High-profile Indian public figures, including actor Imran Khan, popular singer Arijit Singh, and veteran actress Zeenat Aman, have joined a growing list of celebrities voicing firm support for student-led protests in New Delhi, urging authorities to exercise restraint and engage in constructive dialogue with demonstrators.
​The nationwide movement—triggered by mounting student grievances regarding examination irregularities and proposed education reforms—escalated dramatically following reports of harsh police action against peaceful demonstrators gathering at New Delhi’s iconic Jantar Mantar protest site.
​Taking to social media platform X to condemn the reported use of force against young marchers, playback sensation Arijit Singh expressed intense outrage over the crackdowns:
​”Now you are beating the students. Aren’t you ashamed? Everything will be remembered.”

​Actor Imran Khan similarly broke his long-standing public silence to issue an impassioned, lengthier statement on Instagram. Recounting his distress over news footage showing authorities using teargas and physical force against student marchers, the actor questioned the government’s stance on youth empowerment and accountability:
​”Something broke in me today. Watching as police gassed and battered student protestors… How could I make sense of this? These students worked hard, only to be failed by the system. These people who asked to be heard, only to be met with silence. These citizens who stood up for what matters to them… beaten down and disowned by the establishment. Are these not the children of Mother India? If not them, for whom do we build, and whose future do we claim to protect? Those who demand ‘organization’ from students protesting education reform, but don’t apply such lofty standards of accountability to established authority; bootlickers, one and all. If we don’t listen to those who have the most at stake today, we forfeit all our tomorrows. There is no choice here but one: solidarity with the students.”

​Concurrently, veteran screen icon Zeenat Aman drew public attention to the deteriorating condition of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, whose ongoing hunger strike in the capital entered its third week alongside student gatherings. Aman warned against societal indifference, stressing that neglecting visionary reformers and student leaders threatens the moral fabric of the nation.
​Their statements build upon an expanding solidarity movement within the entertainment industry. Artists including Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shabana Azmi, Pooja Bhatt, Huma Qureshi, and Ali Fazal have all publicly called for an immediate cessation of violence and transparent administrative reforms.     Lahore CTO cracks down on traffic corruption

    Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi has issued a strict warning to traffic wardens against corruption and misuse of authority. Shirazi said no traffic official would be allowed to demand money from citizens or become involved in illegal activities. He warned that anyone found guilty would face strict legal action. The CTO said some traffic officials had been involved in taking money from members of the public. He added that officials accused of such practices were being arrested. Shirazi issued a particularly strong warning against extortion. He said if any traffic official demanded extortion from a citizen, he would ensure that a terrorism case was registered against the official. The traffic chief said he was deeply concerned over cases in which traffic personnel had faced extortion charges. He described such incidents as a source of embarrassment for the traffic department. He stressed that traffic wardens were responsible for enforcing traffic laws and facilitating citizens. They must not misuse their positions for personal gain. The CTO directed traffic personnel to perform their duties honestly and professionally. He made it clear that corruption, harassment and illegal demands would not be tolerated. He also warned officials that strict action would be taken against anyone found exploiting their authority. The department would continue monitoring the conduct of traffic personnel, he said. The warning comes as Lahore traffic authorities seek to improve public confidence in traffic enforcement. Officials are also under pressure to ensure that citizens are treated fairly during routine traffic checks and enforcement operations. Shirazi said the traffic department must maintain discipline and transparency. He stressed that officials involved in wrongdoing would be held accountable under the law.

    AJK election first phase concludes, vote counting …

    Polling for the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections concluded on Monday, with vote counting now underway across 13 constituencies in Mirpur Division. The first phase covered three districts — Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber. Polling was initially scheduled to end at 5pm but was extended by one hour. Voting continued until 6pm to provide voters with additional time to cast their ballots. More than 1.4 million registered voters were eligible to participate in the first phase. The Election Commission had established 2,454 polling stations across the three districts. Of these, 597 polling stations were set up across four constituencies in Mirpur district. Kotli had 1,107 polling stations across six constituencies, while 608 polling stations were established in three constituencies of Bhimber. A total of 296 candidates, including nominees from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and independent candidates, contested the 13 seats. Polling disrupted at some stations Although polling remained largely peaceful, some polling stations reported disruptions. In Kotli’s Aghaar Colony, voting continued at Polling Station 38. However, polling could not begin at Stations 36 and 37 because voters did not arrive. PPP AJK Election Cell in-charge Sardar Abdul Shakoor claimed that disturbances occurred at polling stations 119, 120 and 121 in LA-5 Barnala. He said polling was affected for some time. According to Shakoor, voting resumed after security forces reached the area. However, he said the polling process remained slow. The PPP also established a central election monitoring cell in Islamabad. Senior party leaders, including Sherry Rehman, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Shazia Marri, Sharjeel Memon and Saeed Ghani, monitored developments and remained in contact with election officials, district administrations and party candidates. Former National Assembly speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf expressed concern over alleged irregularities at different polling stations. He called for additional security personnel at sensitive locations, including Gulpur, Thurochi and Muhajir Camp. He urged the Election Commission to immediately and impartially investigate all complaints and ensure free, fair and transparent elections. Political leaders urge voters to participate PML-N candidate Chaudhry Tariq Farooq cast his vote at Polling Station 161 in Bhimber’s LA-7 constituency. Speaking after voting, Farooq said voter turnout was expected to be higher in rural areas than in cities. He also expressed confidence in the security and election arrangements in Bhimber. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accompanied by his sister Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, appealed to voters in Mirpur to participate in the elections. In a video message, Bilawal urged people to leave their homes and exercise their right to vote if they wanted Kashmir’s future to be decided by its people. He also asked voters to support PPP candidates. PPP Karachi Division President Saeed Ghani described the election as a contest between the genuine issues of Kashmiris and what he called false promises. Ghani said Kashmiris needed political rights, ownership rights and employment opportunities. He criticised the focus on providing a limited number of buses, saying development should address wider public needs. PPP leader Nadeem Afzal Chan also raised concerns about alleged federal interference and the use of government resources during the elections. He demanded that the polls remain free, fair and transparent. He also called on the federal government to avoid any involvement that could influence the electoral process. PPP spokesperson Shazia Marri said the people of Kashmir would deliver their verdict through their votes. She said the party’s election symbol, the arrow, represented hope for the people of Mirpur. Police praise peaceful polling AJK police said the first phase of polling remained peaceful across Mirpur Division. A spokesperson for the AJK police chief said voters had rejected calls for unrest and instead chose to exercise their democratic right. Voters began arriving at polling stations soon after voting opened at 8am. AJK Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali Malik thanked residents for cooperating with law enforcement agencies and helping maintain peace during the election. He warned that no individual, including political workers, would be allowed to take the law into their own hands. Mirpur Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz and DIG Kamran Ali also visited Ward 16/17 in LA-3 to review the polling arrangements. The commissioner said polling had remained peaceful across Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber. He urged voters to come out without fear and assured them that the administration had made arrangements for a secure environment. Security arrangements strengthened Authorities made extensive security arrangements for the elections. AJK Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the voting process. AJK Chief Secretary Khushal Khan said state institutions were fully prepared to maintain peace during the elections. He said the people had rejected attempts to create disorder and demonstrated confidence in the democratic process.

