implement the Board’s decisions effectively to further strengthen the protection framework for women in Punjab.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally requested China to speed up the refinancing of a $1.3 billion commercial loan as Islamabad seeks to strengthen its foreign exchange reserves and ease pressure on its external financing position. According to sources, Pakistani authorities are currently holding discussions with their Chinese counterparts to complete the refinancing process at the earliest. The two sides are working to finalize the required terms, conditions, and procedural requirements. Officials expect the refinancing arrangements to conclude soon, with the funds likely to reach Pakistan within the current month if the remaining formalities are completed on schedule. Sources within the Ministry of Finance said the government expects the timely arrival of the funds to provide much-needed support to the country’s foreign exchange reserves. The refinancing would also help Pakistan manage its external debt obligations without placing additional pressure on its existing reserve position. Pakistan made external payments of around $2.2 billion in July, including the repayment of approximately $1.3 billion in Chinese commercial financing. The government now seeks to refinance the repaid amount to maintain liquidity and strengthen its financial position. The move comes as Pakistan continues to manage its external financing requirements and maintain adequate foreign exchange reserves to meet upcoming debt repayments and other international payment obligations. The successful completion of the refinancing deal with China would offer temporary relief to the country’s external account and support overall financial stability.

    Karachi murder case: husband and wife arrested in …

    Police have arrested a husband and wife in Punjab’s Layyah district in connection with a Karachi murder case involving the killing and burning of a man’s body. According to police, the Keamari Investigation Police arrested the alleged main suspects during an operation in Layyah. The case relates to the murder of Faizan alias Faizi in the Mochko area of Karachi in April. Police said the victim was allegedly killed and his body was set on fire. The remains were completely burned and were later identified as those of Faizan. A case had initially been registered against unidentified suspects at the Mochko police station. A special investigation team was formed to investigate the incident. Using technical investigation methods, police had previously arrested two suspects identified as Akram, the victim’s father-in-law, and his son, Ataullah. Police said the alleged main suspects, identified as security institution employee Joon Abbas and his wife, Samreen, had fled and remained in hiding following the incident. The investigation team reportedly traced the couple through technical means and arrested them in Layyah. Further investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the murder and the alleged burning of the body.

    SWAT : Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday visited Swat where he inquired after the victims injured in the recent suicide blast at Saidu Sharif Hospital, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism and provide the best possible medical care to the wounded. During his visit to the hospital, the Governor met the injured, prayed for their early recovery and expressed solidarity with the affected families. Commissioner Malakand Masood Ahmad, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Fida Hassan Shah, senior officials of the district administration, police and other relevant departments accompanied the governor. Governor Kundi reviewed the medical facilities being provided to the injured and directed the hospital administration to ensure the best possible treatment for all victims. He said the pain and suffering of those injured in the “cowardly terrorist attack” was shared by the entire province and the nation, adding that the government stood firmly with the affected families and would always remember the sacrifices of the martyrs and the injured in the fight against terrorism. Later, the Governor visited the office of the RPO Malakand where he was briefed on the overall law and order situation in Malakand Division, ongoing counter-terrorism measures, police preparedness, security challenges and the strategy to combat terrorism. He also offered prayers for the departed souls of the martyrs and patience for their bereaved families. Talking to media, Governor Kundi paid tribute to the police and security forces for their bravery and steadfastness in combating terrorism over the years. He said the country had yet to fully equip the police with modern weapons and the resources required to effectively tackle the menace, stressing that the federation, provinces and all political forces must demonstrate complete unity against terrorism. The Governor alleged that terrorists were receiving support and facilitation from across the border and reiterated that Afghan territory should not be allowed to be used against Pakistan. He further alleged that India and Israel were attempting to exploit Afghan soil against Pakistan and said the issue had been raised at international forums. Governor Kundi said attacks on mosques, educational institutions and public places were completely against the teachings of Islam, adding that there would be no negotiations with terrorists and the state would confront them with full force. He said Pakistan had successfully foiled India’s attempts to portray it as a terrorist state through effective diplomacy and added that the country’s constructive role in easing tensions between Iran and the United States had earned international recognition, reinforcing its image as a peace-loving country committed to regional peace and stability.
