    A soft pillow may feel comfortable at first but health experts say it is not always the best option for good sleep. They explain that a pillow should not only feel soft in the store but also provide proper support for your head and neck throughout the night. Physiotherapists say many people choose pillows after trying them for only a few minutes. However the real test comes after several hours of sleep. As your head presses down on the pillow it can lose its shape. If it does not give enough support your neck and spine may become misaligned leading to pain or stiffness in the morning. Allan Fu, a physiotherapist and lecturer at the University of Sydney says many people judge a pillow by how comfortable it feels at first. He believes the most important thing is whether the pillow keeps your head and neck properly supported all night. A short test in a store is not enough to know how well a pillow will perform. Experts say the average human head weighs about 4.5 kilograms which means a pillow is under constant pressure while you sleep. If it is too soft it may not support your head and neck properly. That is why comfort should not be the only thing to consider when buying a pillow. Research suggests that latex and memory foam pillows may help reduce neck pain because they keep their shape better and provide steady support. Feather and synthetic fiber pillows can also be used but experts recommend choosing firmer versions as very soft ones lose their support more quickly. Experts also advise against judging a new pillow after just one night. Feather and synthetic pillows usually settle into their normal shape within a day or two while memory foam pillows may take several weeks to fully adjust to your body. When buying a pillow experts recommend lying on it for a few minutes if possible.  A pillow that feels slightly firmer or a little higher at first may become more comfortable with regular use. They say proper support is more important than softness for keeping your neck healthy.

    China’s Chang’e-7 Moon mission to launch on August 24

    China is preparing to launch a complex, multi-spacecraft mission to the Moon. The mission will land near the Moon’s south pole and search for evidence of water and ice. The mission is scheduled to launch on August 24 from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on China’s Hainan Island. According to a statement issued by the China Manned Space Agency, the Chang’e-7 mission will be launched aboard a Long March 5 rocket. The mission will focus on the Moon’s south pole and attempt to determine whether water and ice are present inside the craters as well as their quantity and other related details. Water vapour has previously been detected in this region of the Moon through remote sensing but scientists have not yet been able to measure it directly or obtain samples. Chang’e-7 will also help lay the technological groundwork for China’s crewed lunar mission planned for 2030. The mission will consist of an orbiter, lander, rover and hopper spacecraft. Five days after launch, the spacecraft is expected to enter lunar orbit. The orbiter will then identify and determine the target landing area. Chinese authorities have not yet announced the exact landing date and the landing is expected to take place several months after launch. The hopper spacecraft will make multiple flights over the permanently dark craters near the Moon’s south pole. It will also be equipped with landing legs to allow it to land and analyze the surface of the selected locations. The mission will also carry scientific payloads from several countries. China’s Chang’e-5 mission in 2020 and Chang’e-6 mission in 2024 successfully collected lunar samples and returned them to Earth.

