Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid over the next three days. The weather is likely to stay partly cloudy. Light drizzle is also possible in some parts of the city.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Karachi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 34°C and 36°C during the next three days.

The weather department said most parts of Sindh will experience hot and humid conditions today. However, some areas could receive rainfall.

Tharparkar district may receive light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.

August could bring more rain

A private weather forecasting organisation has also issued a longer-range outlook for August. It said low-pressure systems could develop over the Bay of Bengal during the first 10 days of August.

These weather systems could increase the chances of rain across several parts of Pakistan. Northern areas of the country may experience a strong spell of rainfall.

Sindh and Balochistan could also receive one or two rain spells during the period. Karachi may see rainfall during the first week of August if favourable weather systems develop.

The forecast comes as Pakistan continues to experience monsoon weather. Rainfall in different regions has already affected temperatures and local weather conditions.

However, meteorologists have stressed that the August forecast is based on long-range weather models. Such forecasts can change as new weather data becomes available.

Religious gatherings and processions are also being organised in different parts of the city. Lahore has also been decorated for the occasion, with mosques, homes, roads and government buildings illuminated. Special prayers are being offered for Pakistan’s peace, progress and prosperity. The city’s main procession is scheduled to begin from Railway Station Chowk. In Peshawar, devotees are arranging Naat Khawani and Milad gatherings to pay tribute to the Holy Prophet (PBUH), while Quetta has also been illuminated for the celebrations. The main gathering in Quetta is scheduled to take place at Bacha Khan Chowk. Islamabad is witnessing similar celebrations, with the capital decorated with lights and religious gatherings being organised at mosques. Devotees are expressing their love and reverence for the Holy Prophet (PBUH) through prayers, Naat recitations and processions. The main Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession in Karachi is scheduled to leave Shaheed Masjid in Kharadar at 2:30pm. It will pass through New Memon Mosque before concluding at Gulzar-e-Habib Mosque around Asr prayer time. Processions and religious programmes are also being held in other cities. To facilitate the celebrations, K-Electric has announced that no load-shedding will be carried out across Karachi on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.

    Sir David Attenborough’s 100th year is proving to be just as remarkable as the career that came before it. Attenborough turned 100 on May 8, 2026, reaching the extraordinary milestone after more than seven decades in broadcasting. Attenborough has been nominated for a 2026 Primetime Emmy Award, making him the oldest-ever nominee in the history of the awards. He received the nomination for his work as a narrator, adding another remarkable achievement to an already impressive list of honours.  He has also received his first-ever nomination for the National Television Awards. Attenborough is shortlisted in the TV Presenter category alongside well-known names including Ant and Dec, Claudia Winkleman, Alison Hammond and Stacey Solomon. The winners will be announced at the NTA ceremony at London’s O2 Arena on September 8.  The recognition comes during an especially busy year for the broadcaster. Several projects have been released to celebrate his centenary, including Wild London, Secret Garden and A Gorilla Story. The latter sees Attenborough return to the story of gorillas he first encountered while filming Life on Earth in Rwanda decades ago.  His 100th birthday was also marked with a major celebration at London’s Royal Albert Hall.     Infantino’s FIFA gamble hits major roadblock

    FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to bring private investors into the commercial management of the FIFA World Cup has suffered another major setback after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) formally rejected the plan. In a statement issued on Friday, the AFC announced that it stands alongside the European and North, Central American, and Caribbean football confederations in opposing the proposal. The confederation said the plan lacks the broad international support needed to move forward and warned that it could weaken the unity of global football. The AFC stressed that the FIFA World Cup belongs to the entire football community and should remain a competition shaped collectively by all member associations and confederations. It argued that decisions involving the future of the tournament should only be made after meaningful consultation with all stakeholders. The Asian governing body also criticized FIFA’s decision-making process, saying major proposals were introduced before proper discussions with confederations and member associations. It claimed the approach left many football authorities feeling excluded from an issue of global importance. The latest opposition significantly reduces the chances of the proposal being approved if it is presented for a vote. FIFA has 211 member associations, and a simple majority would be required for the plan to pass. With Europe, Asia, and Concacaf already opposed, the proposal faces strong resistance. Earlier, UEFA warned it could boycott future FIFA World Cups if the proposal moves ahead. Concacaf also rejected the plan, arguing that football’s biggest tournament should not become a commercial investment asset. Despite the growing backlash, FIFA has defended its proposal. The organization insists that it is not selling football but instead seeking new ways to strengthen the financial future of the game. FIFA says the planned reforms would attract investment, increase tournament revenues, and provide larger financial distributions to its member associations in the coming years. However, he emphasized that constitutional requirements must be fulfilled, including securing a two-thirds majority in the relevant provincial assemblies before any proposal could move forward. The PTI chairman also expressed skepticism about Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif completing his full five-year constitutional term, though he did not elaborate on the reasons behind his remarks. The debate over creating new provinces gained momentum after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently argued that Pakistan’s governance system had become ineffective and required major structural reforms, including the establishment of additional administrative units. Naqvi later clarified that his comments reflected concerns about the country’s governance over several decades rather than criticism of the current government. The proposal has drawn mixed political reactions. Murad Ali Shah firmly rejected any suggestion of dividing Sindh, stating that the provincial assembly has repeatedly passed unanimous resolutions opposing such a move. He maintained that any change would require constitutional approval through a two-thirds majority in the concerned assembly. Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah distanced the government from Naqvi’s remarks, describing them as the minister’s personal opinion. Sanaullah noted that establishing new provinces involves complex constitutional, financial and administrative considerations, including representation in parliament and resource distribution.
