AJK reserved seats election: Polling set for Augus…

The AJK reserved seats election will be held on August 24, with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission announcing the schedule for polling in the Legislative Assembly.

According to the notification, voting will take place at the AJK Assembly from 10am to 1pm. The reserved seats include five for women, one for Ulema-e-Deen or Mashaikh, one for Jammu and Kashmir state subjects living abroad, and one for technocrats and other professionals.

Candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers on August 20 between 9am and 2pm. The returning officer will subsequently scrutinise the papers and publish the list of valid candidates.

Appeals against decisions on nomination papers can be filed on August 21. The Chief Election Commissioner will hear the appeals on August 22, while candidates can withdraw their nominations before 2pm on August 23.

The AJK Assembly has 53 members, including 45 directly elected members and eight members elected through reserved seats.

However, polling on seven directly elected seats could not take place because of law and order concerns. As a result, the reserved-seat election will initially be conducted by the 38 directly elected members elected so far.

The development comes as AJK’s three-phase electoral process continues amid political and security challenges.

Fitness coach Tejas Lalwani and nutritionist Alkesh Sharotri have reportedly designed a rigorous programme to help the actor build size and strength while maintaining overall fitness. His workout routine is expected to revolve around compound exercises, including squats, deadlifts, bench presses and pull-ups, with the intensity gradually increasing over the training period. Alongside the workouts, Kaushal is reportedly expected to consume an additional 250 to 500 calories daily, following a protein-rich diet that includes nuts, dairy products and whole grains to support healthy muscle gain. Recovery is also expected to play a crucial role in the transformation. According to the report, Kaushal will follow a strict recovery schedule that includes eight hours of sleep every night and 48-hour rest periods for each muscle group to minimise fatigue and maximise muscle growth during the demanding preparation. Mahavatar reunites Kaushal with Tejas Lalwani after their successful collaboration on Chhaava, a performance that earned widespread praise for the actor’s commitment to physically embodying the Maratha ruler.     ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face another increase in power tariffs as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) considers a quarterly adjustment that could raise electricity prices by Rs1.34 per unit each month for three months. NEPRA has reserved its decision on a request submitted by power distribution companies seeking to recover around Rs34 billion from consumers under the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism. According to sources, the proposed adjustment could increase the electricity tariff by Rs1.34 per unit for each of the next three months. If approved, consumers would see the additional charge reflected in their monthly electricity bills during the applicable period. The distribution companies have sought the adjustment to recover costs incurred during the relevant quarter. NEPRA reviewed the request and heard the stakeholders’ positions before reserving its decision. Sources said the regulator will conduct a detailed assessment of the claims before issuing its final decision.     Karachi crime remains high in July

    The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released its latest crime statistics for Karachi, showing a significant number of killings, extortion cases, mobile-phone thefts and vehicle-related crimes during July. The figures indicate that vehicle owners continued to face the threat of both theft and armed or forced snatching. Motorcycles accounted for the largest share of vehicle-related crime. The CPLC recorded 2,648 motorcycle thefts during July, while criminals snatched 492 motorcycles from citizens. The latest figures reflect the scale of crime reported across Karachi during the month, with motorcycles, mobile phones and vehicles remaining frequent targets. The data also highlights continued concerns over public safety, particularly in relation to street crime and property offences. The CPLC regularly compiles crime data from across the city to provide an overview of reported criminal activity. Raja also admitted that PTI had faced what he described as a “planned campaign” to weaken the party during this period. According to him, efforts were made from within the party to create problems, but senior leaders remained united and resisted those attempts. “I am grateful to Imran Khan’s senior colleagues who stood firm against these failed attempts,” he said. The PTI secretary general also claimed that another challenge comes from social media, where he said three different groups are active against the party’s interests. He added that every PTI worker wants Imran Khan to be released as soon as possible, but said the party must adopt practical and successful methods instead of relying on slogans alone.