    Smartphones are now found in almost everyone’s hands but their rise has also rendered many once-popular technologies obsolete. At the beginning of the 21st century, personal computers, home internet and mobile phones became widely accessible. Few could have imagined that, within a few years, all these technologies would merge into a single device that would transform nearly every aspect of daily life. That device is the smartphone. It serves as a flashlight, bank account manager, weather forecaster, fitness tracker, camera and much more. One of the smartphone’s greatest strengths is its ability to combine multiple functions into a single, easy-to-use device. As a result, many older technologies have largely disappeared. Here are ten of them: 1. Landline phones Landline phones were among the first technologies to be replaced by smartphones. Once common in nearly every home, they have become largely unnecessary because smartphones provide calling capabilities along with numerous internet-based communication apps. 2. Digital cameras Between 2008 and 2021, sales of compact digital cameras declined by more than 97 percent. Modern smartphones feature increasingly advanced cameras eliminating the need for many people to purchase separate digital cameras. 3. Calculators Pocket calculators were once essential tools for students and professionals. Today, every smartphone includes a built-in calculator while dedicated apps can solve even complex mathematical problems. 4. Alarm clocks Traditional alarm clocks have become much less common because smartphones include customizable alarm features allowing users to choose sounds, adjust volume and set multiple alarms. They also function as clocks reducing the need for separate timepieces. 5. Walkie-talkies Walkie-talkies were widely used in workplaces for instant communication.     As temperatures continue to rise health experts are warning people to take extra care during hot and humid weather. Extreme heat can affect daily life and also increase the risk of serious health problems if proper precautions are not taken. According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) the body naturally cools itself by sweating. However when the weather is extremely hot or humid this cooling system becomes less effective. This can lead to heat related illnesses such as heat cramps heat swelling (edema) and heat stroke which can be life threatening. Experts say the most important step is to stay hydrated. Dr. Wendell Porter from the University of Florida recommends drinking water regularly throughout the day. When the body does not have enough water it cannot produce enough sweat to cool itself. Taking a cool shower or bath is another effective way to lower body temperature. Placing a cold towel or an ice pack on the neck and wrists can also help cool the body quickly because blood vessels are close to the skin in these areas. Health experts also suggest keeping your home as cool as possible. Open windows early in the morning to let in fresh air then close them and draw curtains or blinds once the sun gets stronger. Use fans to push hot air outside and turn on kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans to remove heat and humidity. At night wear light cotton clothes and use cotton bedsheets because they allow better airflow and help keep you comfortable. If your home has a basement it may be a cooler place to sleep during heatwaves.  Closing the doors of unused rooms can also help keep cool air in the areas you use most. Experts recommend using LED light bulbs instead of traditional bulbs because they produce less heat and use less electricity. While cold treats like ice cream may feel refreshing, foods and drinks high in sugar should be limited because they can make it harder for the body to stay cool. Finally experts advise avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day. Drink plenty of water stay in shaded or cool places whenever possible and follow these simple tips to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

  • How far can you drive after low fuel light comes on?

    If you fail to keep an eye on your fuel level while driving, your car could eventually come to a stop. When a car is about to run out of fuel, a warning indicator commonly known as the low fuel light illuminates on the dashboard. But how far can you actually drive once this light comes on? The answer can be useful if there isn’t a fuel station nearby. However, there is no single answer as it depends on several factors including the car’s make and model, model year, driving habits, fuel efficiency and road conditions. According to experts, once the low fuel warning light turns on, the vehicle cannot travel very far. The good news, however, is that it can usually go farther than many people expect. Experts say the warning light typically comes on when the fuel tank has around 10 to 15 percent of its capacity remaining. On average, small cars can travel about 20 to 30 miles (32–48 km) after the light comes on while larger vehicles may cover up to 50 miles (80 km). However, if the vehicle is old or the road conditions are poor, the remaining driving range may be significantly shorter. Cold weather can also increase fuel consumption reducing the distance the car can travel after the warning light appears. Experts further caution that continuing to drive for an extended period after the low fuel light comes on may damage the engine although driving a few additional miles is generally unlikely to cause any harm.

  • MIT robot can fly and swim

    Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a unique robot that can both fly through the air and swim underwater just like diving birds. The lightweight robot costs around $300 and was designed by MIT’s AeroAquatic Robotics team.  Scientists believe it could one day help monitor oceans study marine life and support environmental protection. The robot was inspired by diving birds which use the same wings to fly in the air and move through water.  While scientists have studied these birds for years building a robot that can perform both tasks efficiently has been a major challenge. To solve this the MIT team carefully studied how diving birds move and used those findings to design the new machine. The robot called the Flapping Aerial Aquatic Vehicle weighs only 250 grams.  It runs on a battery powered motor and has nylon wings and a tail coated with water resistant nanoparticles to protect them from moisture. According to the researchers the robot is programmed to flap its wings at a specific frequency allowing it to move smoothly in both air and water without changing its basic movement. It can fly at speeds of up to 13.4 miles per hour and swim at about 2.2 miles per hour. On a single battery charge it is designed to fly as far as 6 kilometers or swim up to 2 kilometers. The robot was tested for about one year first in a water tank in Massachusetts and later in Lake Geneva Switzerland where researchers evaluated its performance in real world conditions.
