HARIPUR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has honoured Ammad Ali, founder and Chief Executive Officer of RankingGrow, with the Youth Excellence Award for his contributions to youth development, digital skills training and efforts to create greater opportunities for young people, particularly those living in underserved areas of the province.

The award was presented by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand during a ceremony organised by the Directorate of Youth Affairs to mark International Youth Day.

Ali founded RankingGrow, a digital marketing and IT services company that has been involved in initiatives aimed at equipping young people with practical digital skills and improving their access to professional training and employment opportunities.

Through RankingGrow and other youth-focused initiatives, Ali has supported training programmes, workshops and community-based activities in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These programmes have particularly targeted areas where young people have fewer opportunities to access modern technology, professional education, career guidance and exposure to the digital industry.

The training initiatives have focused on practical and market-oriented skills that can help young people become financially independent and participate in the growing digital economy. Areas covered by these programmes include digital marketing, search engine optimisation, social media marketing, graphic design, video editing, web development, artificial intelligence, freelancing and entrepreneurship.

The programmes aim to bridge the gap between traditional education and the skills increasingly demanded by employers and clients in the digital marketplace. By providing young people with relevant technical and professional skills, the initiatives seek to help participants explore employment opportunities, start freelancing careers or establish their own businesses.

Ali has also received recognition for his work on other occasions. He was previously awarded the Pride of Pakistan Award under the patronage of the President of Pakistan in acknowledgement of his services and contributions. In addition, he has received other recognitions for his efforts in youth empowerment, digital skills development and community-oriented initiatives.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Ali said the recognition would encourage him and his team to expand their efforts to provide young people with skills that are relevant to the changing job market. He expressed his commitment to continuing initiatives that can help young people gain access to professional opportunities and participate more effectively in the digital economy.

Ali emphasised the importance of ensuring that young people from smaller cities and underserved communities are not left behind as digital technology continues to transform the employment landscape. According to him, access to digital skills and professional opportunities should not be limited to young people living in major urban centres.

The Youth Excellence Award also highlights the growing importance of cooperation between government institutions, private-sector organisations and community-led initiatives in addressing challenges related to youth employment, entrepreneurship and skills development.

With Khyber Pakhtunkhwa having a large and growing youth population, initiatives focused on digital education and employable skills can provide young people with alternative pathways to employment and entrepreneurship. The recognition of Ali’s work reflects the contribution of such initiatives towards creating opportunities for young people and strengthening their participation in the province’s economic and social development.

    FO rejects India’s criticism of AJK elections

    Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has strongly rejected India’s criticism of the ongoing Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) legislative elections, saying New Delhi has neither the legal standing nor the moral authority to question the democratic process in the region. Speaking at the weekly media briefing on Thursday, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi dismissed remarks made by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which had described the AJK elections as a “farce.” He termed India’s comments baseless, politically motivated and an attempt to undermine a democratic process being conducted under the constitutional and legal framework of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Andrabi said the elections are taking place in a peaceful, transparent and orderly manner despite security challenges, reflecting the democratic aspirations and political will of the people of AJK. He added that Pakistan remains committed to ensuring a free and fair electoral process in the region. The spokesperson said India’s criticism comes as the seventh anniversary of New Delhi’s August 5, 2019 decision to revoke the special constitutional status of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is being observed. He maintained that those unilateral measures violated international law, relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and India’s own international commitments. He reiterated Pakistan’s position that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognised disputed territory, whose final status should be determined through a UN-supervised plebiscite in accordance with relevant UNSC resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people. Andrabi also accused India of attempting to divert global attention from alleged human rights violations and restrictions on political freedoms in occupied Kashmir. He said references to casualty figures and other claims made by Indian authorities cannot overshadow concerns raised by the international community over the situation in the region. Responding to another question regarding India’s reaction to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s recent remarks on Youm-e-Istehsal, Andrabi described the Indian statement as an effort to justify its policies in occupied Kashmir. He alleged that a heavy military presence, strict security laws and demographic changes continue to affect the Muslim-majority character of the territory. Following the reduction, the retail price of diesel has declined from Rs385.86 to Rs383.86 per litre, providing limited relief to transport operators and commercial users who rely heavily on diesel. According to government sources, the increase in petrol prices is linked to adjustments in the petroleum levy. The government has reportedly increased the petroleum levy on high-speed diesel by Rs1.44 per litre, raising it from Rs70.86 to Rs72.30 per litre. Officials say such adjustments form part of the government’s broader fiscal strategy while maintaining the petroleum pricing framework. The announcement has drawn attention because global crude oil prices have softened in recent weeks, leading many consumers to expect a reduction in domestic fuel prices. However, local retail fuel prices are influenced by several factors in addition to international oil prices, including exchange rate fluctuations, taxes, petroleum levy, transportation costs, and other government-imposed charges. The revised fuel prices are expected to affect transportation expenses, logistics costs, and overall inflation, as petrol remains a key commodity for private motorists and commercial activities across Pakistan. The government had previously announced reduced prices for August 5, lowering petrol by Rs3.39 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs4.07 per litre. However, the latest notification revises those rates, resulting in a fresh increase in petrol prices while providing only a modest reduction in diesel prices.
