Two labourers killed, Three injured in Quetta road…

A Quetta IED blast killed two labourers and injured three others in the Wali Tangi area of Quetta district on Sunday, according to police officials.

Police said unidentified attackers planted an improvised explosive device (IED) along the roadside and detonated it remotely when a pickup carrying a contractor and four labourers passed through the area. The incident occurred around 30 kilometres from Quetta.

The victims were reportedly travelling to Wali Tangi for construction work related to tube wells. The powerful explosion badly damaged their vehicle. All five people were initially injured and transported to Civil Hospital Quetta, where two later succumbed to their injuries.

Police and Frontier Corps personnel quickly reached the blast site, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to identify and arrest those responsible.

In a separate incident in Killi Raisani on the outskirts of Quetta, unidentified armed men shot dead former Afghan army commander Haji Hazrat Ullah, also known as Rorad Achakzai. Police said motorcycle-riding attackers targeted him while he was travelling through the area.

The latest violence comes amid growing security concerns in Balochistan, where recent figures indicate a sharp rise in fatalities.

    The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that water levels in several major rivers across Pakistan could rise sharply from August 2 to 4 as monsoon rains intensify, raising the risk of flooding in various parts of the country. The NDMA urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas and remain alert to changing weather and road conditions. According to the authority’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the Lehri River at Head Gogi has reached high flood levels, while Nullah Palkhu at Wazirabad is experiencing medium-level flooding. The Indus River continues to face low-level flooding at Kalabagh, Chashma, Guddu and Sukkur, while the Nari River is also reporting low-level flooding at Head Nari. The NDMA expects high flows in the Chenab River at Marala, with low to medium flows likely at Khanki and Qadirabad. The Jhelum, Ravi and Kabul rivers, along with their tributaries, may also see rising water levels. The NDMA warned that streams connected to the Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi could experience medium to high flows. Water levels in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers will also depend on water releases from reservoirs in India. The authority has also highlighted the threat of flash floods in hill torrents across Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, as well as seasonal streams in central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. Urban flooding and water accumulation could affect low-lying areas in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Hyderabad, Badin, Thatta and other parts of Sindh. The NDMA advised people not to cross flooded areas on foot or in vehicles and to check weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling. It also asked residents to follow directions from local authorities and stay informed through the official Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application. Meanwhile, the Emergency Response Committee (ERC), formed by the prime minister, held its 10th consecutive daily meeting on Sunday to review the country’s monsoon preparedness and response. The committee directed relevant authorities to maintain maximum preparedness and speed up relief and rehabilitation operations. The meeting also reviewed the forecast of further rainfall in northern and central Pakistan, with isolated showers expected in southeastern Sindh.

    PDMA warns of heavy rain, landslide risk in KP

    PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert forecasting rain across several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 24 to July 27, warning of possible landslides, strong winds and lightning. According to the PDMA, districts including Chitral, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad are at risk of landslides due to the expected rainfall. Authorities have advised residents in mountainous areas to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period. The authority also warned that strong winds and lightning could damage standing crops and weak structures. Farmers have been urged to take precautionary measures to protect their crops, while residents have been advised to secure vulnerable buildings and outdoor installations. PDMA said electricity poles, signboards and solar panels may also be damaged by strong winds. Citizens have been urged to stay away from unstable structures and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electricity infrastructure during thunderstorms. The authority has directed all district administrations to implement precautionary measures in vulnerable areas before the expected weather system arrives. Emergency response teams have also been asked to remain on alert to deal with any weather-related incidents. In addition, district authorities have been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and seasonal waterways to ensure timely action in case of rising water levels or flash flooding. PDMA has advised the public to follow official weather updates, exercise caution during the rainy spell and immediately report any emergency situation to the relevant authorities.

    Gold prices rise further in Pakistan as global rates gain

    ISLAMABAD: Gold prices continued their upward trend in Pakistan on Monday, with the price of one tola increasing by Rs800 in the local market. According to data released by the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, the price of 24-karat gold rose to Rs457,336 per tola, following the latest increase. The price of 10 grams of gold also moved higher, climbing by Rs685 to Rs392,091. The fresh increase in domestic gold prices came as international bullion rates also recorded gains. In the global market, gold was trading at around $4,349 per ounce, up by $8 from the previous level. Market participants continue to closely monitor movements in international bullion prices, exchange rates and investor demand, all of which influence gold prices in Pakistan. Gold remains a popular investment and a traditional store of value in the country, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty and currency fluctuations. Changes in international prices are generally reflected in the local bullion market after adjustments for the rupee-dollar exchange rate and other market factors.

    Punjab launches early anti-smog crackdown

    Punjab has launched a province-wide campaign to curb major sources of air pollution ahead of the winter smog season, targeting brick kilns, industrial units, plastic manufacturers, construction sites and smoke-emitting vehicles. The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA) is focusing on early action to control emissions before pollution levels rise during the colder months. Regional teams will step up inspections, enforce environmental laws and ensure the use of pollution-control equipment across the province. The EPA reviewed its anti-smog preparations at a meeting chaired by Director General Syed Musa Raza. Directors from EPA offices and regional field officers assessed district-level readiness, enforcement targets and monitoring systems. The DG directed field teams to accelerate inspections and take strict action against environmental violations. The agency has also increased monitoring of construction sites, where dust contributes significantly to particulate pollution. Officials inspected fog cannon operations and instructed major construction sites to keep anti-smog equipment running. They also directed teams to activate fog cannons and mist sprinklers in areas where particulate pollution rises and the Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeds permissible limits. Industrial units must keep their emission-control and filtration systems fully operational throughout the pre-smog period. The EPA warned that factories that bypass pollution-control systems could face sealing, prosecution and financial penalties. Special enforcement teams will also check heavy transport vehicles at major city entry and exit points. Officials will conduct emissions tests and take legal action against vehicles that exceed prescribed limits. EPA enforcement figures from January 1 to July 25, 2026, show the scale of the campaign. Teams inspected 45,736 brick kilns across Punjab, demolished 777 illegal structures, sealed 419 units, registered 762 FIRs and imposed fines worth Rs67.76 million. The agency also inspected 27,384 industrial units during the period. Authorities sealed 694 facilities, demolished 272 structures, registered 175 FIRs and imposed fines totaling Rs123 million over environmental violations.

    Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the party’s founder is undergoing treatment at a prison hospital due to high blood pressure or any other medical condition. In a fresh statement, Barrister Gohar said he had personally verified the matter with the relevant authorities. He added that he had also informed the PTI founder’s family about the actual situation after confirming the facts. He urged the media and social media users to avoid spreading unverified information regarding the health of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. He stressed that only confirmed information should be shared to prevent the spread of misinformation. Barrister Gohar said false reports about the health of political leaders create unnecessary confusion and concern among supporters and the public. He appealed to journalists and the public to act responsibly and verify facts before publishing or sharing any news. Reiterating the party’s stance, Barrister Gohar maintained that the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi are being unjustly held in prison. He said the party continues to demand that both be provided proper medical care and be released. The statement comes after speculation on social media claimed that the PTI founder had been shifted to the prison hospital for treatment. Barrister Gohar rejected those claims and insisted that such reports were inaccurate, calling on everyone to rely only on verified information regarding the health and condition of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.