    Stephen Baldwin has opened up about one of the biggest decisions of his career, revealing why he stepped away from mainstream Hollywood despite enjoying major success in the 1990s. The actor said he deliberately chose a different path from fellow movie star Tom Cruise, explaining that fame and blockbuster success were never his ultimate goals.  Baldwin, now 60, reflected on his career in a recent interview with People, looking back at the period following his acclaimed performance in the Oscar-winning film The Usual Suspects. At the time, many believed he was on track to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Instead, Baldwin said he decided to walk away from that path after experiencing a profound change in his personal life.  “I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise and have to make $100 million at the box office,” Baldwin said, adding that he preferred living a simpler life over chasing blockbuster success. He stressed that the comment was not intended as criticism of Cruise but as an explanation of his own priorities and ambitions.  According to Baldwin, everything changed in the early 2000s when he became a born-again Christian. His spiritual journey began after a Brazilian housekeeper working for his family shared what he described as a prophetic message, saying he and his wife, Kennya Baldwin, would one day dedicate their lives to ministry. Although skeptical at first, Baldwin said his perspective shifted after attending Christian events with his sister Beth Baldwin.  One event featuring Christian skateboarders particularly inspired him. The experience led him to create Livin It, a faith-based skateboarding video that combined extreme sports with Christian teachings. The project became a success and eventually grew into a nationwide ministry that took Baldwin to more than 125 churches over four years. That, he said, was the moment he realized his future was no longer in mainstream Hollywood.  Since then, Baldwin has focused on producing faith-based content while remaining active through podcasts, speaking engagements and independent projects. He admitted that his outspoken religious beliefs and political views may have made him less appealing to traditional Hollywood studios, but he has no regrets about the direction his life has taken.  The actor also credited his family for keeping him grounded. Married to Kennya Baldwin since 1990, he said his wife has been his “anchor,” while describing his faith as the foundation of everything he does. As the father of Hailey Bieber and grandfather to two young children, Baldwin said family remains his greatest blessing.  Looking back, Baldwin believes choosing purpose over fame was the right decision. While his career could have followed a more conventional Hollywood trajectory, he says he found greater fulfillment by dedicating his life to faith, family and meaningful work. Rather than measuring success by box office numbers, Baldwin now defines it through the impact he can have on others and remains convinced that his best years are still ahead.

    Gold rate slips to Rs426,736 per tola

    Gold prices witnessed a sharp decline across Pakistan on Saturday, providing some relief to buyers after recent fluctuations in the bullion market. The decrease came in line with a fall in international gold prices, according to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association. The association said the price of 24-karat gold per tola dropped by Rs3,700, bringing the new rate to Rs426,736. Similarly, the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold fell by Rs3,202, with the new price fixed at Rs365,857. Jewellers said the domestic gold market remained under pressure due to changes in global bullion prices. They explained that local gold rates are determined by international market trends along with fluctuations in the value of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar. In the international bullion market, the price of gold also registered a noticeable decline. The price per ounce dropped by $37, settling at $4,043. Market analysts said international gold prices continue to fluctuate because of changes in investor sentiment, global economic conditions, inflation expectations and movements in the US dollar. These factors directly influence gold prices in Pakistan.

    High-level flooding hits head Qadirabad in the Chenab River

    Following flooding at Head Marala and Khanki, a high-level flood has also occurred at Head Qadirabad in the Chenab River. According to the Flood Forecasting Division in Lahore, the water inflow at Head Qadirabad has risen to 236,000 cusecs. Meanwhile, Head Balloki on the Ravi River is experiencing moderate flooding as water flow has increased to 73,635 cusecs. Low-level flooding continues at Nowshera along the Kabul River, as well as at Kalabagh and Chashma Barrage on the Indus River. In Balochistan’s Sibi Division, high-level flooding was recorded at Hedgogi in the Lehri River, with water flow reaching 95,913 cusecs. The flood situation escalated after India released a large volume of water towards Pakistan following heavy rainfall in occupied Kashmir. The water release has created a risk of major flooding, prompting authorities to issue a high alert for regions including Sialkot and Wazirabad. In a related incident, rescue officials successfully saved five individuals who became stranded in the Chenab River in Sialkot. The workers were returning from work when their boat broke down mid-transit.
